My mom was a clown, mostly she did birthday parties but she also appeared in the Ringling Bros Circus at one point...for closeup work she would often buy and use the dumb dollar store magic items to use in her act so yes a career can be made from terrible magic tricks. She would do them badly on purpose so it would reveal how the trick was done and it would make the kids laugh at her supposed "incompetence".

In regards to the Thumb Tip, since everyone has a different skin tone, you are expected to paint it whatever shade you want. Technically though, the colour and shape shouldn't matter at all. Syldini was known to use a TT painted bright red, the point being that If the audience is staring at your TT, your not doing a very good job at directing the audiences' attention.

I mean, yes, but also even if you're moving around your hands enough to take their focus ENTIRELY away from it, you can see bright color differentiation in your peripheral. Peripheral is actually built to recognize differences in color more so than anything else, second is motion. Brightly colored motion would set off every red flag your body has, and redirection doesn't turn that instinct off. It's not about staring at the thumb tip, it's about getting them to never see it in their peripheral. I also can find no source, or even MENTION of Slydini using Bright red thumb tips, and I somehow doubt he did it for anything more than the occasional shits and giggles.

In South Africa we have 5 Rand stores (10-15 rands to a pound). Back in the day, 5rNd used to equal a pound, and our stores sold good quality stuff, not nowadays.

((When Ashens said "Blood for the Blood God", I literally just chanted "Skulls for the skull throne!" Not sure if he's a Warhammer 40k fan or if he just heard the meme online but I'll take it.

Hm, I remember learning that magic cube trick at a summer camp in like, 1998 or something, and the way the couple visiting magicians taught it to us, was way better than what Poundland is intructing you to do. Poundland; stingy even with intructions.

Loved the addition of the fanfare, awesome stuff.

I had that exact thumb tip trick. Only it was a slightly more accurate skin tone. But I'm pretty sure it was exactly the same mold. The difference being, I had mine about 10 years ago.

I've seen a version of this where the thumb thing comes with a few bottles of paint so you can match it to any skin color (and the rest of it was considerably higher quality). That was about 20 times more expensive though (which is still only 20 quid).
