You can lookup this brand called Bonston or 邦田 for an all-glass combo for both the strainer and beaker. The quick release valve is using a steel ball system. The model is BP11 which has a magnetic cover top.

Can I use this for smaller tea leaves like Japanese tea?

I have an older tea steeper similar to yours, the two pieces lock together,. It mine has a plunger. How much harder is it to clean these two? With mine, I can spin the plunger and disassemble the button, filter and plunger for easier cleaning. Also, can you brew tea with a Clever dripper or an Aeropress? I have a tea maker that is like a french press and wonder if other immersion brew methods would also work with teas.

That's actually an interesting question. I would imagine that you can brew tea with the Clever just fine. However I have never tried to use a paper filter with tea. I should give it a shot and see if it does anything to the taste. But I would think if you use a re-usable mesh filter if will work just the same. Though the Clever will be a bit more clunky to use on your desk.

@@XICups With the way we prerinse the paper filters and how traditional tea bags are made with a sort of cellulose material, I would think it would be nominal in affecting flavor, but you may be right as coffee traditionally has a more robust flavor that overtakes may lighter paper notes. A mesh filter is a good idea and would work on a Hario Switch easily, and I believe there are some mesh Melitta style filters available on Amazon that could work on the Clever Dripper.

I have seen some people do that, but the main difference is the separation of tea and water. With the French press the tea leaves will remain submerged which isn't ideal for tea unless if you pour everything out immediately.

I dont like that the tea is brewed in plastic. That was a dealbreaker for me.

I have yet to find one that's completely made out of glass, I assume this is due to the valve mechanism being tricky to design.

@@XICups meileaf has a flute brewer that is some ways similar to these and I believe it's all glass.
