It's more that canon-wise, regardless of your personal choice in the original game, Joker didn't ACTUALLY romance anyone by the end of P5, the 'Canon' route is that the MC never gets with anyone, but of course that left everyone with the hots for him, you always see that whenever the next sequel/spin-off game comes out. Same happened for P4's MC XD

@@aerialmacaroon6312 No, the thing was that, in previous games, the girl of the Lovers' Arcana always very obviously fell for you story-wise even if you didn't do her S. Link (Rise, Yukari, etc). P5 was the first to break that tradition because Ann is the same as the others if you don't do her Confident to max. Also became kinda a moot point because sequel games that showed the MCs again showed that the girls all DID have the feelings they gained for him in their 'routes', but never actually got together with them.

There is no actual ANSWER as for 'why', but the truth of the matter is that, while you can choose to romance any of them in the previous games, as this game (And sequel games usually) show, the 'canon' path is that the MC doesn't actually get together with any of them, even if they DO end up falling for him still. Probably to not trigger the fandom by making any specific one 'Canon'. And well, Makoto/Minato kinda died at the end of his game, so yeah...

In Atlus’ defense, that was how teenage boyhood was. I didn’t start appreciating my time with the bros until I was a senior at High School, the same age as Ryuji is in Strikers. I fully agree, boys should appreciate being with the boys but it’s not out of the ordinary for dudes to be hella insecure at 16-17 about not being with a girl at Valentines day or Christmas Eve, which is a more romantic occasion in Japan.

Actually, there is a canon option. The PQ games are canon. In the 5th Chapter of PQ2, Joker has the option to compliment Hikari and that leads down to a conversation that Ann, Haru and Makoto jump into about the fact he'd never break a girl's heart. He, meanwhile, starts looking very nervous to the point where the P3 and P4 protags tell Joker to watch his back. Harem route is canon.

Not that "it isnt the continuation of royal" when looking at how they talk bout past projects they always refer to them as PInsertNumber. They always say p5 p4 or p3 and never refer to a specific version like fes or golden. Yet we know fes and golden are canon. So why wouldnt royal be the same

I always felt like Mako and Joker (whatever name you choose) are paralleled to each other, which would explain Mako’s interest in him, aside from the fact she had to stalk him and gets help from him a couple of times. Ann felt like that female homie to my joker personally, but opinions will always be valid as long as they aren’t straight up evil or creepy (A.K.A. all the weirdos into the twins or Lavenza).

When Arena was released, many people assumed Arena is a sequel to the vanilla version instead of Golden. When Arena Ultimax was released, the game finally confirmed that both Arena games are sequel to Golden instead of vanilla version due to Marie showing up in the story mode for a short while.

The lack of direct references doesn't make it non-canon, and I'm very certain Atlus will come along and confirm it at some point - they didn't add on to the story of the Phantom Thieves for no reason after all

see this is the one of the 2 issues I have with modern JRPGs, when some of them add "built your own story" elements like romance possibilites but they keep the story as a whole linear, for example in my first walktrhough I romanced Ann, pretty early too, but most of the game cutscenes show not even a hint of the romance, it really messed up the immersion for me, that and the fact that ann seems to have a thing for Ryuji, now here in strikers romance options seems like they didn't matter.... unless you romanced one of the other girls that were just confidents, other game companies have found clever ways around this sequel issue, for example, the witcher 3 has a scene where a guy interviews geralt about events that happened in the witcher 2 if you played it you can continue the story as you left it in that game, and I'm aware making multiple anime cutscenes to match your romance options is probably asking to much, but maybe a bit more effort on the game's cutscenes would've been nice or some nods here and there to make me feel my previous choice. My other big issue with modern JRPGs is the silent protagonist, I think is time to retire the trope, I know it was created to have the player immerse more in the game, but back then games only have text and very simple scripts and story now with games having Hollywood levels of scripts and top tier voice actors, a silent protagonist sticks out like a sore thumb, it really messes with the immersion, again look at games like the witcher or horizon zero dawn, the main character has it's own name and voice but you can still make them represent you pretty well have his or her responses match your personality more, I like Eloy's response choices of "emotional", "compassionate" and "logical". But I digress, japan seems to like the formula so I really doubt it will change any time soon.

@@PenguinsAreColdish not in strikers, in the original game, she was devastated the most when the team thought ryuji died when the last palace collapsed, certainly the one that felt the saddest, in the beach cutscene she was happy he had those pervy thoughts and manerisms, lastly they are the ones that bicker the most, and if you think this is overthinking, this is scripted like an anime and this is a very common trope in anime, bickering girl and boy= they're in love.

@@PenguinsAreColdish 1 year late but, ann says she hates men who stare at her for only her looks, but when ryuji full perv stares at her she not only has no negative reaction, but goes onto to hang off him like thier dating, same thing goes for hawaii, when she goes too put the flower in his hair and he pulls away, she basically climbs on him to put it there in her swim suit no less.

@@dragenfire68 nah sorry but you’re deluded if you think any romanceable character in a harem game isn’t into the mc. they made that pretty clear in strikers with that one scene where she desperately wants to find out who joker would bring on a date and gets mad if you say it’s none of them maybe p6 we’ll see an actual romance between party members

I’m going to find this hilarious just because I’ve only played Royal and romanced Sumire. Moments like these are going to feel like some kind of subtle revenge on the girls’ parts.

@@DrkMegaman Can you imagine if Sumi is the first Persona-user where 2 souls share a body and they share the same Persona? (Sho doesn’t count technically because the second personality was artificially made by Ikutsuki and only he can summon a Persona. In the end, Minazuki, the second personality, sacrificed himself to save Sho and became Sho’s Persona.)

My first playthorugh romance was Kasumi. I felt for her at first sight. But my second playthorugh romance was for Ann. I am between that two girls. I like gymnastics girls, and her red hair, and her politeness (Kasumi). And I love her sweetness, her appearance, her kindness (Ann).

This hurts more due to the fact that I dated every girl in Royal except Yoshizawa because I ran out of time. If in canon the valentine's scene happened before this then it says a lot about their relationships. I mean if you found out your boy/girlfriend is cheating on you on valentine's with 10 other people, wouldn't your feelings get crushed.

This feels weird, at P5 Royal I told Ann that it didn't matter if he was on the other side of the world, I would go for her. Or that the two of them would go back to Hawaii alone. but here they are just friends, although he did have the occasional hint in one of the boss fights.

This scene seems stupid if your MC is romancing one of the Thieves (Ann for me) so my personal headcanon is that if one of them is Joker’s girlfriend, they’re either playing along with the rest of the girls’ confusion so as not to out their relationship and make them look suspicious, or they’re hinting at Joker that they should finally tell the others and they’re too shy to announce it themselves. Makes way more sense than Ann developing amnesia and suddenly forgetting that her and Joker are madly in love.
