For all of you wondering if Sae saving Zenkichi's ass is legal when it comes to criminal law, it is. Most likely off screen Zenkichi probably requested an attorney but he probably didn't have a way of getting one, which then leads to Makoto making the call to have Sae be Zenkichi's attorney, thus getting him out

Zenkichi did warn the Phantom Thieves to run right before the police burst in, so Makoto probably knew he was going to need legal aid and called Sae. Sae also told them that the arrest warrant either wasn’t signed or didn’t have charges listed (I forget).

​@@Canibar13from what I understand the cops either didn't have a warrant of arrest or it had no supporting evidence. The procedure was so borked that the cops had to release Zenkichi even if technically Japan allows for lawyerless interrogations for the first day or so.

I first thought zenkichi was a villain, but he’s one of my favorite characters now

@@vaasmontenegro9308 what's funny is Zenkichi could have been a villain everything he did he could have been the main antagonist considering how he says he'd sacrifice the phantom thieves to help his boss get up the ranks he's a corrupt officer/Investigator and it makes the moment he gets arrested so powerful. Zenkichi was never able to catch catch the criminal who killed his wife because all he did was follow the rules he never broke nor went out of his way to do so he simply followed the path hoping it will help him basically he took the easy way out and we see the results of it so his arrest was the moment he finally broke the rules and went out of his way to save the phantom thieves and for once he took a chance and a risk which he knows will actually get him arrested to save someone instead of sitting there and taking the easy way out and It's why he's become my favorite character in the series as he's essentially a dissection of the mind of a corrupt investigator/cop and considering Persona 5 paints the police as evil and corrupt we rarely get to ever see inside the mind of one and seeing him slowly realize things and change was satisfying seeing an adult middle aged man finally decide to go out his way to get something done rather then taking the easy route is the best way they could have ever done his character.

Crazy how if Futaba hadn't tripped, the Phantom Thieves would've been boned.

Sae may save the day for Zenkichi, but I wouldn't count out on Zenkichi for willing to go for a suicidal stealth mission to save the Phantom Thieves without his persona, and that's by getting to Akane with no guarantees too! This is definitely one of the most badass moment in P5S so far.

I refused to trust Zenkichi in the beginning because he was asked to arrest the whole gang if necessary (some sort of trauma because of Akechi’s betrayal lol) but in the end I was like “Zenkichi best dad”

Kind of a shame that we don’t get to see Sae with an in-game model, but it is nice that we at least got to hear from here for a bit (and how she has apparently done well as a lawyer if she was able to help gramps out in a situation where he likely wasn’t going to get out of).

I just beat the game hours ago... he's still silent in dialogue but he actually speaks frequently in cutscenes.

It's a cognitive jail, just as the ones in Sae's Palace on The Animation, you cannot force yourself out of there so easily.

@@leandroroman7053 I suppose but without a direct explanation or at least showing them trying to breakout, you can't exactly fault people for getting the impression that it makes no sense. It does help the narrative move along through tension but when you start asking questions that the current source material doesn't provide answers for in some way, it makes it look bad. The only immediate forgiving grace is chalking it up to game logic since there are many games where you simply have to ask one question that causes the immersion to fall apart

@@Gumi_Meg That is true for Persona 5 veterans but Strikers lightly touches up on the cognitive world so I wouldn't be surprised if newcomers didn't fully understand. Then again, don't know why anyone would start a game series with its sequel. Either way, I think its just a matter of people wanting answers fully shown or told to them

I'm going to be honest, I'm not super big on this scene because despite being all talk I really don't see Zenkichi resisting or squirming about at all. He's just sort of leaning there. Also, "protecting" Makoto? At this point in the game Makoto has been pretty ace in this department and fairly self-evident that Joker and the PT's have been the ones looking out for her.
