Hi Mam. I will be giving my first attempt in 2025. I haven’t yet come across the supreme court chapter yet tried answering it after watching this video . This is my first answer writing please guide if there are any mistakes. Introduction: In India the Supreme Court is established as the final court of appeal. It was inaugurated on jan 28 1950. Articles 124 to 147 in part V of the Constitution deal with the organisation, independence, Jurisdiction Powers, procedures and role of the Supreme Court. Role and Powers of Supreme Court: The Supreme Court has Advisory and Supervisory powers. 1. It has the original jurisdiction to decide the disputes between different units of federation. 2. It is empowered to issue writs for the enforcement of fundamental rights of an aggrieved citizen when the rights are violated. 3. It hears the appeals against the judgement of high court in cases of Civil matters , constitutional matters, criminal matters and matters by special leave. 4. It acts as an advisory body to president as mentioned under article 143 in cases of a. Any question of law or fact of public importance. b. On any dispute arising out of any pre constitution act. 5. The judgements , proceedings and acts of Supreme Court are recognised as legal precedents and are to be admitted as evidentiary value. It also has the power to contempt itself and the lower courts under the contempt of courts act 1971. 6. The power of judicial review enables it to examine the constitutionality of legislative enactments and executive orders of both central and state govts. 7. It has the power to review any judgement pronounced or order made by it . 8. It interprets the provision of constitution through various doctrines. Conclusion : The Supreme Court acting as the ultimate interpreter guards and defends the fundamental rights of the citizens according to the procedure established by law.
