A NEWER VERSION OF THIS SKILL CAN BE FOUND HERE: • Catheter Care CNA Skil...
THIS IS AN OLDER VERSION OF THIS SKILL. View how this skill should look when performing for the Florida CNA State Exam. View to proper way to clean a catheter and the skin surrounding the catheter, as well as viewing how to properly clean and store your supplies. This skill requires comprehension of infection control procedures to reduce the possibility of bacterial infection resulting in a urinary tract infection for the patient. Catheter safety is also demonstrated. This skill is one of the 21 testable skills on the Florida State CNA exam and is also used in RN and LPN training. I saw a few errors. Not using proper body mechanics, Not really patting dry. The bed should be at the CNA's waist not at the lowest position possible. You shouldn't be bending over that will strain your back.
I passed my Florida CNA exam yesterday Ms. Patty!!!! I cannot tell you how excited I am! THANK YOU for your instructional videos! If it weren't for these, I most certainly wouldn't have passed!
Is it me or did anyone else notice that she didn't check the pt. arm band and the everything else that is wrong follows.
What is your favorite color
Why did the CNA turn the patient away from her, especially without any restraint to prevent a possible fall? Always turn the patient towards you especially if you are working alone.
You may raise the bed up to a comfortable height, but it is not required. If you do raise the bed to a comfortable height, you MUST lower it to the lowest position at the end of the skill or you may fail because an elevated bed is a safety risk. Raising the bed to a comfortable height is optional for the skill (not a graded point) because not every bed in healthcare is adjustable (think home care and assisted living - regular beds). Good luck.
I am sorry, I do not speak Spanish. If you have a question regarding the skills, please post in English and I will answer it. Good luck!
Remember to always hand them the call light and check if the bed breaks are in check before starting the procedure especially involving the Privacy which she was correct on out of all I enjoyed watching this( and remember to check if the bed is in a low safe position)
This is supposed to be an INSTRUCTIONAL video, there is nothing wrong with her explaining the procedure with every step by step she is performing. I'm happy she is doing SO much talking, (as you say) it will help me remember the steps when I take my exam! Also, Ms. Patty is right in saying not knowing what a complete stranger is doing with your genitals is creepy. Talking to them relieves any anxiety.
Cleaning the inside of the labia is important, but cleaning the labia majora (outer portion) and skin folds will help decrease microbial contamination and can help lower the risk of infection. Patients with catheters have a higher risk of urinary tract infections and it is vital that the catheter and surrounding areas be kept clean. Since catheter care is often the only "personal care" regarding the peri area that the patient receives, all of that area should be cleaned for comfort. Thanks.
I passed my state exam in Florida today because of your videos. Thank you!
I am scheduled to take my exam in just 2 days and I am currently watching your videos religiously. I'm very grateful for how thorough and informative you are.
