The moment when his bass kicks in on Mystery Achievement is about as good as it gets. Had managed to forget until reencountering it on The Deuce and it just leapt out the speakers.

Pete Farndon met Chrissy Hynde and put the band together. Pete knew James Honeyman-Scott and Martin Chambers from their hometown of Hereford and introduced them to Hynde. He was therefore a founding member of The Pretenders, along with Chrissy Hynde. The other 2 joined because of Pete.

Yes that’s what I have also read. Also, he was in Australia while a member of the Bushwhackers.

Read Hyndes book. She described the 2nd albums cover photo had to be airbrushed heavily to disguise Farndons greenish heroin related tinted skin hues.

He treated the bass as much a percussion instrument as a string instrument. Their sound really depended on that.

He attended his mate's funeral, James Honeyman-Scott and didn't sit with Hynde. She turned around and looked at him with that look like "you're next", as in to OD and die. She was right he did pass away. She knew him being a junkie would take his life. It got him kicked out of the band and it took his life. I remember when both them died. I was a big fan of theirs then and now. I was a teen when this happened. I read about Scott's passing in a small article in the LA Times Calendar section. It was a tiny article if you can call it that. It was one paragraph. I showed my school mate who didn't believe me Scott died. The Pretenders were great. Still are in different lineups. He was an amazing bass player. He is one of my top fave bassist.

According to Chrissie it was actually Pete who shot Chrissie and Martin a bad look as they'd fired him for doing drugs but James had died of an intolerance to cocaine.

@@nonnayoubuzinnes1669 Thanks for the correction. I read about this in the British music magazine Q 30 years ago when I was at the Virgin Record store in Hollywood. It's been so long so I forgot the details and mixed up the story but what you say gives me memories of the story and yes now I recall it was Pete who gave them bad looks, not the other way around.

I wonder what happened to Pete's wife? I seem to remember Martin saying she also died but she isn't buried with him and she had an acting career?
