Rule of thumb, horsepower is the last thing you should upgrade. By far the biggest improvement in fun and laptimes come from handling upgrades. Especially tires and suspension, in the case of laptimes sometimes wings/Spoilers/splitters. This is a bit tricky but removing weight also helps. Significant weight reductions however can be pricy and remove safety/comfort features. But for a track car they make sense.

  • @pravinlucasofficial8149
    @pravinlucasofficial81496 жыл бұрын

i found that the biggest bang(performance factor) for buck upgrades are, tires, brake pads, anti roll bars, suspension (handling). Weight reduction, Final drive upgrade, exhaust (power). couple these with good engine oil, spark plugs. get used to how the car feels now first. After some time, progress into horsepower enhancement, with intake upgrades, engine upgrades, a tune with an ECU. But TAKE THINGS SLOW, as once u give your car in for tuning, there will be some new headaches.. which u may not want. because with the cost of secondary mods, you may end up ruining the car, with a hole in your pocket! So enjoy being a car enthusiast! but control the expense!

If you are going to mod your engine. Start with the ECU. Put in a tune able ECU with preformance read outs. That way when you want to slap on new intake manifolds and turbos you can adjust how the engine runs making the car run reliably with mods and getting the most out of your mods.

@@Smack_2 Not necessarily. The Subaru he mentioned already has front and rear sways. And they... like most sway bars from the factory, ARE SET UP TO BE UNDERSTEER BIASED. Let me repeat myself just in case you heard wrong The car is set up to understeer with the factory sway bars and alignment. Ie: unbalanced. Intentionally. By the people that designed the thing. commonly - they put a fat front sway on a car and run a smaller rear. So it is with WRXs and STIs By JUST replacing the rear bar and end links with something stiffer than stock you pretty much transform the handling bias of the car. You go from understeering pig to neutral or mild oversteer. Futher refinements can be had by doing a performance alignment. It is one of the best bang for buck handling mods one can do to a WRX or STI. Stiffer rear sway, with top quality end links. The Front sway is fine (maybe do the end links, just because) unless you are a track rat... But rear stock sway is a damn noodle on most generations of wrx/sti

Maybe a little lighter but I drove a car that was a super light flywheel and you had to rev it way out to start or else you would stall out. Now I’m used to trucks so I guess you get used to 3500 rpm starts but I much prefer 1000 rpm starts in my truck for daily traffic

I replaced the original fuel filter on my 1981 Honda Civic with one that wasn't absolutely disgusting and filled with nasty stuff from over the years and I felt a tremendous increase in acceleration and also saw my mpg go up as well. New CV joints helped the little car turn much better too. New tie rods and brake discs made it not feel like you were gonna die when I braked. New tires that weren't from the early 90s and dry rotted made my car handle better and feel faster and safer although they are too wide but they were the only 13 inch tires I could find at the time. I had all the fluids flushed out and replaced with new fluids like the 3rd day I had the car. New engine mount also. I recently re-adjusted the accelerator cable because I had a good inch and a half of play before it even gave the car gas but now it feels much better. Basically I've just done maintenance that the past owners haven't and I am not engine swapping it or lowering it like other people want me to do for some reason.

Cold air intakes work and will increase hp dramatically on large displacement engines *let's say 6.2 chevy truck and lt1-lt4 motors as well as 5.0's* I've seen someone gain 20 wheel hp on a new silverado on the dyno from just a cold air intake. Those were back to back runs, same climate and only an hour apart.

LSX_ moe I don't think he's talking about those type of engines. I think he is talking about people who are new to it all and maybe just bought a let's say e36

e36 also gains from cold air, even smart gains from cold air if u do it propertly.... I dont talk about a cone air filter but cold air intake, like a "demon"

Streetspeed? And yeah I agree cold air intakes are not a waste. 10 to 20 more hp and is a good 1st mod you can do yourself.

LSX_ moe however it can trigger the engine check light, you wont be running an optimal ecu tune unless it comes with it or you do a dino test

Ill bite. I had an LS3. I put in a BTR stage 3 cam, upped the valvetrain components and put on LT headers. Significant gain on the dyno. Later, I put on a cold air intake and a "rod mod" to the intake manifold. Got it retuned and back on the dyno. No peak gain, tiny low end gain. I'll also include that the cold air intake that I put on actually had a housing that required me to relocate my windshield washer reservoir so that I can put on a metal "scoop" in its place just to push air from the front bumper onto the intake, effectively making it a RAM air intake. Rod Mod to IM - 300 Cold air intake - 400 Waste of 700 + 300 for a tune and dyno.

All jokes aside , I’m surprised he didn’t mention a tune .. granted a tune really o my works on cars with some kind of forced induction (turbo .. supercharger).. but in my experience with both .. I found a cold air intake is a great start ! It’s not terribly expensive and you really notice quicker response from the engine and a slight power gain followed by better fuel economy . Enough to where you’ll be seeing good fuel economy even when you drive the car hard. .. in most situations you NEED a cold air intake in order to support certain mods. Such as headers .. a tune .. or Ext. Car culture is car culture .. opinions aside the love for Cars is universal . Regardless of what you drive !

lxp3lxp3 any gains from a cold air intake are at high RPM, which you won’t be at on the street much. So yeah, he’s right, they’re a waste of money. I’d rather invest that money in headers, or suspension components.

Pretty much if you drive a Subaru and want to go stage 2 or higher is when the intake would be useful, combining it with a custom tune, exhaust, injectors, fuel pump, etc, it gets costly for all that but that’s when it’s worth having an intake. And besides, if you don’t even have any other mods it still sounds wicked awesome, like having a freaking hurricane under your hood.

Lol I love the sense of opinion ! But remember THE LOVE FOR CARS IS UNIVERSAL . Regardless of what you drive ! I personally had a matte gray Veloster turbo that I tuned and did a bunch of shit too.. and now I have a VW R32 that is also slightly modified so I’m boast toward hatchbacks and stuff .. but that’s what I love ! I also sell cars at Carmax .. and it’s taught me that All cars are cool lol just to different people :)

I got gains off my IE CAI for my mk6 gti in the mid-high rpm range. Plus whoosh with no bov is so lovely. I think Tony was talking in generalities tbh; most cars people tune are 90s and didn't come stock turbo like 240sx (ka24, were talking state side atm), integras, vr6 gtis (r32/mk4 gti) etc. So the CAI isn't going to be a big of an improvement on those over a car that 1) has forced induction 2) the ecu can adjust to the increased air flow (though as OP states, tunes can help with this and a CAI is generally needed for anything stage 2 or above)

Monark fuel injector nozzles and my big brake booster and big front sway bar so far are my favorite mods. Oh and my oil temp gauge! The superturbo really does show how capable a mercedes diesel can be as well. 300D's are the perfect universal auto.

I remember getting literally the same improvement in my stock vehicle by simply removing an air silencer and opening up the inlet at the grille of my escape instead of adding a cold air intake/ open free flow filter and aftermarket tube combo w/ heat shielding
