Pepper's Ghost in a Hearse

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

The Pepper's ghost illusion is one of world's earliest illusions, based on the reflection of an image from a transparent surface such as glass, plexiglass or even heat-shrinkable window film. My goal was to use the technique to create the image of a ghost inside a prop Halloween hearse. I had intended to use inexpensive window film as the reflective surface but chickened out and replaced it with sturdier--and vastly more expensive--plexiglass.

This has given me an idea for my patio! I live in a second floor condo. Thought about using the ole projector but I think this would work much better!

I had a house in California that had this huge front window. For Halloween I used to set up scenes in the front room besides decorating outside. I forget what they are called but one of the little pieces of wood that went across the window was the perfect place to lean the plexiglass on. I had a piece that was large enough to fit the length of the window so it was virtually invisible outside the window. (Back when plexi was actually kind of affordable. *sigh*) Flat screens weren't out yet so I had to use a regular tv. At the time I had these glass topped brass end tables. I would take the glass off and that tv would sit perfectly cradled within the table. All the neighborhood kids really seemed to enjoy it. Thank you for your video. I hope you'll put out an updated one when you get your custom animation done. The hearse is beautifully done. Where in the world did you ever find the horse skeleton? Such a cool effect. You are very talented. 😊

Thanks. Placed it right beside where the line forms for the kids to get their treats, thinking that they would see the ghosts as they waited. But, they were so focused on the candy that most of them never saw the illusion. Next year: New video and better location.

Your hearse project just turned out beautiful. Your imagination and craftsmanship came together and created another incredible piece for your display. And yep there’s always next year for those projects that we don’t get finished. I had one that I rushed to get it out into the display and never got the look that I wanted for it so it will be back on the bench to work on plus another one that I didn’t ever get around to and then I already have my marching orders for projects that I want to accomplish for next year. My display stays up all of October and I always take the time before it gets to the end of it that I walked the display to see what my weaknesses are and what I think I can accomplish and come up with a plan. 🎃

Sometimes it feels like a curse to keep getting new ideas. Best of luck on your projects.
