Our third Rig Rundown with Periphery’s Jake Bowen, Mark Holcomb, and Misha Mansoor-at Nashville’s Marathon Music Works on April 2-caught the band on their final tour stop for a spring run in support of the brand-spankin’-new Periphery V: Djent Is Not a Genre. Our time with the triumvirate of tone reminded us that these fellas never rest their ears. They know gear and how to make it work for them. That’s why each of them has spent extensive time in several R&D collaborations with some of the biggest, most influential companies in guitardom. This time Bowen, Holcomb, and Mansoor all dish on the evolutions of their signature gear and how everything meshes and molds together for the greater, Transformer-like machine that is Periphery. Whether it’s going up to 27 frets, utilizing Alnico 8 magnets, or adding an Evertune bridge to compensate for deeply dropped tunings, this trio of tone hounds will sniff it out. Let’s dig in!

Is loathe rig rundown coming?
I went to a Periphery show in 2017 and came to the meet and greet before the show. I brought my PRS Holcomb SE to show Mark. When I showed him, he ran to the back and brought out his Private Stock 7 string and switched me so I could play his guitar and he could play mine. It was a special moment. Such great guys.

Killer guitars, but I’ve never liked the look of the single coil size paired with a humbucker size like that. I love the sound options but I guess I’m ocd with aesthetics when it comes to 2 pickup guitars. I just prefer both pickups to physically match. lol even a tele custom with a humbucker in the neck looks off to me. I can’t help it.

I don't often watch rig rundowns, but it's really nice when the interviewer knows their stuff, and the interviewees are willing to discuss.
marks custom shop story is insane. imagine buying that for $200
“Because they have to be THAT good” Misha standing by his product using the same guitars I could buy online, respectable. 👍👌
Thx PG; love these guys and their continued 'all in' attack to dominate a genre. Remarkable shows and for fans 'of a certain age' this ensemble *rocks*. Thanks again to everyone!

That's one of few beefs w/PRS is what Mark mentioned. Basically, Paul won't do something unless a celebrity wants it, then he'll come on board. I'd like to see something in between - their standard radius is 10". Mark's is 20". I'd like to see 14" to get the best of both.
@Spidouz

In PRS view, their 10” is already a middle ground between the Fender 7”¼ and Gibson 12”…
@Scott__C
Жыл бұрын
@@Spidouz I suppose, but I also saw Paul say he came across a couple of old LPs that were 10" radius which sounded like a justification. Not sure what tools they had at that time there, but I feel pretty certain they didn't have a pile of radius blocks and told everyone to pick whichever they felt like. I think he wanted to not be seen as "copying" Gibson.
