You signal right in the middle of the road, so they know you're going to park. Then you stop, and when you put the car in reverse, your reverse lights are no. So people know they have advantage to go around you. They will honk if they need you to stop moving, so they can pass around you. They will not honk if they are just waiting. Nobody is a suicidal maniac. :D

Its good that people give you time to park where I live they actively drive right up the back of you to try and stop you parking or drive past you at speed just about missing the car meaning you have to stop reversing into the space while they speed past to try and avoid any contact.

Easier solution, just see "If the mirrors of your car coincides with the mirror of the other car, then rotate th steering wheel to hard right then go reverse till you see the car in your mirrors behind you"

There is no "solution" in real life. Always be prepared that your calculation might fail and keep checking the mirrors. Every vehicle is different, what you are saying is true only when the dimension of your vehicle and the vehicle you are aligning yourself to is almost identical.

Is there any reason to not parallel park forwards? I do it like that all the time, I just find it quicker, easier, and less intrusive to the drivers behind me when I drive in forwards.

Practicality & habits : Parellel park forwards needs wider space, since you move with the turning wheels first and not last (wider lever), meaning that you'll struggle to do it in tight spaces. Hence why driving instructors teach it backwards. And since most people learn to do it backwards and barely practice it forwards, it increases the gap in skill. Also, practicality again : if you fail your maneuver, it's easier to get out of the spot going forward (parking backwards) than he opposite.
