Permanently Remove Condensation In Headlights Without Filling Them With Water

This is an easy way to remove the condensation from your headlights. I also show you how to locate where the water is getting in, and how to permanently fix the leak.
Its a very simple process. All you will need to do this is a few basic tools and a bottle of soapy water. Everything I used in the video is in linked in this description!

Never thought about the soap and water trick. I bought a solution which I later found out was effectively soap and water to look for a leak in the brass connectors for my argon tank I use for TIG welding. Great thinking. Thanks man!

Awesome! Doesn’t work with all of them, but it’s a lot easier than resealing the whole thing. So I definitely recommend giving it a shot.

Thank you! I'm going to do this without removing headlamp, it's a big deal with the Explorer. Sometimes simple absolutely works, just need to find the person with the idea. PS soapy water also works well for finding leaks in air mattresses. :-)

Bro thanks on this idea So summarize I had my new ebay headlights on and off the car like 3 times Cause i applied permatex adhesive rtv (black) All around the seal of both headlights Assuming that was the only place water could get in And no luck moisture every single hard rain storm THEN tried ur soap and water method AND BOOM There was water entry thru the turn signal socket Would of never figured that out thanks

I’m curious if this fix stood the test of time? I’m going to try this in a couple weeks on my ex wife’s 2018 Buick TourX. She was involved in a fender, bender, and the local mechanic used an aftermarket headlight, which immediately developed condensation on the inside. I’m wondering if this will do the trick! Please let me know if this held up for you.

Instead of taking it to the carwash first, why not let it dry/cure for a day, or at least use air duster again and give it an hour, respray with soap, blow in to see if leak is still there....thennnnnnn do the carwash step, as a final test. Otherwise, if you didn't initially seal it properly the first time, then you just fix it properly again right there.

how did you blow air in to the light for the sioap to create bubbles?

Condensation is a cold air and hot air making contact. It's a weather thing as long as there is cold air and there is warm surface inside your headlamp no matter how much you seal it its going to happen, like the condensation inside your wind shield. The only thing to suck up that condensation (moisture) is silica jell.

Why not just completely seal it all the way round with silicone when the entire light is out?

Is it possible for a headlight to not have such leaks, but still develop condensation that doesn't go away on its own. Acura TSX 04/05 are notorious for this and people have reported that even new headlights suffer from this sometimes. It seems that a design flaw could also be the reason for this. There is even a factory installed desiccant pack inside the headlights of the mentioned cars.

3M Black super weatherstrip adhesive stays pliable and stays stuck to plastic lamp better, would not recommend silicon!

Luckily I didn’t have to use it the way I did it, but if I did, I was thinking silicon would have been the best way to go since it’s pliable. Sounds like there’s a better option out there! Thanks for putting that info in here!

You bought a new headlight due to that tiny amount of oxidation? A few minutes with compound and a foam pad, more clear than original. Re-clear coat it and done.

  • @nakedvader

I masked off my headlight and sprayed canned rubber you see on tv. I figured if moisture was getting , it would be at the area of the seal. So far so good! Dodge should be ashamed putting crap out like this. If ANYTHING goes wrong, there are no parts available, they want you to buy a who new headlight unit, which comes to around $500 Canadian!

Well... it’s still sealed 7 months later. While it may not work in every scenario, it’s a lot easier to do before pulling everything out to replace all of the butyl tape. Might as well try the simple fix before the complicated one.
