Since launching his solo musical career in 1998 with an eponymous album, Irish singer/songwriter Perry Blake has specialized in thoughtfully crafted electronic songs. Owing as much to vintage tunes from the golden days of AM radio by artists as diverse as Burt Bacharach, Bread, and David Bowie, as to synthpop as its typically presented, Blake’s songs offer lyrics and sounds arrived at by introspection and inspiration. Blake’s brand-new album, 'Death Of A Society Girl,' continues an ongoing collaboration with instrumentalist and co-producer Graham Murphy that began with the first album.
I spoke with Blake at length, from his home in a small village in County Sligo, in Northwest Ireland, where the tranquil environment seems an ideal setting to support the creation of his contemplative musical offerings.
