American here for context and background information: Both my parents were in the military so i became desensitized to not seeing them for long periods at a time. I wouldn’t hear or see my mom for like 2yrs while she was deployed and when she showed up randomly for a visit, i would only get to see her for like a week before she had to leave again. My parents were never married, were split up since i was born, so my dad lived in a different state. And growing up, until i was about 7yrs old i would spend the summer time (about 4 weeks) visiting him before going back to my maternal grandmother’s for the school yr after the summer ended. And then after that I didn’t see or hear from my dad from ages 7-13yrs old. And didn’t move in with him until i was about 15-16yrs old. So to me, i don’t really have a reaction to not seeing my loved ones for a long time because i got use to it growing up.

Exactly! More of us in the west tend to display more genuine feelings through embraces like these with those dearest to our hearts, regardless of gender or if it's a family member or friend. Don't get me wrong, there's plenty of individuals in North America that are very Touch-me-not or just simply not physically demonstrative; one of my sisters & 2 of my brothers were that way. One would have to have been gone for years/ deployed for a helluva long time toto be that expressive; and I'm from a dedicated U.S. military family. LOL! Seems that many from the far east with strong Confucian, conservative views, (& yep I know we've got conservatives here in the States and other Western nations too), that just don't do that and worry too much about what others will say. On this & similar channels the reactors have stated this themselves. It's not their culture. I respect that, yet at the same time it's kind of a shame.

My boyfriend is deployed in New Mexico, but right now we're on TDY in Las Vegas. We're both flying home to my family, and then driving to his afterwards for Christmas. I'm definitely going to cry from missing them so much! Also, it's not just the children of deployed soldiers who remember the homecoming. In middle school, my dad surprised me at recess coming home from Afghanistan after a year. Years later in high school, one of my classmates told me he remembered me because of that event. He remembered me running and crying, jumping into my father's arms. You definitely never forget that feeling.

4:08 Yes, some people are really that close as best friends. Gender really doesn't matter at all. The only reason it does, is because people made it matter. Some men and women really are just close friends, and you gotta trust that and not put what you think should happen into their lives. (Speaking generally here).

He wasn’t able to make it for the graduation day. But he came back to school without any warning one day, and seeing him made me so shock that my mouth just open wide and gasp.

It's an Asian culture. With the opposite sex friendships they don't really touch or hug each other like some others cultures. Which is fine it's their thing and I get it but the only thing pissing me off is how they always comment that they have to be a couple or that they cannot be just friends. I'm very touchy with people I'm close to and if we both comfortable with it I would hug you like that all the time 😁

3:17 this made me remember when I was about 8 or 9yo when my dad came back from military service at the time I was going out from my neighbors house when I saw him trying to open the front door, see now I never saw my dad shaved like he always had his beard and hair on there for I didn’t recognized him, so the first thing I thought about is that there’s a thief trying to break into our house so I started screaming at the top of my lungs that there’s a thief and when he turned around to calm me down I started running around calling for help and in a minute all the neighborhood was gathered around our house and my dad was trying to get them to recognized him and calm them down it took them a hot minute for them and me to recognized him but it turned out to a great memory that I will never forget

I have a father in the military, unlike Korea, Americans choose to be in the military. Military can mean sending them out from weeks, to even multiple years. And the times they do come back, they are on leave. They can only have a certain amount of depending on their brach on military, and their command. In all, its hard to see family when they are deployed, especially overseas.
