Pete Holmes on Capitalism, Waze, and Ketamine
Комедия
Pete Holmes is back on the podcast to talk about his new Netflix special I Am Not For Everyone. He and Adam chat about the nuances of stand up comedy and how playing to specific audiences can hinder one’s voice. The guys also share their love for The Sklar Brothers. Next, Adam presents an idea on how to solve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the guys talk about gentrification. Pete also recalls his experience using ketamine.
Chris shares news stories on MrBeast building 100 wells in Africa, Patrick Dempsey being named Sexiest Man Alive, and an Airbnb squatter finally moving out. Finally, Pete shares his hatred for Waze and the guys talk about how they deal with unfortunate situations beyond their control.

Pete Holmes seemed to improve alot, which is more I can say about SARAH SILVERMAN, especially since her face was everywhere in 2002, her Lousy politics, Piercing-VOICE,Same routine & Men are the problem "complaining", Atleast Pete Holmes is coming up with ideas & taking risks with his New Comedy, Now that he realizes his "Perfect Christian" routine isn't gonna make expand his base, The Apartment Fapping "story" is better than all of his "COLLEGE 🎓 STANDUPS " in the 2010s
Just discovered that I liked Pete Holmes. Thanks Ace. Gonna check out his Netflix spot tonight.

His HBO show "Crashing" is semi autobiographical. It's light, funny, and insightful into Pete's life.
The Ketamine segment reminded me of Dennis Hopper in Apocalypse Now when he was describing the Colonel.😂

i hope every episode will be as genuine, intellectual, and humorous as this one.
I am absolutely convinced Adam is a Psychic. Not a practising one (obviously.) His predictions are ridiculously accurate and he used to get callers on Loveline and just know their fathers first name was the same as theirs etc. Adam is paranormal. His insight to Pete about how his development came from "undoing his past" was so profound, and when Adam said "Now you've got to stop here. Otherwise you'll be too far off the reigns" is so valuable.

That last segment, going over the Waze and Delta stuff, a lot deeper and perspective shifting than I think I ever would've given to a guy who does a bad Batman impersonation for a laugh. Really enjoyable two hours that felt like 20 minutes.

Waze once took us off-road to avoid traffic. It led to a blowout… thanks a lot Waze!
A few random unsolicited thoughts: (1) I don’t seek Pete out, but I always like him when he’s around. And his new special is *very* funny (shoutout to his Alexa bit). (2) Chris continues to come into his element and adds a lot of value to the show in its new format. His immediate “Jason is the taller and heavier (Skyler)” was great. (3) The conversation about an objective basis to compare inherently subjective art is very basic and has been thoroughly discussed by more knowledgeable people recently and for hundreds of years. My (slight) complaint isn’t quite that it’s basic though; it’s that it’s contemplative in nature rather than funny, but its lack of contemplative value just doesn’t outweigh the lack of funny. (4) Many of us have read the books, seen the Man Show, and heard the Gavin Newsome interview. It can get a bit stale to keep circling back. (5) Otherwise a great ep, and props to Adam on the ever expanding vocabulary / the seamless throw in of tutelage and azure (although grammatically, fewer* people) (6) Tonight my KZread algorithm / insomnia led me to a video of a crocodile eating the face off a live zebra. I can’t say I recommend it, but I don’t think I’ll ever forget it.

"Capitalism" is Marx's word. It has become synonymous with state run corporatism. Adam Smith never talked about "capitalism" but free enterprise and free markets.
@mightisright
7 ай бұрын
I thought state-run corporatism would be like Mussolini's Italy (fascism). Marx's idea of capitalism is more like corporation-run government, where the state is subordinate to private, unaccountable big business. I'm not sure because whenever I read Marx I have to drop the book and throw up because it's so disgusting.
@S.J.L

@@mightisright Your right in theory but in practice it's either "state run corporatism" or corporatist run statism and there isn't much difference. Whatever we have isn't free, we have Central bank monopolies, 20% inflation in the last five years and we work at least three months of the year just to pay off the regime. Nothing free about it but the constitution does still give us some chance.
