I saw the Pet Shop Boys in Belfast last night, and as West End Girls was one of the first ever singles I bought in 1985, I thought it would be the emotional song, but Always On My Mind Got Me. Because of the scene in this movie. I grew up near where the character Adam did, a similar age so the much of the film resonated for me deeply. Easily one of the best films I've seen in many years, and the Always On My Mind scene is amazing. Adams dad would be (emotionally) like mine was, of his time as many men back then were, but not at all bigoted, just unable to compute certain stuff. And as a straight guy it really helped me with understanding how it mustve been for so many guys growing up in the burbs like Adam did. There MUST have been guys i was at school with going through that, and we just didnt know. A truly beautiful & special film.

I just saw this film yesterday (better late than never.) Personal anecdote - looking up this incredible song to listen to out of sheer coincidence (I was making a Spotify playlist of my favourite cover songs) reminded me to see this film, which caught my attention but passed me by; thankfully I managed to catch a later screening yesterday. Relatively speaking, I cried so much watching this film; the most I've ever done so watching one. The scene featuring this song was one of *several* emotional gut punches it delivered for me. The scene in the diner was when the dam finally broke. What a film, what a film. Loved it so very much. Really trippy, surreal, emotionally devastating, and just beautifully artful. EDIT: *watches the video* Oh god here come the tears again.

Purgatory! He died in the fire that burnt the building down. And the other man in his apartment with the flickering light behind him was someone he fancied who also lived in the building and who died in the fire. All the rest are his coming to terms with the trauma he experienced in his lifetime, and a demonstration on how things could have played out.

LOVE Andrew Scott. Great actor and nice man. Can the next movie please have a happy, romantic ending? There are so many gay movies that end in death with a miserable ending. I find myself afraid to start a gay movie, because so often they will kill off one of the leads by the end so it basically become like gay snuff films. Suicide, AIDS, beaten to death. Many of us are just happy people. More happiness please.

I'm sure this arthouse movie is very well made and emotional and I love the PSB, but to be frank I'm a little tired of the 'celluloid closet' of tortured souls when in reality we are just as boring and normal and human as anybody else. And as full of laughter and insightfulness as any relationship ..probably more so. with the onus going to the parents ..who handed us the genes, like being black or white or anything in between. MORE than ever before in this world please be good to each other and care for your fellow humans with empathy.
@palmereldritch7777

i don't know if you actually saw the movie, but frankly that IS what the message of this movie is (and states very eloquently). Yes, most of us are boring and mundane and somewhat stupid (as anybody else). But empathy and understanding (which is basically what empathy is) make all the difference. And if you don't understand yourself (fully), you won't understand other people (fully) either.
@jeremiahr7861

Lmfao! This IS NOT an art house film. In the slightest. It clearly had a fully formed narrative and story with character development throughout, on top of gorgeous cinematography. Again, this is not an art house film. It’s a moving love story that explores the themes of family, loss, trauma, and one characters journey through grief. Don’t come in here and mislabel a film that you haven’t even watched.

I'm the same. I can't remember crying this much at a film. I could barely breathe, it's amazing filmmaking that it affected so many people on such a deep emotional level.
Matches so well!
Just watched this movie and this is outstanding. Paul has a great butt. This was better than Red White and Royal blue. THIS a must-see movie guys,

Acabo de verla y quedé tan afligido. Que linda película pero tan triste a la vez. Gracias por el gran trabajo especialmente a Andrew y Paul
its not only a touch of gay film, but it also shows the love and strong bonds of family, it should have been "ideally", Nice film, i watched it last night. sad and more sadness at the last part. Good that I have seen it, I must say one of unforgettable film.

Girls often find and marry someone like their father. Gay guys often find someone that reminds them of their father. Brilliant movie. Watch Adam nestled between his mother and father in bed and he turns and finds his, Harry.

You will never convince me Mescal is not a bisexual. His performance was so perfect as a gay man. The little things mattered. A smile after a deep kiss. Incredible.
@jena.alexia

Or maybe he's just a great actor. Straight actors play gay roles all the time, and vice versa. It doesn't matter if he is bi but I don't think so.
Purgatory! He died in the fire that burnt the building down. And the other man in his apartment with the flickering light behind him was someone he fancied who also lived in the building and who died in the fire. All the rest are his coming to terms with the trauma he experienced in his lifetime, and a demonstration on how things could have played out.
Teşekkürler 😢😢😢

LOVE Andrew Scott. Great actor and nice man. Can the next movie please have a happy, romantic ending? There are so many gay movies that end in death with a miserable ending. I find myself afraid to start a gay movie, because so often they will kill off one of the leads by the end so it basically become like gay snuff films. Suicide, AIDS, beaten to death. Many of us are just happy people. More happiness please.

Good move but sad and depressing.. Usually like many gay movies 😅 ps I am gay 😂
MORE than ever before in this world please be good to each other and care for your fellow humans with empathy.

i don't know if you actually saw the movie, but frankly that IS what the message of this movie is (and states very eloquently). Yes, most of us are boring and mundane and somewhat stupid (as anybody else). But empathy and understanding (which is basically what empathy is) make all the difference. And if you don't understand yourself (fully), you won't understand other people (fully) either.

After reading all the comments here about emotional devastation after watching this film, I think I'm going to skip it. I am no-how in the mood for another pointlessly tragic ending gay movie...I've seen way too many...way.too.many.
