It's a shame that the anime wasn't better. Why did they feel the need to restrain the series to only 26 episodes? If they had more episodes to work with the pacing would've been so much better and it wouldn't have felt so rushed.

That's not how anime production works buddy, also the anime was basically drafted to one of the current worst studios in the industry, so it is mostly just bad luck to be honest and a terrible schedule, even the director is actually amazing and very talented (He storyboarded the second Op completely), but he was under ridiculous time constraints and a horrible committee that didn't care much about the adaptation...

Whenever I hear this song, it reminds me of Akechi. His spiral down the dark path of revenge. He lived a life as if he was a blind man. The only light in his life was his mother, who took her own life after being shamed and shunned by Shido. Fueled by the rage of injustice, he stumbles through the dark to ruin Shido's life. In this song, I interpret the "dark sun" as Akechi himself. In traditional tarot, the Sun represents good fortune, happiness, and joy. The Sun reversed points at an unhealthy situation where the soul is suffering, yet it is not able to break free. Akechi's path of revenge leaves the wake of many people's untimely deaths (Futaba's mother, Haru's dad, etc). "Dark Sun, wherever you touch, blisters, and cracks." Akechi knows the path he chose is beyond redemption and there is no hope at the end of his journey. The only thing at the end of his path is emptiness and death. "[His] hope turned to dust, the longing for the crash, longing to be ash." "The fate of the blind, and now I'm all alone, in my starless mind" Eventually, Akechi runs into the Phantom Thieves and the tables have turned. "Am I the prey That was hunter once Could it be my last day (Could) they strike me down?" The Phantom Thieves were the complete antithesis of everything Goro Akechi was. Their sense of Justice, optimism, and the fact they had each other to rely on. To Akechi, Joker is the sole symbol of his admiration, jealousy, and hatred. Joker is a mirror of everything he could have been if he didn't choose to be the "Dark Sun." The only person closest to understand Akechi behind the mask and truly judge him was Joker. "Do you know me? Would you judge me? I'm lost But I can't admit Defeat Ain't an option Please Someone help" There is no happy ending at the end of his path, but he longs for salvation at death. I think that's what makes it such a powerful ending for him when Akechi chooses to sacrifice himself for the Phantom Thieves. "The fate of the blind."

With stars being such a part of Persona5's general aesthetic, I can't help but think "alone in my starless mind" is about not having a velvet room. Caroline, Justine, and 'Igor' (We know what happens with him.) are the stars in your mind. Combined with the rest of the song, few I'll list below, but I really do think this is about Goro Akechi. What bothered me most about the anime were the Sailor Moon like 'fights'. Zero depth and pretty much just copy pasted animations with different colours on all the personas. Otherwise it was okay.

@@vince8901 Not really, there is no threat there. And if there is, it's barely there. Probably cause Goro isn't the actual, evil antagonist of the game (more so an anti-hero in my eyes like the others but yeah lol)

I still imagine that in P5R we could have had a true final boss fight against Akechi with this song, during the very short period while Maruki's world is collapsing.

I think Joker is actually the dark sun and this song is Akechi referring to him. The speaker in the song keeps describing whoever the Dark Sun is and even asks them questions ("would you judge me?", etc), implying that Dark Sun is not the speaker. There's also the fact that black stars refer to Joker while white and gold stars refer to Akechi in their all-out attacks, official artwork, clothing, and in the background during gameplay.

Dark sun might also just refer to the moon too, especially when it says it turns to night when it rises. Something that supports it are the lyrics "The longing for the crash, the longing to be ash" which sounds similar to humanities subcouncious desire for death. Which is taken up as a topic in Persona 3 where this desire manifests as Erebus who tries to reunite with Nyx to Bring the Fall to humanity.

If Goro Akechi had he own anime this should be the intro theme. Also for the longest time I thought it was Dark Sun whenever you rise, danger tonight not day turns to night

I still love that this song talks more about shin megami tensei digital devil saga 2 than p5, for the ones interested, digital devil saga 2 features a literal dark sun that petrifies the humans who are touched by it's light. And also, the main characters are judged bc how they fighted to survive, and to finish, they main characters are ''hunters'' in the first game and preys in the second. I don't really know if it's a coincidence or a neat detail.

Later on afterwards, he tried to monetize his videos. Got denied and filed a dispute. When that happens, there's a defined chance of the video getting taken down with a copyright strike. That happened towards Lettuce Sauce and his channel got terminated.

You literally do fight Kasumi though. And this is much more like an Akechi theme than a Kasumi theme, especially considering she didn't exist at the time.

This song kinda reminds me of Evangelion, especially with Lilith’s black moon and the themes around the majesty and horror of it, which I also hear a lot in this song, obviously not intentional by the writers but the themes are similar
