Pepper is what they've made. All songs ever made and performed and listened to by fans. They cannot be defined as just reggae. Yes, they have a strong island reggae influence as do most bands from Hawaii. Of course they have been recording in LA; but what other fans see as an uncomfortable change in sound progressing through their albums, outside their "normal" sound, I see this as connecting more solidly with their entire fan base, and a great accomplishment. What's better is they have done it modestly. Coming to LA made them connected to mainland fans and cheers to them for making efforts to connect with those fans. I believe this did not change who they are as a band, now becoming a career band. As I said before they cannot be defined as reggae, but a closer definition would be island-influenced punk rock band with a hint of ska who have pushed boundaries with their sexually-oriented lyrics making listeners more comfortable to listening to those lyrics more each time you hear it - pushing boundaries, period. This is why they have connected so well with not only masculine audiences, but feminine audiences as well. Partying, good times, whether on a beach or by a country bonfire, and sex, all of these things all bring people together, and make you feel great, they are a feel good and have a nice time kind of band, with island roots that now are deeply set in mainland states also now their style transcends boundaries and cannot be contained by borders or defined in one word, other than aaesome.! Even Sublime had more punky roots which mellowed out, but they still had "hard" songs too. I put Pepper in the same boat as them without a doubt. It's more like evolution and blossoming as opposed to others views that they have conformed or "sold out.". You can hear the evolution from Kona Town, to No Shame. From No Shame, to their Self-Titled album. They grew up. Kids to men. Did you not want them to grow up and mature? If you are a Blink fan, would you want all the band members to have plastic surgery so they stay looking like kids so it still feels like the way you remember? Would you want them to forcibly not mature? Not progress as a band? Curb their lyrics they want to write to please E Ore friends who are butt hurt because they want to hear the same lyrics over and over and never hear songs that sound like anything else but past songs? What would be the point of that? So to recap, I do not think they have changed they are still that feel good band they always have been. If you got off the bus at Kona Town that's fine you don't have to listen to the newer albums. For me, their chosen self-titled album was beautiful as they remained true to themselves while at the same time being unafraid to spread their wings and connect with their "country" and electronic dance side. Every song on that album is great. They then release Ohana, which amazingly kept the same evolved feel good sound from the previous album, while at the same time humbly returning to their home town feel and paying tribute to their roots and their family. To me, they have come full circle as a band, and their last two albums really connected with me, I've always been a fan through all of their albums, but I can now say without a doubt that they are the band that I enjoy listening to the most; and I eagerly await listening to any future albums. Peace to all!

I personally think their new albums are great. sure it's no kona town but it's still pepper and it's still better than most of the garbage on the radio.

I personally hate their new musical direction, they've really lost who they are as a band, and now they sound just like all the over produced pop garbage on the radio. KEEP POP OUT OF REGGAE!
