    ROUTER * WiFi 6 router preferred. * Separate the 5 Ghz and 2.4Ghz WiFi. Pico 4 will use the 5Ghz network. Turn off 5Ghz from your home network if possible. * Set the router to the best channel (use the WifiAnalyzer app to look for the least congested channel). * WiFi Mode: - WiFi 6 router: 11ac/ax - WiFi 5 router: 11 a/n/ac * Bandwidth: 80MHz (Pico 4 cannot use 160 MHz) * Network mode: Access Point Tip: Keep the WiFi router as close to your Pico 4 as possible. STREAMING * Bitrate: 75-100 Mbps (Not much difference between 100 and 150) * SSW: Off * Video buffering: Off (if lots of frame drops, turn on) SETTINGS * Environment Quality: Low * Frame Rate: 60 FPS * Desktop bitrate: 30 Mbps PERFORMANCE OVERLAY Game: Time taken for your PC to generate the image Encoding: Time taken to compress the image Networking: Time taken from your PC to your headset Decoding: Time taken to uncompress the image Tip: Click both thumb-sticks at the same time to view the overlay Tip: Test different quality settings and in-game quality settings to get the right balance between performance and quality.

    I don't feel like I truly need less latency, but I'll play around with the settings a bit. If I could turn down bitrate to 100 and fix things up a bit by changing a few settings, it could make for a nice improvement. Turning in some games does feel a bit off, so perhaps this may fix that issue (it's not a dealbreaker, just very slight).

    I hope this guide helps. I haven't used a shadow pc myself, but I would recommend trying it with the bitrate set to about 50Mbps, and graphics settings turned down, then monitor the latency, and increase the settings bit by bit. If you are online gaming with other I wouldn't recommend the latency being any higher than around 45ms, the lower the better, but if playing a game just on your own then I find it okay up to a maximum of around 60ms. Hope you get it working okay for you👍

  • @DayDreamerVR

    So you would need to plug your new dedicated router into your pc with an ethernet cable, and connect your Quest 3 to the 5ghz band of that new dedicated router. Then connect your old router which has internet into your new router by ethernet cable to provide Internet to your dedicated router. Your new router would be best to be setup as an access point. Hope that helps 👍 this image is a good example smartglasseshub.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/virtual-desktop-separate-router-setup.jpg

    My main house router is in an office away from the bedrooms that have Quest 3's. I want to have a dedicated router for virtual desktop for each bedroom, does the dedicated router need to be plugged into the main house router? I would not be able to plug the bedroom PC's into the dedicated router via Ethernet if so, it would be too far away. What's the best solution here?

  • @DayDreamerVR

    @DayDreamerVR

    6 ай бұрын

    It all depends on what games you are playing, if you are playing offline games then you don't need to connect your dedicated routers to your main router with ethernet, but you would need to connect your PC to your VR router with an ethernet cable. If you are playing online multilayer type games then it is best to connect your vr dedicated router to your main router with an ethernet cable, as well as an ethernet cable to your PC. If you don't connect your VR dedicated routers to your main router with ethernet, then they would need to be setup so they use WiFi to connect to your main router. Hopefully I've understood correctly, and hope you find a solution 👍

    Question, I have my pc connected to wifi, and my room has no ethernet ports. I am currently using virtual desktop to run games like gorilla tag on steam vr. When in virtual desktop, it does warn me that performance will suffer due to not having an ethernet cable plugged in. Can you give me some good choices for a router and how to go about connecting it to my pc via ethernet, and have steam vr lag less?

    Hi, so whatever router you get, it will be best to set it up as an extender - or you might even get away with just getting a wifi extender that has an ethernet port for your PC. Virtual desktop recommends the following routers: Sole/Upgrade (AX) - Asus RT-AX86U ($300 US) Dedicated (AXE - Wifi 6e *) - TP-Link AXE5400/AXE75 ($160-$200) Dedicated (AX) - Netgear WAX202 ($60 US) Portable (AC) - Opal GL-SFT1200 ($50 US) Dedicated (AC) - TP-Link Archer C6 or A6 ($40 US) Hope that helps 👍

So far both airlink and steam link have been terrible experiences. they caused bad performance and constantly crashed while playing. VD has been much more stable, however i don't feel like i'm having 72fps while playing. • @DayDreamerVR

    Have you had a look at fpsvr? I would get that app on steam, and run it when using Steamvr through Virtual desktop. I would put synchronous space warp always on, and probably keep the resolution setting as low as it goes in in virtual desktop to start. Then go into steamvr, bring up the fpsvr overlay, and check what the cpu and gpu usage is. Bring up the virtual desktop performance overlay, and check all of the frame times and latency. If everything is showing as running well and keeping 36/72fps (it might show 36 due to having synchronous spacewarp (ssw)/reprojection on) try and launch your game, then monitor cpu and gpu usage, and if you get a bad experience or if the cpu/gpu usage and frame times are too high, then reduce all settings and try again. 1650s might struggle with VR, but with ssw on, and settings low you might have a chance. Hope you manage to get it running smoother 👍

With those numbers what is the overall latency? Do you experience stuttering or delay when gaming? The network latency seems good, so the only way to reduce latency further would be to reduce the resolution or in game settings, but those numbers do look okay, unless you are experience stuttering etc. Just odd the overall latency was up to 90ms-would be good to know what the numbers are when it fluctuates that high/higher than 50ms
