I lived in Brisbane in my teens and twenties and Sydney 30's - 62. Moved to Perth to retire this year and of the 3 I think Perth is the most livable city, I'm very pleased with my decision to move here.

I'm in Perth, just holidayed in Brisbane Nov 22. Perth has a small homeless problem in the CBD (small compared to Melbourne) with no apparent pushback by authorities to contain /help or move them on. Brisbane has a much more visible police presence in the CBD and the homeless seem to be contained a few streets away from the casino. Just an observation of a few days being a tourist, but Brisbane CBD "feels" safer than Perth CBD, but I've never had any problems in Perth having lived here over 50 years.

As a retiree for a number of years, I moved to Western Australia in 2021 from Canberra (yes did the COVID19 Quarantine etc, etc.etc). along with moving my dog across Australia. I sold my ex house and purchased a 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom home in one of the coastal suburbs of Perth about 55 kms south. Having lived in Perth as a child, I always wanted to move back to Perth as it was the first part of Australia my family experienced having migrated from England. A 10 minute walk to the beach, 45 minute train journey to the City CBD and I am totally living the dream. Brisbane is not for me, floods, cyclones, humidity, yuck yuck yuck. Most of your video confirms and house prices are cheaper, cost of living is not too bad and the lifestyle is relaxed and lots of things to see and do. Lots of people are buying up investment properties or making the move to the West. Isolation is not a problem, like living anywhere you get used to where you live over time. Anyway an interesting video based on your experiences, but Perth is the winner for me.

I would reiterate that. You've done your homework & I'm very impressed. I'm from Brisbane but spent 2 weeks visiting Perth with trips north to Kalbarri & south to Albany. The people in Perth are the most parochial in Australia with a love hate relationship with eastern states. To be fair, Qld use to be exactly like that decades ago. The 2 things I would miss most living in Perth would be mountains (Stirling Ranges are over 400 km away) & rainforests. The Darling 'Ranges' are about 1/3 the height of Mt Cootha. The latter at least offers a nice view of Brisbane. There are numerous national parks near Brisbane with small groves of rainforest. I live on the Gold Coast just south of Brisbane and I travel up to Brisbane fairly often. One thing about Brisbane is how difficult it is to learn your way around when driving, the roads are like a maze and everyone speeds. Take one wrong turn and you can end up in an underground toll road and pop out somewhere on the other side of town or even over the river.

You can earn big money in WA due to mining. Less distance flying to Europe, Singapore, Africa, India, and Perth's favourite holiday spot Bali. It's cheap to fly there. Perth has been having a massive update over the past 5 years. Billions have been spent on improving and new infrastructure. It is a new modern up-dating city. WA is a prosperous state and has the money to improve. The only problem is people are moving to WA faster and services have difficulty keeping up with the volume of newcomers most from Europe and internal migration. Possibly Perth has the cleanest air most days of any modern state in the world. Our worst days are when it is decided to do bush backburning. WA population 2.667 million (Sep 2020). Perth population on 30th June 2022 is 2,225,710. Mil. WA population growth is approx 3% per year.

Brisbane is more expensive compared to Perth’s cheaper housing but that is driven by Queenslands post Covid population growth and popularity. Easy to pop to Sydney in a hour and a half or even Fiji or skiing in NZ in three hours.

I've had my heart set on Perth for a few years. I'm originally from the UK, currently living in Melbourne. I've been to sydney for a visit, but other than that, I haven't been anywhere else in Aus. I like certain aspects of Melbourne, but I hate the weather here. Very cold winters and inconsistent summer, so far. Also, I'm underwhelmed by the beaches surrounding the city. Thank you for your helpful comparison video. Both Brisbane and Perth sound amazing, but I think I have a bit more of a draw towards Perth. Also, I think I like the idea of it being so isolated.

Perth is only "hot" for about 3 months of the year, it has a very mediterranean climate for about 4-5 months and is cold for 4-5 months. Brisbane feels hot for about 6 months of the year. It is easier to cool off in Perth. Perth is much easier to get around in; people spend far less time on a commute - there is also an excellent public transport (buses, trains) system tied in closely to the highway and freeway system. I have lived for many years in both cities. As far as beaches go there is just no comparison and you are only a max of 30 minutes away from a beach anywhere in Perth. House prices are only very high in both cities if you have a desperate need to live near to the CBD's and are very reasonable if you live 30-40 minutes drive away from work. The houses are much "prettier" in Brisbane, but as the lady says, they are far more expensive in Brissy. I think Brisbane is more suited to young couples who don't have children. Perth is extremely child friendly and there's much less stress on family life. The biggest downside to Perth is the feeling that you are two-dimensionally trapped between the hills and the sea. However, you just have to drive a couple of hours either north or south and you are met with the most incredible expanse of Australian nature. Perth is also amazingly close to Asia. 4 hours gets you to Singapore and about 3 hours to Bali. As you can see from some of the comments there is a fair bit of prejudice from eastern state people towards people from Perth. Some of this may originate in WA's attempt to secede from Australia in I think the 1930's (the only reason this did not happen was because the British government just ignored the referendum result). Perhaps as a consequence of this "attitude" I think Perth and WA people have great resilience and independence in how they approach the idea of what it means to be an Australian. I personally couldn't give two stuffs for any of that childish parochialism. WA is about 1/3 of the landmass of Australia (which is the same size as the contiguous USA) with only about 2.5 million people. Let that sink in.

I was born in Perth, but spent 10 years on the eastern seaboard of the country, which included 3 years in the Brisbane area. It would be correct to say I'm prejudiced when it comes to a choice, but it would also be correct to say that I feel justified in my reasoning when promoting Perth as the premier city of the two for a whole raft of reasons. It is telling that when deciding to raise a family my first thoughts was to return to Perth as the preferred option for child rearing. For a start, while the climate may entertain similar temperatures, you get NOTHING like the humidity of Brisbane in Perth. You also don't get hail the size of golf balls. I once saw a 5 min hail storm do over $3 million damage to an airfield in Brisbane. You can swim in the waters off Perth without worrying about jellyfish that can kill. Sharks, yes, but they occur in both areas. Nor do we have a Fraser Island with dingoes running rampant. The Quokkas may give you a cheeky grin though... There is way more to Perth than beaches and pretty scenery; if you think otherwise then you really haven't bothered to look. In the main I have found Perth people to be more generous of heart than Brisbanites. Evidence of this, for example, is the longest running Telethon on television when compared to ..... literally anywhere else on earth! Every single year since it's inception has seen record levels of donations. My own experience of living in Brisbane or the Gold Coast has been that people are OK so long as you have a buck in your pocket.

While I have my preferences, I have to say that having lived and worked in Perth, Brisbane, Melbourne and visited/worked in Sydney, Canberra and Adelaide, none of them are bad. Each have their pluses and minuses [Yes, even Perth! though I hate to say it] but by and large Australia is a truly great place to live and bring up a family.

Brisbane and Perth have different climates. Brisbane has a subtropical climate with hot and humid summers, while Perth has a Mediterranean climate that is a bit cooler and drier . Brisbane experiences more humidity compared to Perth. The winters in Brisbane are shorter than in Perth, and Brisbane is more sheltered from the cold than other southern capitals. Perth has hotter, drier summers than Brisbane with less humidity but more wind. Conversely, Brisbane has warmer, drier winters than Perth. Both cities get plenty of sunshine throughout the year, and Brisbane gets heavier downpours of rain. For a detailed comparison of the weather in Brisbane and Perth, you can refer to this [source].

In Western Australia it follows the typical sunnier in summer scenario so Perth summers are significantly sunnier than Brisbane while Brisbane in winter is significantly sunnier than Perth.

Born and raised in Adelaide and having lived in all of Australia's capital cities, Perth is no way the windiest city in Australia or the world. I once lived in Melbourne for 6 months, and that is hands down the windiest city in Australia. The reason why the rumour spread of Perth being windy is because of the "Fremantle Doctor" a strong, cool breeze that comes off the south west Indian Ocean in the summer time afternoons. I have lived 5 minutes from the coast for most of my 23 years in Perth, and it is either dead calm or gently breezy most of the year. The "Fremantle Doctor" is a cool, welcoming breeze that is soothing and cooling on summer afternoons. If you are on certain beaches during summer afternoons, it feels more like a wind. But it's no way like Melbourne, which is windy anywhere you go at any time of the year.

Perth is the sunniest city in the world and the third windiest. That wind is caused by the heat rising off the desert during the day. Its not as pronounced in winter. That wind is also why the best sailors come from perth. The big upside is perth is not disgustingly humid like brisbane. We have mosquitos but nothing like brisbane. Perth is also on asia’s timezone and - heres what eastern staters often overlook - is far closer to asia. Perth may be the most isolated capital city in the world but the melbourne sydney brisbane triangle is actually more isolated than perth. The worst thing about perth is that while it is easiest the best place to raise a family career opportunities tend to be a bit limited since the city is very focussed on mining and mining industry services.

Perth is the best capital city in the world to live. WA is simply amazing, so much to see in this beautiful big state. Don't tell anyone shhhhh, its our best kept secret. To many people moving to Perth now, wish they would bugger off back to the east.

Interesting comments regarding floods in Brisbane, Brisbane does have floods however it doesn t flood everywhere, Perth is prone to bush fires and has recently had serious fires, its a tradeoff in some ways. Brisbane is a huge city geographically one of the largest cities on the planet, 15,826 sq kilometers, so to take figures and apply temps, rain, nightime temps and compare is inaccurate as there is a fair variation in rainfall, temps, humidity and geography. Perth is comparatively smaller at 6,418 sq kilometers. Both are great cities to live in, the beaches of far Northern NSW, Gold Coast and Sunshine coast are superb and compare with any on the planet. Perth also has great beaches nort and south. Areas to the Nth, Sth and west of Brisbane are beautiful with a huge variety of terrain, the Scenic Rim area to the SW area of Brisbane was named as one of the top 10 places to visit in the world by Lonely Planet recently. I found Perth more isolated, From Brisbane cheap and easy flights to Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide, Cairns, Townsville etc anywhere other than SE Asia is an expensive flight from Perth. Very long drive to visit other Australian cities and states from Perth. Flights to New Zealand very inexpensive from Brisbane and Gold Coast Perth and Brisbane are both set on excellent rivers with lots to do. Lots of English and expat South Africans congregate in Perth, Brisbane somewhat more cosmopolitan in my opinion. I prefer Brisbane hinterland lifestyle, and the easy access to the very varied areas of the Eastern states personally but everyone will have their bias. Just my take!

The most important factor is the composition of the air in a particular spot -- the percent of deadly carbon monoxide, and of other gases and particles, for example coal dust. Any report ought to feature this knowledge above all other bits of information.

I'm a QLDer but really enjoyed my Perth days. I think Perth is better overall, only detractors is it's geographically isolated, even in timezone differences, therefore collaborations with other Aus cities are a bit more difficult. The colder, wetter winters were very different, as was the 4pm "Fremantle Doctor". QLD has fallen behind due to a faulty Premier and very conservative government, not adaptable at all to what the Australian people want.

Perth & the SW is windy. It's become much more windy in recent years and the winters longer. Australia \ the Pacific is currently in the La Nina part of the climate cycle so the SW in particular is cooler than normal. It's a lovely part of Australia and a lovely part of the world. If you want to get away from the crowds it's a good place to be.

Brisbane is much better if you want to be connected to the rest of the country and the world. It also has a distinctive culture and architecture found nowhere else. It is significantly larger than Perth once you factor in the 2 coasts on your doorstep, which adds another million people.
