Hahaha, my husband is good at it too. "You're close to your periods aren't you?" "How do you know?" "Just the way you are cleaning the house". Very observant...he also surprises me with chocolate sometimes (enabler...love it though)(more romantic than magnesium supplements).

I do watch your period videos and Learn so much form them. I never really knew what a girl/woman goes through during their period it’s quite fascinating. I do hope you continue to make theses videos because it’s a natural thing and no one should feel embarrassed it. I mean I never know there were period pants, cups, or anything like that. Or the emotions and mood swings associated with periods. Or How painful some periods can be. Keep educating and destigmatizing because it’s something few people are willing to do

Oh top of it all most men don’t believe us women when we try and tell them that we cannot always control our emotions when we are on our periods. And I don’t mean we are angry all the time but just think of it as having a short fuse for everything. We can be easily happy, sad angry, frustrated just all the emotions. It is really hard to control when your hormones are literally up and down all the time they aren’t ‘normalised’ hormones. My partner through the years has learned that I really can’t control it and he’s more understanding of it now, I mainly get very upset but when I’m angry I can’t hide it were as when I’m not on my period you can hold back a bit more. And I just want to add when I get angry I’m not violent just shouting or going into a ‘mood’ easily 😂

I get suicidal for a week to 10 days before my period. Then horrific pain and crazy...how did you call it, shining??? Horrible gushing blood. I get about a week of fairly good mood and energy to do daily tasks... then crying and struggling to survive for weeks... I’m glad you’ve recoded this....and that you don’t suffer like I do.

The fact that there's still a stigma is nothing short of horrible! So I'm glad you're still talking about them! Really this is something everybody should know, since getting rid of the stigma is everybody's responsibility. Again, great video! Glad you're doing them! And of course, thanks for sharing this!

I loved this video! I loved the topic, and I loved the chatty, conversational nature of it. I've been meaning to watch your old period videos, but haven't gotten around to them yet, so this is the first one of those I've seen. I had horrific periods from the time they started when I was 11. Like, cramps so bad I was laying in the fetal position on the bathroom floor, almost went to the ER a couple times, severe digestive issues that started my IBS, bursts of anger, depression, etc. They were erratic, too. I'd have short ones, long ones. Two in one month, then nothing for four months. I went through all that until I was 17 and a doctor started me on the pill. They were still miserable, but much less so. I'm 34 now, so that was 17 years ago. I've been on hormonal contraceptives almost constantly since. In my twenties I contracted genital herpes. Every time I got my period I'd get an outbreak. Eventually my doctor agreed that I could take pill continuously. Then a couple years ago I got the arm implant, and it worked well for me, so I haven't had a period in years. But now I'm 34 and I have no idea what my adult body feels like naturally. So in a few months I'm planning to have it removed and see how it feels to not be on any hormones. I've got my fingers crossed that'll fix my libido (TMI? I guess not... we are talking about periods, after all). In fact, maybe sex and periods would be a good topic to discuss. Despite the misery, I always used to get horny during them. I think a lot of people are scared to talk about that, especially men.

You are to periods what I am to diet - I put everything I ever feel down to what I’ve eaten, but I never even think about whether things are related to my cycle for some reason. I am trying to tune in a bit more lately though because I was on the pill for years too, and when I came off it I didn’t have periods for years, so only now do I feel like tracking things would be an accurate representation of my ‘real’ cycle. I really think these videos are brilliant, I needed to see this stuff when I was a teenager soooo baddddd! The period shits is something I’ve only recently heard people discuss and I’m so here for that 😅 You’re impulsive phase is brilliant - signing up for uni, class 😂 Maybe a video on all the impulsive things you’ve done in that phase would be funny. Thanks for making these!

  • @ErinsHoose

    @ErinsHoose

    3 жыл бұрын

Yesss! I really do think it's all connected though. I realised that diet probably helps with hormone regulation. But even if it doesn't, a better diet will at least help my mind, which will then give me the motivation to exercise and everything combined will help with hormones. But I still ended up blaming all my emotions on hormones and the fact I'm a pisces 😂 and then once I tidied my diet up a bit and started taking magnesium, I was like OHHHHH. Hahaha that's a brilliant idea 😂 I might have to do that! Thanks for watching :D

I gained such a new insight and appreciation for women when you started the period vlogs. I consider myself a sympathetic, compassionate person, but little did I realize the pain, discomfort, mood/hormone stuff that you often have to deal with. This type of content broke new ground as far as I'm concerned. Not only are you informing and educating, but also being brave in trying to lessen the stigma associated with a natural , unavoidable event. I commented on your first "week in the life of period" and my sentiments haven't , nor will they change. I'll always be interested and eager to learn more. Anyway... I love how you interspersed other things around the main discussion in this video! Your yard looks really cool too. Keep us updated on your football routines :) Also good luck on the horror stories!

I have been meaning to watch this for days and put off watching because I thought it would be upsetting. Now I have seen it I am glad I did and really appreciate your candour. I have had a quick look at the comments and it is good that quite a few men have made quite serious contributions. I haven't followed this channel that long and because of something you said in your video I had a quick google. I found the article in the Daily Record a couple of years ago where some guy decided to troll you, and said that you should be locked up for the things you said. I disagree. My ex caused endless conflict by trying to hide her periods from me. Not all women exhibit physical signs and some women have mood swings which are nothing to do with periods. Talking, and not too much talking, just a little talking and a lot of understanding would have worked wonders. Happy birthday for whenever it is. Is it one of those with a 0 at the end or is it one of the others where a fella who doesn't know puts a 9 at the end?

I mean, right know I am not afraid of removing my pad in a public toilet, I am not afraid of how loud it could be- actually who cares? :P Talking about periods, popping in to shop just to buy some period products are so much less awkward right know. Last year I went hiking on the first day of my period. It was out of a comfort zone and... I survived :P And from your videos (actually it was from the comment section) I got to know that diarrhoea during period is normal and I am not alone. Of course awkward situation can happen but you showed me with your positive attitude that even if you're embarrassed, you can laugh at yourself and don't care too much, cuz after all it's not a big deal. Thank you once again. Have a good day :D

I feel you. I had the same types of periods. Supper long, heavy, moody, what have you. Just before my hysterectomy five years ago it got so bad. I ended up buying one of those diva cups. Best thing I ever did for my periods. I was able measure my flow as well so I could finally talk to my doctors with out them laughing at me and dismissing my period troubles. You see I was loosing over 15 once’s of blood of month and that’s what I caught in the cup minus the over flow from when I’d pull it out or during the heavy moments of my period that would leak out onto the pad. I wish women talked about this more because having supper heavy painful periods not normal. I hated the hormone mood swings too. But once I realized my period was about to come then I’d get into the right mind set. If I had it all to do over I would never had bought tampons or pads. I would go with the diva cups or similar products with natural washable pads. You see they put chemicals into tampons and pads that cause women to bleed longer and more so we have to buy more and more. My periods were so bad like you that it’s just like early labor pains. Also I was severely anemic to the point my blood level (not sure of the right terminology) was around 7. It was bad the doctors were worried about me. I should have been having blood transfusions for years. It affected my body so badly that now I suffer from such bad anxiety that is painful and hurts like stabbing in my heart. No one sees my anxiety and it’s so painful. But I’ve been dealing with pain for so long that I can tolerate a ton of pain. Any way sorry so long. I could go on and on but yeah lol 😂

YES. We're told bad cramps, very heavy periods etc are normal but they're not and can often be a sign of something else going on. It's worrying how little it's taken seriously. I tried a cup for a bit, but it's just not feasible for me during my shifts at work unfortunately, since I work in people's houses. Hi Erin, as I said in my comment i to your "Finding Out how Scottish I am" video, I have only recently found your channel. You have answered so many questions I've had for years about periods and what kind of impact they have on women. I used to wonder if all women were crabbit when on their period or, was it just some? Also, you rather bravely told us about your "The Shining" moment. I wonder if the amount of blood produced varies from woman to woman? I guess everyone is unique and each person's body produces a different amount. Am I right? I feel a bit weird asking about these things but, I'm so glad you are there and willing to engage in the conversation about these things. Periods were always taboo when I was growing up and I was told that it was a very personal and private thing which shouldn't be talked about. (SHOCKING) And, like you, when in school, the boys were taken to a different room and were told about hair growing in places we probably would never expect to see hair. Thank you so much for sharing what you feel comfortable sharing with us. I love your videos, please keep them coming. I feel as though I am finally getting my education when it comes to periods. Do you think it is common for women to be cought out as in unprepared when the "flow" starts and have to deal with the mess on their clothes in public or at work? Apart from panic, what would be the usual thing to do? Panic? Thanks again for your openness Erin, Andy in the Drum

Every person with a period experiences it differently and no two will be exactly the same. As for being caught out, it depends on how regular someone is and whether or not they track their cycle. If they don't track it, they'll likely be caught out if they don't carry pads (or their choice of product) with them. Thanks for watching - and remember, there's no weird questions, ask away :)

My periods are on time every month and always have been. I pretty much know the pattern of hormones like the back of my hand at this point. The week before it starts I get extremely anxious and depressed and irritable and bloated. My boobs swell up really bad and it gets very painful. Nips feel like they are on fire. It seems to progress worse as it gets closer. The couple days before it starts are very very dark mentally. The day before it starts I almost always hold back tears all day and then I will finally break down and cry and that's how I know miss thang will be arriving. And it always does! I also do not regularly have much of a sweet tooth and I normally crave something sweet on the same day that I cry. AND all I want to do is cuddle (I think because of the anxiety). On the crying and eating sweets day, I make sure to have my heating pad and pain med ready because I will be waking up in the middle of the night from excruciating pain from the cramps and will have to race to the bathroom to clean up whatever mess happened. Sometimes I get lucky and beat it.. For some reason, it always shows up in the middle of the night. The first two days are always very heavy and painful but just like your friend I feel 100% better mentally. It's like a release of hormones and all of the sudden you don't feel so low anymore. Also my breast pain disappears completely as soon as I start. The next 3 or 4 days are lighter and not a bother. During ovulation I get extra horny for a few days. I have a week or so of feeling normal and balanced and then back to square one! A question I have for you is what is the update on the period cup? Do you still use that?

I do have nightmares some nights so horrible that I don't talk much about them nor think about them in the morning after i had them. Then i forget them as i wanted them to. I just had a very bad one yesterday. I used to have very bad nightmares in which I feel like frozen and I can't even breathe. I had a very good dream and I always remembered it, because it was a very good dream that i had in a long time. I wrote about it in a writing app and thats how I cherished it. It had a good scene when I was looking into the distance with a deep blue sky and a huge black silhouette of a mountain in front of me and I was sitting there in the base of the mountain with one of my arms going around my girlfriend. She was talking something to her girlfriend sitting next to her and I remember being so happy with her looking into the yonder. A lantern shined from a house which has its silhouette on the top of the hill and i was looking at it with happiness. There is a writer's social media app called Mirakee. I sometimes do write in it. I don't read others posts, because its always so boring or about their negative experiences and it usually affects me but I do occasionally. You might find it good too if you are into writing on mobile.

From the video, I came to the conclusion that men's life is more stable, but at the same time it lacks all those burst of creativity and things you describe as connected to the hormones

Not everybody experiences periods the same way. Other people might not experience that burst of creativity, some might.

I have the implant the one that goes in your arm. It’s my third one but second in a row. I don’t get your typical period. I don’t bleed, and I don’t really ovulate like I do but it’s not something that has a symptom. Other than the moods and hormones. And the worse of it is I have no idea I’m on my period because I don’t bleed. So for like 2/3 weeks I’m an emotional mess full of highs and lows. And the only time I know it’s my period is if my boobs are sore or I have bad cramps

Even though I am a guy, I think people should be more open about periods. After all, they happen to just over half of the population! I have to admit; I am happy being in the other half though. One woman I lived with had fairly intense periods, and the other barely had them at all. I learned it differs for most women, and some can be light, or heavy for no reason at all. It is a subject that few men talk about though (except to make jokes). I can't imagine most of us going through it though!

Maybe you should write a book about periods ?😂😂 but I’d read a short Scottish horror story

I have heard women complain that when they go on birth control pills for there periods they didn't like how they effected them. The pill and other birth control can mess with the bodies hormones' so I can see why there is complaints. Endocrinology in a nutshell is: "Endocrinology is the study of the endocrine system in the human body. This is a system of glands which secrete hormones. Hormones are chemicals that affect the actions of different organ systems in the body. Examples include thyroid hormone, growth hormone, and insulin. The endocrine system involves a number of feedback mechanisms, so that often one hormone (such as thyroid stimulat… Wikipedia · Text under CC-BY-SA license" I don't think every doctor fully understand hormones and how they effect the body, I know the average person doesn't and blames more things on hormones that they effect. I once worked with a cissexual/cisgenders woman that was on a birth control implant that stopped her periods and she had to stop it because it was messing with her body. She would get things like thinning hair and stuff. It always hard choice to make when women are having problems with there periods and sometimes there is no right answers or quick fixes. What I have come to understand is one doctors don't always understand women's heath as much as men's and two they are learning as they go along. Kinda of scary. Thanks for sharing. Hopefully these videos will help others out.

Try writing a romantic comedy. I was going to say romance but I accidentally typed romantic and comedy appeared on it's own so I left it. It's psychic destiny, period. Try it, and you could have fun.

Try reading Clive Baxter instead of Clive Barker. I'm not a reader myself, but his work on plant consciousness is fascinating.

You are still during periods at 29 years old. I thought you normally stopped around 18 for a woman. Women stop growing at 18 and men stop growing at 21.

Love that you're ending the stigma and talking so openly about your period. So refreshing to see thank you for that!!! If you're interested in the hormones and haven't yet - check out the book "In The Flo" by Alissa Vitti - changed my life! So good! Cheers xo
