    Imagine being in the middle of nowhere and your motorcycle ran out of gas, you then breathed a sigh of relief as you remember motorcycles have a reserve switch, you reach over to dial it to reserve only to realize it was already on reserve.

    My Vespa ET4 has a vacuum fuel valve. If I am correct it uses a vacuum pressure to drive the fuel instead of turning the valve on the petcock. Petcock and fuel valve are the same thing? Well, the fuel has been leaking after starting the bike. I looked carefully and see its leaking from the hose that sits to the side of the fuel valve versus the one towards the bottom. I suspect it's the carburetor line? It has a small crack near the clamp. The clamp was easy to loosen but the tube isn't easily removed. I am searching for advice before yanking off the tube. I could snip off a piece with the crack and it will likely fit, stop the leak long enough to drive it to the mechanics for further inspection. Thanks for your video.

    When dealing with fuel it's called an engine . When dealing with electricity it's called a motor . You should have went into vacume petcock as well as most scooters and mopeds today most likely use them . If you have a bike with a vacume petcock. If you know the whole fuel system is sound including your petcock , the line may be air bound . To fix the issue with your bike not starting simply take off the vacume line from the carb , put it in your mouth and gently suck . You will see the fuel filter fill with fuel . Once it has , crimp the line near the end , take it out of your mouth and hook it to the carb while the line is still crimped , then release . You should be fine as long as you keep the line crimped not letting any air at all back into the line . you now have the vacume you need to start your bike . Hope this helps someone out there .Happy riding .👍

  • @TomosAmerica

    @TomosAmerica

    Sounds like you have a vacuum line petcock. As the engine turns over, a little vacuum line helps pump out gas into the carburetor. This should be the case in the ON or RESERVE position. In these positions The gas will only flow if the engine is turning over... so they are as good as OFF if the engine is not. The exception here is PRIME, which will let gas flow without any help from the vacuum pump (helping to prime the carb, or fill it up with gas). Hope this helps!

    If you dont turn it off, you wont flood your engine, because the carb automatically shuts off the flow. At least on carburetor bikes anyway
