In some versions she was raped by Poseidon in Athena's temple.

The scene where Annabeth buys candy is actually a subtle thing. All demigods are dyslexic. She was trying to read the flavors but couldn't so she just grabbed some of everything. It's a variation on a scene in the book where Percy notices that no matter h ow smart Annabeth is, she struggles with the same things that he does.

It's literally what I thought as well. I was wondering how they were gonna cut a head in a PG rated show and I was pleasantly surprised but it def was very effective.

Honestly, it's an effective idea. It would have taken her by surprise because she wouldn't have had time to realize she was invisible and suddenly Percy is looking right at her. I think it would have been enough to make her hesitate

What I like about the characters is that they all bounce off each other so well. Percy is cynical of the gods because he’s new to being a demigod and hasn’t had any pleasant experiences so far. Annabeth is the opposite because she’s been at camp since she was 7, and she’s indoctrinated into the culture of respecting and being obligated to the gods no matter what. Grover has his own journey that you’ll see soon.

I like how there are scenes in this show that don’t happen in the book at all, but still make sense for the story. It’s not just a copying of the books dialogue into the script, they’ve really put thought into making it different yet endearingly familiar.

The problem with adapting books is keeping the same energy as the originals with the new scenes and they have perfected it here!!! The new parts still feel like they are a natural part of the universe and make sense within the story

Medusa has become a real beacon for SA survivors and I’m glad they sort of incorporated that while keeping it a kids show

Medusa's backstory in the jackson universe drew inspiration from the Ovin telling of Medusa's tale, except it was a lot darker in terms of how the deed was done. Rick made some changes to make it more kid friendly, but that is one of the main interpretations of Medusa's creation

@@ChainsawReacts Yeah, there are two versions of the myth of Medusa's creation that I know of. In one, the one Rick Riordan used for obvious reasons (trying to make the Olympians not as terrible by modern sensibilities as the other version), Medusa was a priestess of Athena. One day, Poseidon saw her, and seduced her. Then Athena (one of the three major Greek goddesses who has sworn an oath to maintain her virginity) caught the two of them intimate in her temple. Needless to say, she wasn't happy, so she cursed Medusa for disrespecting her, turning her into the gorgon of myth. In the other version, and the version that's probably more accurate to how the gods of Greek myth usually behaved, Poseidon never gave Medusa any say in the matter, instead he simply used force. Athena caught Poseidon in the act, and cursed Medusa for her "disrespect," as if she were a willing participant. One thing to remember about the Greek deities is that they're almost all petty to horrific degrees. From the Greek gods seeing everything as a potential outlet for their lusts, in as many depraved forms as they could imagine (seriously, according to some myths? If a god had been interested in Thalia, Zeus turning her into a tree wouldn't have protected her from their advances), to the goddesses vindictively punishing mortals for anything they could come up with, or constantly blaming the gods victims for being victims and punishing them, the Greek pantheon was just a horrific mess. And most of the heroes were just as bad, if not worse. Not all of them (there's a reason Perseus of myth was one of the few heroes to get a happy ending. He was just a genuinely good and loyal person), but so many of them were all about their own pride, glory, or pleasure to the detriment of all around them.

I've always had sympathy for Medusa. They turned her into a monster, then acted like they had no responsibility. Especially Poseiden 👀👀👀. I got questions for you...

@@Victoria.Henderson Oh, Poseidon is definitely responsible, but Athena deserves just as much derision. She either punished someone for being seduced by Poseidon in her temple, or she punished someone for being a victim of Poseidon in her temple. Either way, it doesn't reflect well on her wisdom.

@R0ary Totally agree with you. I just hate the fact that his part is usually glanced over. Even here. I know it's for kids...But it's still sad that blame isn't equal. It's always Athena cursed her; when it should be Poseidon led to her being cursed. Jmho 🙂

In the book it is said that some of the children at the camp return home at certain times of the year, staying with their families. they don't stay there always. so they are there learning to defend themselves in the real world.

I already mentioned in the first reaction that I love it when people have no previous knowledge or exposure to the source material. It makes watching reactions so much better in my honest opinion. At least I love watching people make assumptions and being like "Haha lol you're in for a wild ride!" 😂 I don't know what that says about me lol. Another amazing reaction though. I'm almost as giddy watching them as I am when it comes to watching them myself. This episode felt so short to me, maybe bc we only got one episode and not two like last week. Or maybe it's because I know the book and the chapter and how long it is in it. Either way, looking forward to future reactions to come ☺️ Also, we're finally getting Per'sassy' Jackson scenes!

i agree with how its so much better to watch reactors who have no idea about the books purely bc they arent trying to compare every little scene to the books which leads to them not paying attention to the actual show and wondering why they think it's "bad"

Agree! I've watched almost all reactors reacting to the show and I found out that book fans tend to be more annoying because they always keep bring stuff up from the books. Which is valid because it is an adaptation but sometimes it can get in the way of enjoying the show for what it is. Plus, we're only on episode 3 I think judging it of it's proper adaptation or not is unfair. Atleast wait for the whole show to be out.

There are a few versions of Medusa myth. However, the version that is in the book/show is basically that but much darker; you have to remember this have go through 2 separate filter already, Riordan’s book filter and then Disney filter. This version of the myth is that Medusa was a beautiful priestess of Athena, who was rape by Poseidon in the Temple of Athena. This enraged Athena, so she cursed Medusa into what she was. Another version is that Medusa was a beautiful maiden who got seduce by Poseidon, and they have sex in the Temple of Athena, so she cursed her. Either way Medusa myth is alway involved her being wrong by both Poseidon and Athena. So basically, both in the myth and the book, the Olympians are terrible being; but there are much worse are out there

Btw, the elevator scene with the guy pressing the 600th floor button? That’s Hermes, Luke’s father, and the god of messengers, travel, and other things.

Great video, great reaction and great series. Unlike some people here on KZread, this series was what Disney Plus needed to get back on its feet and bring good news beyond Star Wars or Marvel. The chemistry of the cast is great, the changes are good and I can't wait to watch more episodes

@@ashhabimran239 I was already seeing the signs that he was that type of KZreadr when he made a tribute video to Matthew Perry from Friends, and in the middle of the video paying homage to someone who left us and was very loved, he said that "there are people who think that Friends should stop being consumed" and that "people get offended very easily nowadays" I should have already noticed these signs but I was stubborn and now I saw his true side, a disgusting side of him

The reason they have the camp isn’t just to train and learn their abilities, it’s also the one safe place for Demi-gods during the summer since they attract monsters with their scent

7:32 it’s been pg censored, but it’s roughly what happened, they had sex inside a temple to Athena, and she got offended, some say Medusa was praying for help, some say she was into it. No one really has a stricken answer because of the nature of the source.

​@@ChainsawReacts That's understandable!! I personally love the camp concept. I think it makes sense from the human excuse perspective as well. These kids spend their summers there learning how to navigate the world as demigods (and a minority live there permanently). I can imagine a conversation like this taking place: - Dude, why doesn't [kid from school] ever hang out with us during summer break? 😔🙄 - Idk man, he always goes to this random camp out of state 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

episode 3 is my fave so far and I agree the portrayal of Medusa is great. the way they told her story here was so good. I even like this version than the book. But still love the books though 😅.

The Furies are immoral, and they can't be killed permanently. The immoral beings in the series will come back to life after death (the process time is unknown), unless they get forgotten.

Yeah they regenerate in Tartarus. Some like the Furies, who serve as the servants of Hades, come back really quickly. Medusa has yet to reform, at least by the events of the 5th book which takes place 4 years later. The Minotaur reforms and he is in that book too, but Percy just kills him again and he's yet to return a third time.

I think her story was true and that she became evil afterwards. They also didn’t bring it up again after the reveal so I’m leaning towards her version being the correct one.

I'm in love with Jessica's version of Medusa. She's so fascinating! You know, it's interesting what you say about laying the traitor allegations out on the table. I was surprised about that too. I'm a book reader, and there was no scene like that in the books. Percy kept his worries about the prophecy close to his chest the whole time. Even after the quest is over, we never got a scene of him telling anyone about the final lines of the prophecy. Which makes sense, but I'm really pleased about the change in direction for the show. Seeing them lay out their issues all at once was so refreshing. I like that they can be honest with each other and move forward instead of staying standoffish and distrustful. To be fair, the show's version of these characters is more sus than the book's, where they meshed as a group better without need for a scene like this. But regardless, I think the change was for the better. Just like Medusa by the way -- in the book, she was just a villain, nothing more. They really are taking this already iconic and impactful story and elevating it even higher. What a blessing.

I can't wait for Grover's reed pipes!

medusa is a morally grey character. she is a victim? yes. but she is also not good (she litterally want to kill 2 kids and kill a lot of people). its a great way to show how kind percy is to believe her but as soon she threatens his friends he protect them

i really love this cast. i liked them before but i’m so surprised by the chemistry here. especially between percy and annabeth, which is perfect for this series. i’m also really loving walker’s (percy) performance. he is a great actor.

@@ChainsawReacts I don't know if it came across very well in the first two episodes but the camp is a refuge that shields them from the dangers of the outside world. Mythic monsters will prey on any demigod children that aren't strong enough to defend themselves.

Alecto is her name. The showrunner kind of indicated that wasn't the last of Medusa, or at the very least, her story resonates down the line. Because, those were the facts and chain of events in the myth, it just depends on who tells the story. And prophecies are sketchy, I have always had this theory its why the Oracle appears as Gabe to Percy because the Oracle wants them to view the prophecy skeptically.

That's the only time where the Oracle appears to Percy like that. On other occasions, she just creepily gives the prophecy as herself. As for Medusa, she doesn't appear again, as far as I can tell she has yet to reform. But Percy encounters and fights her son Chrysayor in one of the later books, Pegasus' twin brother. They were born when the original Perseus killed her.

As you meet more monsters you start to learn the gods are pretty shitty mfers man, Medusa IS a monster who does turn people to stone whenever people come thru but only because that’s what the gods did to her when it was really poseidons fault and Athena was in the wrong here
