Lol tbh, I personally prefer to just have a nice chat at the very most, or get the opportunity to gift my idols stuff if I made them. Autographs are a bonus. Even a mere acknowledgement like a greeting is good enough for me. Then again, stardom is a hell of a curtain and I am not entirely fond of it. I just want to be able to not feel like I'm taking a goddamned school exam when I converse with someone. >:V

Semi-related tale: I went to a lecture event in Boston late September that featured comic artist Art Spiegelman and his wife, Francious Mouly. It was pretty cool (as they both are already), and I even got to ask them a question during Q&A! Super cool, and was happy to be in their presence as a big fan of theirs. Afterwards, I stood outside for a bit and see if I could chat with them and maybe have their autographs. I wasn’t the only one who had a similar idea it seemed, as this small group of guys were also around there. Suddenly, I overhear one of them answering the phone. Apparently, they had left already. How they had this system of tracking down a semi-obscure comic artist (maybe up until this year) is rather concerning, but that’s not even the worst part. Admittedly, I was a little disappointed (not at Art and Franc, just for not getting that experience), tho I kinda figured they wouldn’t be up for any post-lecture stuff, and they seemed to have been in a hurry anyway. I’ll just wait until he (or they) stop by my area or something. No big deal, at the end of the day. 🤷‍♂️ You know what I hear the guys near me say after this news? “Uh, what an asshole! 🙄 Gotta return these books now”. What makes this even worse was that they were trying to have them sign *Maus*. *They we’re trying to scalp a fucking non-fiction Holocaust book*.

It's a comic style book that details his family's experience during the war and the holocaust, including their time at the concentrations camps. I read it in 6th grade and absolutely loved it for how frank and honest it was.

They were so ready to turn in an instant.

Real fans don't boo someone that they actually admire THE SECOND they think they won't get an autograph. Real fans generally say nice things, maybe cheer, and are just happy to see them.

I used to have Twitter before and it got blocked because my old email can't open it. But, I've been freed from Twitter since 2014 and since Twitter is a toxic place, I'm so glad I never used it again.

James Cameron is from my hometown. I met him after the release of Titanic when he came back for a visit. He was super nice, chatted, signed stuff for us (along with the rest of the towns stuff) and was super kind.

If they were actual fans, they wouldn't have been screaming "f*ck avatar"

Like, I could say that 6 foot 4 bodybuilder walking beside me is a stalker and I would be more believable because I'm less threatening. Though they are definitely too loose with it, paparazzi are clearly a scourge on some people's lives, sometimes more than one at a time. Shouldn't have to get in a situation where you either run the fucks over or get hit by a car pulling out. Edit: also reread your comment, I don't understand the last bit. The victim is the only one that's threatened, I doubt it needs to be said. If the stalker is going for more than the original person they are still a victim of him.

You're spot on in saying people are not entitled to autographs. If a celebrity doesn't want to give autographs to fans, for whatever reason, that is their decision. That doesn't make them a bad person. If someone doesn't want to do something, don't pressure them (unless it's to do the right thing, which even then is tricky), because that's not right. People need to realize that they don't own other people and can't demand things from them. It's just... sad.

If I was a celeb I think I would do my best to overflow the world with items that have my signature. Like I'd ask local supermarkets let me sign all your ramen cups, soup cans, gallons of milk and candy bars. I'd try to sign so much stuff that my signature is literally worthless. I'd like to imagine that somebody would go into the bathroom and see my signature on ever slice of toilet paper. I am an autograph collector who used to attend events just to obtain certain humans signatures. If I saw any of them outside of the signing area, I would just nod and go on. This is how a human is supposed to act around others they consider to be "valuable". Those creatures who pester and yell for attention they do not deserve; should get nothing. My entire collection is made out to my name, so I hope one of my sons names one of their kids my name. (LOL) Thanks for pointing this out.

My uncle played pro football back in the day and there was this one guy who collected autographs that always got them from my uncle. They became close friends and eventually a family friend. Through my uncle he was able to grow his little autograph business by all the other players he would toss his way. He was the nicest guy, and that goes A LONG way. My uncle and all the players didn’t mind giving him what he wanted at that point. Moral of the story, be nice , be kind to your “hero’s” and always bring food to someone you’re trying to appease 😊😂❤

This reminds me of when something like this happened to one of the kids from Stranger Things. Someone ambushed a literal child outside of the hotel he was staying at and got mad that he wouldn't stop to talk with them, then posted something along the lines of "you owe your fans, we made you." People really need to just leave celebrities and public figures alone.

One time during highschool, my sister and I had the opportunity to meet the Beast Boys due to a Teachers Vs Celebrities basketball game, and after the game, they were giving out autographs. The gym was already mostly emptied out and there were two girls who got to them before we could. So we were waiting patiently at a distance but the staff were telling us we had to exit the gym already, so we lost that chance. Was I saddened by it? Sure. But that wasn't any of their faults and certainly not the Beast Boys' fault. We were just a few moments too late. I'm still grateful I even GOT the opportunity to see them in person at all.

This is on par with Tobey Maguire's freakout at the paparazzi crowding his car, absolutely justified bc those people are out of line

Or they're paid by the weirdos that write the articles to go out and get them some 'article-worthy' news out of them, I swear they antagonize them on purpose in hopes that the celebrity gets mad or blows them off so they can continue to profit from the drama news.

I will never understand how people don't understand that celebrities are h u m a n b e i n g s. They have a life just as deep and complex as anyone else's and deserve to be treated with the same amount of respect as anyone, not like an object. Ugh

Can say from experience from living in Colombia - having people approach you all the time, aggressively trying to sell you something is the most annoying thing ever. I know this isn't the exact same thing, but it's a pretty similar vibe - they're just asking for an autograph rather than money. It's really, really annoying and when they don't leave you alone after you say "no", it can make you pretty angry, particularly when it's the 257th time it's happened to you

Like Charlie said if they were fans he'd probably be more inclined to sign stuff BUT EVEN STILL he doesn't owe ANYONE an autograph. He's a human being.

That clip was insane, they were screaming at him ! Even if they were fans maybe he was busy, maybe he felt sick, there's a billion valid reasons he could have to not sign stuff. No one except the worst criminals deserved to be screamed at like that.

They way they handle themselves is disappointing because you know it happens all the time with different people and they end up giving fans/viewers a bad reputation.

I don't know what's sadder, the fact that there are people out there harassing celebrities for autographs to sell or that there are people who buy them.

I like how Charlie is careful enough to not give us the finger so he points it to the wall instead. Great muzzle discipline there.

God I love it when I know Charlie's opinion before I even watch the video. I fxcking 100% agree with his take, and that was my take just from the subtitle in the thumbnail alone. I think normal people would say that James Cameron doesn't owe the fans shxt. I mean, if it was an autograph session or something then YEAH, anger would make sense... but it wasn't. Just another human being walking out of a building and getting swamped by entitled fans and having none of it. Kinda reminds me of when people got up in arms about Pewdiepie telling off his fans when he was trying to play a game on Playstation and his gamer tag leaked while on stream. People were fxcking blowing his console UP with friend requests and he got pissed. Rightfully so bc people were disrupting the stream. The whole "We're not friends" thing blew tf UP bc entitled caveman brained goblins thought they were owed something for simply being fans. Same situation here, except there's a layer deeper. Scaplers deserve no fxcking sympathy. Glad Cameron showed them his ass cheeks by walking away. [Moral of the story: Celebrities owe you (the fans) nothing. You are NOT their family, or their friends, no matter how much you love and support them. Also, try treating celebrities as if they are human once i a while. Give em space, privacy, and perhaps talk to them as if they're another random Joe on the street.]

I recently got to meet someone that I really idolize. I was TERRIFIED of seeming overbearing or being too demanding. For the most part, I think fans really try to respect the people they admire. You're right; this is not at all how fans treat a celebrity. If there were any silent fans in that crowd, they went home and BRAGGED that they got flipped off by James Cameron. Those people who are harassing him and siding with this crowd are absolutely businessmen with eBay and Etsy stores, and they count on stuff like this to make a buck. He absolutely does not owe them. It makes me think twice about how merchandise like this is sourced, and whether my favorite people were harassed to obtain it!

main thing, if they were truely "fans" they wouldn't harass him. Also there are plenty of celebrities that don't give out autographs and honestly its a way to value yourself to some extent. Your autograph is worthless if you just sign everything. No one is entitled to give autographs away. that's a choice. I believe Twitter at this point is this weird hive mind of bees that's like "YO WE SHOULD BE UPSET AT THIS" and then all the bees get mad and they don't even know why.

I don't like rusty lemonade I prefer mine from a frozen can and diluted with so much water that you have to add white sugar in it so you can actually taste something.

Most people that ask for autographs are just looking to resell it on eBay. It's like saying a celebrity has to sign or take pictures with people because they're obligated to do so. Real fans won't act like this.

That's fundamentally untrue. I ran into my favorite comedian and got his autograph because I'll most likely never see him again in my lifetime. I have it framed on my dresser. Maybe you shouldn't make assumptions and generalizations about people when you clearly don't know anything.

Something i lobe about Charlie is that he doesn't spend 3 hours on an intro/outro. He starts the video with the subjects, continues it with his opinions/video/reactions, and finishes the video with the subject recap which I LOVE, because i find most KZread spending 4 hours on outros when its just a " thats about it, cya" as an outro, Nothin more and nothin less, love it

I was at the game awards, and this same exact thing happened. I was walking out to the side of the microsoft theater to get to the parking garage and everyone was at the side door waiting for Troy Baker (Joel in last of us) and he literally just closed the door on them, it was comically funny. Then everyone started moping and cursing about it.

I pre-paid for a photo-op with A certain celeb at a comic-con one time. Stood in the line up waiting as one does and then they decided to leave early so a lot of the people scheduled for a Saturday picture had to reschedule for Sunday. However I was from out of town and was leaving in the morning so missed out. I was super disappointed and even a little mad, but I did get a refund and even if not I would never of gone to the lengths of what these people did. Disgusting.
