Finally got a chance to see Mr. Sledge in person in Fayetteville, NC. I believe he was 74 years old & had picture made with him . RIP Percy Sledge .

Love these folks. Met them 5 times. So much fun. He ask.me if Rosa could set at our table. Well yes was the answer. Then every time we went to see him we sat up front. And she sat we us. And on our 39th anniversary he sang when a man loves a women just for us. It was thd last song he sang at all his concerts. And he call us out my name Rita And Danny.what s true gentlemen his was. Miss him.

Me and my two other friends in our teens used yo go at the Radio station in our town and ask them to play his songs when he was popular. We'd go crazy when his song are played.

One of the first ( black) American performers singers I ever heard while growing up in apartheid South Africa. When we came to America.. I would play (and know) every one of his songs. My mom had all his albums. His voice is engraved in my memories. Thanks for the memories Mr. Sledge. RIP 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 -Duke 🇺🇸🇿🇦

Yep! It's really a shame how this man - one of the greatest *natural tenor* (no falsetto) soul balladeer of all time - was so underrated by his peers. No Grammy (not even a nomination) no Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The only known singer to attend his funeral was Dorothy Moore. RIP Percy. You will always be a legend to your fans.

Sledge was elected to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005. In 1993, the Alabama Music Hall of Fame gave him the Lifework Award. In 1994, he released the album "Blue Night", which featured musicians such as Steve Cropper and Mick Taylor. The album was nominated for a Grammy Award and won the WC Handy Award.

I met Percy and have an autographed photo of he and his wife. A short meeting but one I will not forget. He was a loving and wonderful person.

well I was there that night and he sounds great to bad some of you dont like it ! He is still great no matter the quality , he will always be great !

Age has nothing to do with great music. I'm 33 and I've loved Percy Sledge since I was a small child. He was always so underrated. Great and unique voice. He had an amazing way to tell a story through a song and make you feel everything he felt.

When I first heard his song, ”When a man loves a woman”, I was just shocked by how great the vibration was, it was also the first time in my life when I heard that vocal technique - screaming but singing at the same time.. Since then I’ve enjoyed his songs a whole lot))

I remember sitting in a small diner when I was 15 years old the first time I heard him sing When A Man Loves A Woman. We burned a needle through that record on the jukebox every time we got a dime. I've listened to him ever since. The voice of Southern Soul. He made his mark on music in an era when the music world was ruled by British Rockers, quite an accomplishment for the time. R.I.P. and thanks for the great music.

Updated News: It is with great sadness that we must say goodbye to a true soul legend, a humble family man, and a beautiful human being. 'The King of Slow Soul,".Percy Sledge passed away peacefully early this morning at his home in Baton Rouge Louisiana surrounded by his wife Rosa and their children after a long battle with cancer. Just short of his 75th birthday this November, Percy rose to international stardom in the early 60's when people around the world first heard his unmistakable voice on the timeless hit "When A Man Loves A Woman" and won the hearts of millions. Since then he continued to record numerous albums and perform for his legions of fans around the globe until early last year. The Sledge Family wishes to convey they are truly greatful for all the love and support from all his fans and friends. Funeral arrangements are in progress.
