'People will stop here': Cherokee Nation to build $10M park in Tahlequah

A 15-acre, $10 million cultural park is coming to Cherokee County.
The Cherokee Nation has been working on the project for four years. The project will solely represent Cherokee Nation culture.
Gerald Wofford is a part of the Cherokee Nation and said he would appreciate the park.

    I think it's a beautiful idea... A lot more family-oriented. Always hate to see the casinos on reservations because it just seems so hopeless. Profiting off the destruction of other people is never a good thing. Nothing to be proud of no matter how prosperous... In my opinion. Use your wealth to heal and restore. I really am enjoying what the Cherokee people are doing towards restoring and healing of the tribal land and people of Oklahoma. I hope to have the opportunity to visit the park...

    Me myself Cherokee Nation we can't get any help it's either we make too much money or the program's no longer taking applications the members don't even get to notify the programs going on just by word of mouth we end up hearing something that's going on it's not the members of getting anything from the nation it's the families and employees other Nation to get any benefits were always told it's not taking vacations anymore or we make too much money will we make too much money how come our chief makes more than the president of the United States they make their own salaries they take away from us to supply for their own families and we sit back and do it out I can get food assistance from a church but I can't get assistance from the nation I make too much money they say why don't they take that money they keep building stuff for that we don't want and help us the elderly disabled that need the help they can't do that they always have an excuse for not being able to help us I'm 68 years old disabled live alone and have no air conditioning but I make too much money to get their help they can'thelp me isn't that something for a big tribe like Cherokee Nation to say but they sure have got air conditioning in their homes I have asthma and COPD and I can't even get air conditioning help because I make too much money not that I have bills to cover they don't care about their members they only care about their own pockets and that's my opinion Cheryl Stevens
