    It's a shame how breeders tried breeding flat faces into the breed. The original Persian is infinitely more beautiful.

    I bred Persians for almost 12 years. There’s a lot of points here that are right on but there’s a whole bunch of them that are absolutely wrong. Persians are like dogs, extremely intelligent and very easy to train. They are so unlike any other breed of cat in that they are anxious to please, they seek a companionship and an approval from their owner. They hate to be scolded and display a guilt complex when you correct them. They have very long memories and they don’t tend to forget. They’re sight and hearing is extremely sharp. They are also like dogs in the sense that they can sense when something is wrong with you, they will pester you like crazy but only out of love and concern knowing and sensing something that perhaps you might not about yourself. They are not independent and should not be left alone like other cats. Some cats you can leave for a couple of days but Persians need daily attention both in the morning and in the evening. So before you go to work make sure you cuddle your kitty and then when you get home give them lots of attention, they’re very needy. The exotic breed or the short haired Persians live longer than the long-haired Persians especially the extreme or pig nose Persians. No one knows exactly why this is but the exotic breed lives nearly 80% longer. The average lifespan of a long-haired extreme Persian is about 12 to 14 years. Exotics can live 18 to 20 years. Lots and lots of respiratory problems with these cats and keeping a course of amoxicillin on hand is a breeders Godsend. These cats get respiratory infections easily because they cannot breathe or expel air through their nasal passages the same way so keeping their faces wiped off daily is critical to their health. Also their digestive systems are very sensitive. They get diarrhea easily and do not like change of diet. If you’re going to introducing new food, you have to do it extremely slowly. And let’s not start with the hairballs. Adding a little bit of olive oil to their food dry or wet will help lubricate the intestines and keep hairballs at a minimum. I loved my babies and I miss them terribly. I moved to Texas after they had all died and because it gets so warm down here I chose not to get another long-haired person though I want one desperately. They are companions unlike any other cat and unlike most dogs. They are true love machines, it’s in them to want to be with you.

    This is a great comment! I just adopted an 8 year old 6lb white and gray Persian. She REALLY hates me cleaning her eyes. I know it’s important. Do you have any tips? Her owner died, but she seems like she was well cared for so I would think she’d be used to it. but no

    @@jenbunni9111 depends on what you’re cleaning the eyes with. I always used just plain saline solution for contacts. Keep in mind that a lot of times the reason they hate their face cleaned is because it’s already hard for them to breathe and they feel like they’re being smothered. When you press down in the creases of the nasal fold to clean it out you’re actually closing their nasal passage in doing so and it makes them feel as if they’re suffocating. I did mine with a Q-tip and as cruel as it might sound I always held the back of their neck like the mother cat would do when carrying them. Cats go very still when you grab that section of the neck, it doesn’t hurt them and it’s very useful in keeping them under control. You’ll even see it when males mount the female to keep her under complete control, he will grab the back of her neck the same way a mother cat would grab a kitten. Cleaning the eyes is never a fun process and they’re always a bit grumpy about it. But the more you keep the area clean the less sensitive they will be about it. If there’s any discoloration, usually the saline solution will rinse that out. Don’t ever be tempted to use a mild bleach solution, I’ve seen some people try that. It isn’t so much about that it would hurt their eyes it’s that it burns the fur and discolor is it permanently. It’s best to either use saline solution or distilled water with a little bit sea salt. Salt is a natural cleaner and it’s also naturally pH neutral so it helps remove stains even from your carpet and upholstery. You just have to make sure you rinse it all the way out because salt can also burn like a chemical burn. A mild peroxide solution on a Q-tip also helps remove discolor and disinfect the area. A major thing I will tell you is to keep the dewclaw completely trimmed down. Persians have a high propensity to get eye ulcerations because their eyes are so big and bulbous. Sometimes when they get something in their eye they will obviously use their paw to scratch or to rub the eye and the dewclaw if it is not trimmed can catch the eye and scratch it. This is another reason keeping their nasal folds and eyes clean at all times is so important. You will spend a fortune going to the vet to have are ulcers treated if you don’t follow this little bit of advice.

    @@vdgitalianoI simply use the eye wash solution, made of Boric Acid - no, not the ant powder, the pharmaceutical grade liquid, used for ER eyewash stations! I'm guilty of swiping some, after I remove my contacts, feels great 👍 I put those flat, cosmetic cotton pads, into a sterilized container, and arrange as many as I can, comfortably. Then, I grab the refrigerated squirt bottle, squirt it onto the pads, until moist - you don't want them dripping wet. Put the lid on, refrigerate! Persians, any pet with a flat face. Significantly cheaper than, "Angel Eyes," without daily, low dose antibiotics. If my Persian's allergies kick in, then I give her 1/4 of a Chlor-trimetron, the size the vet says, via small pill shooter. It's cheaper to buy the same one, we both take. She takes 1/4 of that generic's dose. Between open dialogue with doc and vet, I've dropped price of both our meds. We both even take same IBS med, except mine doesn't taste like chicken! She takes a different dosage. Crazy when mine is $10/mo, and her's is $30/mo, just for adding chicken broth!

    Persians are one of the most popular cat breeds in North America. They look beautiful with their long, flowy coats and have a calm, affectionate temperament. Persians are not very energetic. They are happy lounging on the couch and achieve contentment getting ear scratches and gentle hand contact by their humans.

    I had a sweet loving and amazing cat called milo, he was my first cat and I loved him to death, got him at the age of a month and a half and he was like our younger brother, we raised him and loved him dearly, even my mom who acted as if she doesn’t like cats loved him since he saw her as his mom, he used to sleep beside her and run and lay between her legs when he gets scared, he stayed with us for an entire year before losing him due to a war situation in my country. I love him so much, he was the most loving most amazing friend I ever had, he used to curl up and sleep on my arm, he used to wake me in the most gentle of ways, he used to wait for me at the door and run to me when he sees me after a long day. I love you so much milo, you were the most amazing sweet friend ever 💔 Edit: apparently he was a purebred persian cat which I didn’t realize for the majority of the time I had him for, he was mostly white with some orange scattered around his ears, tail and paws, he had ocean like blueish eyes, and a look that will melt the roughest of hearts

    I've had three Persians and all three could be very loud when they wanted my undivided attention or letting me know I was late getting home (one I called my little siren because his voice would go up and then down again. He also hated when I left for work in the morning and wouldn't look at me when I said goodbye). One was super laid back and didn't mind tardiness but liked to come up behind me daily and let out a loud yell when he made an appearance (he liked to see me jump, I'm sure!). They all got up onto tables and/or counters and shelves and liked to be up high and liked to play with nick-knacks (one self-punished himself when he broke something and wouldn't go back in that room). All three were very intelligent and understood 40+ words and phrases. All three were very sensitive and hated to be scolded and I made sure I never raised my voice with them. They were very playful and loved to race through the rooms and up and down the stairs. They never ever went for my face with their claws out like other cats do when very upset. Very good with brushing and teeth cleaning, nail trimming, etc. One loved to be combed and brushed so much he asked for it daily or came running when I held up the brush or comb.

    If you’re looking at the comments and confused on the level of care for a Persian because of the debate- I have 2 Persians. One is of full bred, cat show quality with the paperwork of lineage- he requires 30 min to 1 hr of brushing a day. He also requires his eyes cleaned throughly once a day and wiped throughout the day. He also has a host of medical issues due to the breed itself, they are notorious for costly health issues. My other Persian is not full bred, she came with no paperwork, she has more of a pronounced nose and she requires brushing still daily, but I’m a big advocate of brushing all cats (it also prevents hair all over the house) but she doesn’t have nearly as dense of hair. She has no health concerns and I only occasionally wipe her eyes. I still take them both to the groomer, the hair is a lot for them and they much prefer a short coat. When their hair is short, they are more lively and happy. Knots tend to form on tops and bottom of paws, around the head and in the leg and armpits. I do not recommend this breed. I would die for my sweet babies but I also see how limited they are and believe this breed should go extinct or at the very least, mix with healthy regular cats to get good genes again and create a new type of breed that would have some of the cute features but that could enjoy life the way a regular cat does. My best cat I ever had was a free one from a neighbor, I still miss her deeply to this day. Hope this helps.

    I have a long haired Persian and he most definitely does not need to be brushed everyday especially for 15 minutes. I only have to brush him two to three times a week for like 5 minutes top and he’s long haired, shes exaggerating, also my Persians eyes to do not need to be cleaned daily. If you ask a breeder or a vet person they’ll say it depends on the Persian. An extreme faced Persians eyes will probably have to be wiped daily but it also just depends. You shouldn’t classify all Persians to having these same requirements cause it’s just not accurate.

    I adopted my little short haired Persian with her brother (not blood) when they were three and fives years old. I have had them for seven years now so my little Persian, Sophie is now ten. She definitely has the Peke face but I have never in seven years had any health issues with either of my cats. They are exclusively indoor cats and have a balcony they love to lay on in the summer. I can't believe my cats are seniors now at ten and twelve years old. They still act the same way they did when I first brought them home. Sophie is the first Persian cat I ever owned and she truly is different that other cats. She is the most gentle little cat I ever had and she loves constant attention. She follows me around the Apartment no matter what I am doing. She is very sweet and her Brother Charlie who I believe is a Maine coon mix, is a big goofball. I feel very lucky that I found them to adopt.

    I have two peke face persians and I am never going back to any other breed of cat. Betelgeuse and Laszlo are literally the best pets. They do nothing wrong, have such social and loving personalities. They are extremely healthy (I chose very reputable breeders with parents who have won grand champion statuses) and fully tested for PKD and other common hereditary illnesses as well as had their nares diameter tested 2 times before sell and once after sell to ensure they do not need tubes. Persian cats are a labor of love. Luckily, I am a professional cat groomer so combing daily and bi weekly baths are just part of the routine. If anyone is thinking of getting a persian, please invest in the cat from the get go. Getting the best breeders, making sure the tests are done before and after sell, if youre going to keep the coat and groom yourself: a pet hair dryer, metal greyhound combs, a small clipper like bravura for sanitary and feet trims, ball point shears for tufts on the feet, ear cleaner, eye wipes, a firm slicker brush, nail trimmers to name a few. IF you are not going to groom your persian yourself. FIND A CAT GROOMER AND GET PRICES BEFORE YOU COMMIT. Cat groomers are extremely hard to find and you need to have a sizeable budget (100-180$ per bath and/or haircut shave down if you arent going to maintain the coat). I also recommend a filtering water fountain style waterer for persians as they do not drink volumes as regular cats but the fountain definitely makes them enjoy drinking more, they have sensitive stomachs so be prepared to get probiotics and/or special GI food. This is my best advice for anyone wanting to take on this luxury cat breed. Be prepared that for the 12-14+ years you are maintaining a living creature that takes as much time as a small child daily with costs to boot.

    I had one Persian who was always wanting to go out and kept sneaking out. Once he got out unbeknown to me and I didn't discover it until later that day when I got home from work and couldn't find him. Discovered him in the bushes beside the house, he was so upset and wailing. Took a while to comfort and calm him down. Even that trying time didn't dampen his love of the outdoors.

    I have a question I recently got my Persian. His previous owners didn’t get him any toys but I want to because he seems very smart. What sort of toys should I get that he will actually play with? Sometimes I throw a ball and he chases it, would that be considered playing?. Also for food the previous owners told us to give him the whiskas hard food box, is that ok?. Also for cleaning his eyes his owners only used water dampened on a tissue so I am also doing that? Is that alright too?. Also in terms of grooming I don’t know if I’m doing it right. Do I just brush a few times over the hair and also around the neck and that’s it?. My Persian wakes me up habitually at like 7am everyday and meows a lot. Is that normal?. And how often do you clip their nails and bathe them? And sometimes when I pick him up he makes a guttural kind of sound from his nose? His owners didn’t tell us he needs his nose cleaned only his eyes. So do I clean his nose too?. Also how often do I brush his teeth? The owners told me when his breath starts to smell

    Petition for making the doll face a officially recognized type of the breed! They’re healthier and closer to the original milenar breed. It’s really frustrating trying to look for good profissional breeders because they only breed the flat face :( I wonder if all would still do that if the doll face was considered official.

    My ragdoll loves to be outdoors, just like any moggy, which leads me to believe all cats like outdoors, despite what they tell you, I've noticed a lot of mis-information on these beautiful bred cats! another thing mine hates being brushed, its a battle which your not going to win but in spurts can be done! Do not wash a cat, they have antiseptic or similiar in their saliva which keeps them clean!

    I'm disappointed she didn't advice in buying a doll face Persian instead of the flat faced. A month ago my flat faced kitten of six months died on the operating table while being neutered. I love the breed but didn't know there was any other kind of Persian than the flat faced one. I don't recommend ever buying them. My kitten had difficulty breathing and he couldn't even meow properly. When I get a new cat some day it will definitely be a doll faced kind.

    I have owned seven Persian cats and never bathed them, it is completely unnecessary! Every day I brushed them followed by using a flea comb so there was never any dead or dirty fur. If an area became dirty I sprinkled it with food grade Diatomaceous Earth which is very good for their digestion, and then brushed it out. I cleaned their eyes with warm used tea bags and cleaned their mouths with just warm water. They always looked immaculate. Unfortunately they are very fragile and cannot cope with shots and booster shots. My cats which were all Rescued were never jabbed while with me, but died from Feline Infectious Peritonitis or Calici Virus, things that they acquired from the shots as my other cats never got sick from these horrific diseases. Please never use spot on flea treatments as they cause cancer and just use Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth and a flea comb. A Homoeopathic Vet is the best choice and if they are coughing and eating grass give them homoeopathic Nux Vomica for fur balls. My cats lived much longer when I had educated myself and also did well on raw organic meat and/or organic food. WE ARE WHAT WE EAT. Namaste 🙏 !

    So you say it's better for the health not to vaccinate it?

  • @tumbleweeduk7479

    @tumbleweeduk7479

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@entropeus5979 Disease and epidemics were caused by dirty drinking water, no sewage disposal no refrigeration et cetera all these conditions were improved around the time the vaccines came along but the epidemics and diseases ended before vaccination, but the vaccines got the credit because they were so profitable. Polio for example was caused by DDT pesticide and went away immediately they banned the pesticide but the polio vaccine was sent to India and Africa and paralysed 400,000 Indian children and the only polio now to be found anywhere in the world is from the vaccine. I did all the research 30 years ago after my cats died. Humans and animals are born with a brilliant immune system which is all they need, the minute you introduce drugs, pesticides et cetera you sabotage this essential defence system. The current renamed flu is actually a vitamin D deficiency and we should’ve all been issued with vitamin D, C, zinc selenium and iodine and we could’ve carried on as normal and the economy wouldn’t have been destroyed and they wouldn’t have been massive business losses suicide and starvation worldwide.There is nothing wrong with a Detox, it is criminal governments calling it a contagious pandemic that is the problem. If you look at all cause deaths for 2020 there was no increase over previous years, so where are the bodies, simply re-labelled. Trust the immune system that God gave you and give it what it needs and you will be fine and so will your pets. Of course important that you and your pets eat good quality food, you are what you eat LOL

  • @tumbleweeduk7479

    @tumbleweeduk7479

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@manjushag6841 Read what I said above about the vaccinations which in my opinion means no vaccinations for animals or humans. Your cat will arrive having had vaccinations unfortunately unless you can find a breeder who doesn’t do them. My friends cat recently had a rabies vaccination to go abroad and immediately became paralysed from the waist down and then got cancer and died. You need to brush them every day with a good quality brush , Followed by a comb and followed by flea comb, every day because if they get tangled they have to go to the vet and have an anaesthetic and be shaved. You must do it absolutely every day, it keeps them cool and comfortable if their hair is flowing free. They do best on raw meat, preferably rabbit, lamb or beef, if you freeze it first it will kill any parasites and cut it very small. If they will eat four or five organic prawns every day if that will help them but actually I gave mine fishfingers! Plus raw rabbit. Also organic biscuits.I have a rescue 24-year-old Siamese at the moment and the prawns really help him to stay relaxed and alive as they have zinc and sea minerals. But they must not be formed or from the Far East. I always feed my cats whatever they want because they don’t over eat like dogs! They need toys and company and the litter tray must be plain fullers earth, Not that dreadful white perfumed litter. If they get dirty just wait till the dirt dries and comb it off or sprinkle some food grade diatomaceous earth on their coat and comb it through, combing that through will also protect them from parasites and they will lick it off which is very good for the stomach. I drink it myself every day. I never bathed mine it was completely unnecessary. Also some vitamin D is good, although if you are giving them fresh salmon or any fresh fish that should be enough. Persian cats are really wonderful but don’t get one unless you want to be a really responsible owner, too many people buy them just because they look good, but they only look good if they are well taken care of. Thank you for asking my advice and also the best place to get your cat is from a rescue, I never buy kittens because they’re far too many cats needing homes in the rescue places and it is much more rewarding to rehome a cat That had a hard time. 😻💜😻
