There's a video of a guy handling one, it tucks itself into the folds of his hands to feel secure. He explains that it won't bite unless it feels pressure, like if it thinks it's gonna get squashed. It's intense lol

It generally terrifies me that the only thing keeping a venomous spider from escaping are a few small magnets that could pop off if the enclosure were to fall or topple

i mean even if she "escaped" shed just build a net somewhere and chill. black widows are chill and usually dont leave their nets. thats also why even if this stayed open she would probably not leave as long as there is food

No where close to being a killer. It's like a bad bee sting. Maybe for babies, old folks, those with compromised immune systems it could be bad but that's it

They get pretty big imo. The majority of BWs I encounter in Central WA have booty's roughly the size of my thumb 👍🏻

This girl looks like an adult already, so she won't gain much size anymore. "big" is relative. She's much much larger than her own husband, she's much much smaller than many other spiders

😂 I live in Australia, and Redbacks are everywhere! I just have to go look under the wheelie bin to find a few 😂

I’ve seen this kind of webbing action with a yellow orb weaver or Garden spider. It took down this huge cockaroach and this spider was about as big as my thumb in body and had at least a 1(1/2)-2 inch leg span.

I'll say right off that I don't have enough information, but does your pet black widow have a large enough enclosure? Does she have enough enrichment? Do spiders need enrichment? Or room? I'm now going to hit Google to find out, but I wouldn't mind finding out the information from an expert. Thanks.

Black widows live everywhere. I actually found her right outside my house. They are not as deadly or scary as people make them out to be.

​@@Molinaro_Snake_Lab I'd be far more worried about brown recluses, as those will bite over and over, cause severe bites, my mom had one on her leg, she said when she went to the ER someone else was in there at the same time for a brown recluse bite on their head.

@krystami5789 Recluses are also "relatively harmless" all things considered. Their venom isn't that potent. It's only the complications that can happen from a bite that are a huge problem. Most recluses don't cause much damage. You'll get a weird looking rash for a while, but that's it. Obviously don't try this at home. But there are people on here who tried being bitten. You can look it up easily

Slightly unrelated but i really want a dead black widow as a necklace we have a lot of them here and i found a dead one once and tryed to turn it into a necklace but it molded if i find another dead one is there anything i can do to not make it mold and maybe have it in a specific shape. Im a little mad at my slef bc the one i found was a female witch ive never found on of them untill then i had only ever seen the males and there much smaller and not as pretty as there mark is smaller different shaped and not as vibrant

Knowledge and contact. Once you know how predictable these little things are and how unlikely it is that they'll bite, you'll tolerate them much better. Respect is always a positive thing though. Widows are no joke and will make you feel pretty bad for a weekend when bitten

Death is basically impossible if you're not a baby, old and weak or have allergies. The venom is nothing to sneeze at, but the flu can be worse

I used to keep a black widow as a pet at Boarding school in Virginia, in the late 80s. She was very chill. We also would ring fight Praying Mantis' on Saturday night as a dorm wide distraction. HS school kids suk 😂

If you get any pet you should be prepared to care for it yourself. Especially if your parents aren't willing to help. It would be best to wait until you get your own place or hire a pet sitter that experienced with snakes which is very expensive.

Spiders are happy with food every couple of weeks. A mealworm will keep her happy for about a month. The size of their "butt" will tell you how hungry they are. I've had a tarantula that refused to eat for 13 MONTHS and it's still running around totally happy

Even false widow’s do this, they live all over my house and I throw them bugs all the time!
