Perkins engines are not crap. there are no if's and's or but's about it.

@05clenharth youre right about the gutles part we had a combine with a 540 in it thats the only perkins i liked , love the sound of it drove MF tractors with the perkins drove great but just wont lug when the goin gets tuff they stall

It's bad for the motor because all the gaskts would be dried out and there would be little or no oil around the engine yet. There is a few more resons but i can't remember what they are right now. I once made the mistake of using our Fordson E72N with a perkins P6 disel to move a rather heavy log and because the tractor had been sitting for about a year without being started it blew the head gasket under load. reving the engine can do the same thing or cause a whole list of other problems.

Never mind, it's just You Tube screwing up.

Engine runs great! Where/how did you find the fire engine & what happened to it?

U can rebuild very cheaply. bearings, new rings, as long as no rebore required, even then wouldnt cost to much, dont know about new pistons though, that may be costly if u need them. My friend had one of these in a boat, sounded lovely, especially with open exhausts. "found in hedge!" excellent. R u going to remove engine for other usage?

nothing wrong with v8 perkins,except in new zealand they were expected to power three axle trucks with 2 or 3 axle trailers hooked on and 38 ton all up. they did it just slowly.

If it's been in a fire appliance chances are it is low mileage and has been well maintained!

there good engines and last for ever, there just gutless

all the v8 perkins is good for is making 8 ashtrays out of the pistons. 2 more than the usual 6354 engines which is a bonus. now lets discuss proper engines such as gardners or cummins, even cat :)

another all revs and no torque pile of shite. bedford tm with a stroker in it. mmmmmmmmmmmmm i remember the toliet lid on it to stop it bouncing on compression then running backwards, using the sump oil as fuel and exhausting through the blower

what a pile of outdated crap these engines were. head gaskets blowing, oil coolers going tits up, having to spill time em as part of the service schedule. rated at 170bhp and gutless with it.

i bow to higher intelligence farm boy. i suppose my 31 years dont count in thee colonies? perkins v8 engines are crap just like the 6354.2 and .4
