This is my favourite Jane Austen novel and adaptation. Persuasion will always hold a special place in my heart.

This must be one of the most plain-looking Austen casts ever, but it feels wonderfully organic. It will be a great palate cleanser for many after the Netflix abomination.

Ciaran Hinds plain, Shylock? I cannot agree... And Corin Redgrave? Susan Fleetwood? Fiona Shaw? Phoebe Nicholls? And Amanda Root, though Anne is supposed to be plain? Samuel West? Perhaps you just don't like Georgian fashions. Lovely adaptation

The music on this adaptation is so sensitively interwoven, and details such as the street lantern lighting, added a delicate flavour to the story.

This is definitely the best adaptation. The whole cast is excellent. I love how Anne becomes more beautiful as the story progresses.

This is the best version ever filmed. The latest Netflix version isn't even in the hemisphere.

I rate the chair grasp at 30:57 right up their with the hand flex in Pride and Prejudice! Love this movie!

I love Persuasion both versions are very good. I'm a great fan of Rupert Penry Jones he is Captain Wentworth in the later film. My favourite part is during both versions when the Captains take their hats off ready for the kiss. Rupert Penry Jones has the edge 💕

I love the fact that the actors are so ‘plain looking’. They look natural. Some actors and especially actresses wear so much make up that they appear like mannequins or clowns. Depending upon how it is applied, make up can make one look cheap, ugly and loathesome. Fine acting performances all round. Brilliant production.

Ann's character was very capable in managing for her ghastly father and sister, but self effacing and timid when deciding on her own life choices. All came good in the end.

alison webster ... Hello there .. I just checked to make sure .. Fiona played Mrs Croft in the 1995 version of Persuasion and she has played Petunia Dursley in all of the 'Harry Potter' films .. And she also played Mrs Reed in the 1996 version of Jane Eyre as well .. What a talented lady she is ..

Hard to see how there was "moderation" while Anne's mother was alive. How she could have persuaded her husband to live with economy is beyond me!

Oh, I just saw a parallel. I came into the room at 1:40 and thought it was the scene when the household servants are all looking at Anne's father as they leave. But these men were looking with respect. Interesting foil there!

Great adaptation though Amanda Root as the pretty Anne Elliot who turned men’s heads didn’t seem a good fit to me. Though a superb actress I wouldn’t describe her as attractive nor pretty at all. Thank you for sharing these wonderful adaptations of Jane Austen works.

I wish we still had an England that looked like that! Beautiful, elegant and unspoilt!! And above all, ENGLISH!!!!!!!

Favourite scene: visiting Mrs Smith and her Nurse Rooke, who, "besides carrying her into her hot bath, gives her her one source on consolation - delicious gossip from the world outside!" 1:13:00

Not my favourite captain Wentworth, but no critism of his acting, it's merely his looks don't fit my vision of him. Ann isn't beautiful but has a pretty natural looking face. My only critism of pride and prejudice was lizzies makeup which detracted from the period.

1 hour 23. mins 48 sec's : Candles : they look artificial, as if running on gas....🤔..🤔 Their flames are too uniform.🤔.. And no wax dripping down...🤔... Ah well.....😢 🇬🇧🥀😊🌹🎼🇬🇧

@@pompng Is she really showing her feelings when she learns Mr.Wentworth's marriage to a Shropshire girl .First she thinks it is Fredrick then she realizes that it ìs his brother.Tell me what she is feeling and reflecting in this movie ?I can recommend you to watch 1971 version to see Anne's feelings on that subject.

Hello! Me from 2024 where thick eyebrows are once again considered beautiful! Also, moustaches and even beards are accepted for ' women' !
