Yeah that's literally the worst "political argument" possible. when i was a kid, i got shit for being german. a kid in my english class said hitler was my master. a teacher told me an anti-semetic joke and then told me to translate it to german, expecting me to laugh and then got angry when i told him hitler wasn’t even german, he was austrian. he then told me that that may be true but the nazis were german. like me. i then refused to speak in any other language besides german for the rest of the period. i have more stories like these but when all of this took place, i had and still have a jewish friend so it was extra hurtful because calling someone a follower of someone that committed mass genocide against one of your best friend’s race/religion (idk if that sentence made sense i’m sorry) because of their ethnicity. anyway, i’m disgusted. fuck hitler.

Honestly fascism has been slowly creeping its way into US politics for much longer than one might think. It's always created a culture of patriotism to the country rather than the people, to the point of Nationalism, it's always valued and prided itself on the military, and the Christians of the US have always wanted to have their morality inbedded in law and government (I mean, seriously, just think about the old decency laws still in some states that say you can't curse in public). zippy I actually had this history teacher in middle school assign us to write an in-class essay about the positive outcomes of slavery. Only two people refused to write, the rest of the class was just jotting shit down the whole time. Once the time was up she declared that there was no good outcome of slavery and essentially turned the lesson into the issue of mindlessly taking orders from authorities, and that led into the discussion of WW2. It was honestly amazing and she constantly blew everyone’s minds.

in my ethical debate, one of the kids on the opposing team ended up talking himself into defending h*tler. like, the dude was talking about how there was a difference between words and actions, and how words were not as potent as the actions taken either for or against those words. thus, he ended up saying that h*tler didnt really do anything until... he did something. his entire team was staring at him with mixed feelings of confusion, fury, embarrassment, and emptiness.

That's a scary argument. Hate is a strong word but I feel like we should be able to express negative feelings, especially if someone is so obviously bad like hitler. If humans didn't feel hatred, we wouldn't have created a word for the concept. As long as it doesn't lead to actual confrontation, I don't see why we shouldn't be allowed to hate other people. Shit like this just belittles people's feelings.

Honestly the fact that people can take response tweets out of context and make it seem like it's the first original tweet in the thread is an interface problem imo. It's one of the reasons I stay away from twt. You can't easily see where they were responding to (I barely go on twt and I still get confused on where to click, okay?)
