Pet Rat Diet - Requested

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Rats are cheap pets to have because their diet is not expensive. I find that it is actually cheaper to feed them fresh food instead of commercial packaged rat food. But that is not why I feed my rats this way. Real food is simply more healthy and natural than anything processed and in a bag.
Most commercial rat food is full of Alfalfa and Dried Corn, both of which are harmful to rats. If you want to feed your rats packaged rat food make sure that this ingredient is not in it. If fresh food is not an option for you, Oxbow Adult Rat food is a good choice.
For more information about pet rats watch my pet rat care video kzread.info/dash/bejne/fINop7B8ZsrMpMo.html
If you want to learn why packaged food is unhealthy you can watch my video about why raw diet is great for dogs. This video is about feeding dogs a raw diet, but you will learn a lot about the dangers of processed food. kzread.info/dash/bejne/pqhpqZaRk7WudMY.html

    I have two females, it depends if you mean their main food or their vegetables and fruits, I give them little cuts, when I give them carrot I cut them in little circles, I give them one grape eat (this isn't everyday it's just occasional) for banana I give them a little bit, I'd say around 2-3 rat hand fulls

    Thank you so much! One of my boys has frequent diahorrea with almost all foods and only recently I realised it was his lab block as its the only constant which contains wheat. After consulting a vet and getting stool we've confirmed he doesn't have IBS but does have a wheat allergy! Wheat is in all commercial rat foods. So thank you for giving me plenty of ideas for alternative foods for him. I have been giving them mostly raw foods (broccoli, kale, nutrient dense lettuces, watermelon, courgette, peas, carrots, celery etc with the odd boiled egg and some grains) but I think I should start giving them more cooked food to help the food break down before he eats it as his stomach seems very sensitive. They all are completely disinterested in fruit for some reason, but it does prevent them getting too much sugar!

And what you say. You are professional, so that is so much better than hearing 14 different random people online talking about their personal ideas. I am SO happy that I found you!!! Question: Is it okay to feed them pumpkin? And will pumpkin need to be cooked or can it be raw? As for bananas, can rats eat the skin/ peel of a banana? Or is that bad for them?

And I have another question- it’s my first time having rats, they are 4 weeks old now and I read a lot about what to give them so now I am really confused because everyone says something different. I read that once a week you need to give your rat a boiled egg, but now you say that it’s bad. I already gave them it. Is it bad? Should I don’t do that again? Sorry if I said something wrong. • @ronniesucks

    @ronniesucks

    Sorry for being so late! Rats don’t really have a “how many times a day” in the subject of food. (wow that was a weird sentence) The only rule is, that they should always have exassible food. I feed my rats twice a day but I feed them quite alot of food, so there’s always some. Anyways, sorry again for being so late (and also for the super late answer) I don’t even know if you need this anymore... Have a nice day!

    My boys go crazy over quinoa. They also love water melon, cucumbers, Romaine lettuce, cooked cream of wheat with a tiny bit of raw honey, yogurt, cooked mashed sweet potato with almond milk to keep it from getting too sticky, they also love dog treats that I either make, or healthy grain free dog treats that have veggies and fruit instead of meat, and are not processed. Loved your video and all the foods you mentioned, my boys get and love. Eggs...I scramble them as I am scared to death of choking on the yolks.

    Thank you so much for this very helpful video. I was wondering on serving size for a single rat what the plates should look like? I will be getting two, but i'd like to see a single so I know for sure i'm doing the individual servings correctly. I'll be getting them in a month. So i'm researching as much as I can before they get here. Also any suggestions on bringing them up with cats? Getting them used to each other etc? I'm not going to leave them alone together. Or let them wander in the same room. But I do want them to get along. But i'm too scared to even get them close to each other even with the rat in hand.

    Can U recommend an over general diet units of each type of food? Such as, for example: 3 parts leafy greens, 3 parts grains and cooked corn, 1-2 parts peas and beans, 1 part animal protein and occasional dairy, 2 parts fruit or non-leaf veg... and things like appropriate levels to keep starchy foods like apples and potatoes at? Just trying to get a basic idea of overall proportions to aim for say over a few days to a week. Thank U! 🍑 Wonderful vid!

    Can U make a video describing how U pick foods for a meal? Each picture had a nice mix, but I saw kale twice, and otherwise it was hard to figure out the rules behind the plates. Certain amount of fruit per meal or week? Proten balance per meal? Certain amount of protein from plants vs animal sources? How much human grains? I guess, is there a formula per meal, per day per week? I hope I asked my question clearly, sorry, that was a bit difficult to find wording for. Thank U for sharing Ur beautiful pet diet! :)

    When you say cooked, do you mean like heated through or boiled or something else? I know not like, fresh from the garden raw, but like, your mixed veggies, were they canned to dish, or frozen an thawed, or canned and cooked in some Way? And if canned or frozen, was it an organic tye or no? Sorry for all the questions.

    My rats are around 5-6 months old and ive been feeding them fresh food for around 1month and they love it. I give then some romaine lettuce in every serving rassbaries strawberries carrots blueberries and sometimes corn. They love it and I haven't seen signs of diarrhea in a long time. They love it. All though sonetimes I do have to give them food from a bag. But thats only if I don't have enough lettuce or all the other foods I feed them I also do that for some protein which I cannot always provide them.
