Bent made a great point about distinguishing between manager and coach. Sir Alex’s man management was incredible but Pep is far and away the better coach. A lot of people forget Sir Alex was not coaching United for many years before his retirement. He had taken on more of a general manager role and outsourced the actual coaching to his staff. Which was very smart on his part. But Pep blows Sir Alex out of the water when it comes to coaching every day of the week.

They won't say that he promoted 13-15 players from Barca B when he took over. They won't say that he started around 8 players from the academy to win leagues, cups and 2 CL. But when Fergie got the talents from their Class of 92, then people say that he built the team as if those players were mediocre and he coached them to become better. Pep bringing La Masia players after players into the first team is looked at him being "lucky" to have a squad like that.

Ferguson arrived in 1986, Man Utd's last title was in 1967, so how does that make it 25 years? Also, under Ron Atkinson, they won 2 FA cups, so it wasn't like they went trophyless for decades. Ferguson took 3 1/2 years to win his first FA cup, 6 1/2 to win the first title. It also coincided with the beginning of the PL, and Sky TV (who owned 10% of the club) made them the poster boys, giving them more TV money than anyone else. It is not cut and dried at all. Also, Aberdeen never won the European Cup. It was the Cup Winners Cup. A total lie to claim otherwise. Pep has won 12 titles, 3 CLs , 6 domestic cups and 4 league cups in 15 seasons of management. If the guy manages until he is 60, he will be miles ahead of anyone. Ferguson was a great manager, one of the best ever. Pep is the greatest the game has ever seen.

Pep's never had a challenge, he managed the best team ever and the best player ever and dominated, when any manager would have. Luis Enrique had managed 82 senior games before joining Barca but once he joined Barca he won the treble in his first season with a worse team than what Pep had...Enrique also had a 4% higher win rate than Pep did whilst managing Barcelona and managed only 70 games less than Pep... He then went to Bayern who win the league as a given almost every year and didn't win the Champions League... And then to City who were already the best team in the league with unlimited money...who were winning leagues before he came with the best squad and who had been continually developing their squad since 2008... Pep's a great manager but he isn't on Fergies level... I would argue Klopp is a better manager than Pep what he turned Liverpool into is a bigger achievement than what Pep has done with City. Jose won the CL with Porto the treble with Inter... Other managers have done way more with much less.

Pep shouldn't be regarded as the best manager in the world or the best manager ever until he overachieves at a club. Given the tools he's been handed, there's no way you can say Pep has overachieved at any of the clubs he's managed! What has Pep done that compares to what Fergie did at Aberdeen or what he did at United between 2006-11? People go on about City winning four titles in a row but United would've won five titles in a row but for an offside goal for Chelsea. United also got to three CL finals in four seasons with some squad players who wouldn't look out of place at Rotherham! Pep is clearly a great manager but let's see what he can do when he hasn't been given the best squad of players in world football!
