Back in the days when Neon and lights PC cases were a true thing just like 2 Fast 2 Furious/NFSU era... oh God how I'd like to wake up back in 2003-2004 just for one day.. Amazing video and dedication!

This sure brings back memories! I had a Sapphire 9800 Pro with Hynix RAM chips; after flashing the BIOS, I got a 9800XT. Only those 9800 Pros with Hynix/Samsung RAMs could be flashed to a 9800XT if I recall.

The FX Graphics cards were really just massaged Gforce 4's that pretended to have DX9 features. And that is what killed them. Under directx 8 they performed fine. I remember back in the day clinging onto my radeon 9700 AIW for dear life with my Athlon 64 3700+, my friends system was the Prescott 3.0ghz computer and a 6600GT agp. And the comparisons were very interesting. I thundered him with anything cpu related, but gaming was either even or slightly in his favor. I think the only reason I stood a chance at all in gaming performance at all, was his refusal to overclock. The 6600GT had slightly slower ram speed compared to the pci-e version, (900 vs 1000) And i had my 9700 pushed pretty hard at 366/700. I think I also edged him out in very high resolution's, but it is getting hard to remember... Of course a short while later I upgraded to a 7900GT and that was it... Good ol' Asrock 939 dual!

To je neuvěřitelné! Je mi 25 let a když byly tyto komponenty aktuální, byl jsem ještě malé dítě, ale přesně v těchto letech mě už začínal trošku zajímat hardware. Prostě takovéto povídání mezi spolužáky, kteří měli většinou GeForce 4200ti. :D Doposud mě nikdy nenapadlo se podívat, jak vypadal hi-end v letech, které znám jako malý kluk. Tuning počítače mě začal "zasahovat" až když přišly GeForce 8800GT/Ultra. Ultra jsem snad nikdy neviděl naživo. Od té doby tak nějak pozoruji vzhled počítačů, protože i ten se chtě nechtě poměrně dost mění. Nicméně tyhle počítače na mě působí jakoby přirozeněji z technického hlediska. Jsou vidět přesné detaily na těch komponentech, naprosto precizní a úžasně odvedenou inženýrskou práci. Dneska jsou ty komponenty tedy taky nádherné. I v levnějším segmentu na sobě mají různé ornamenty, RGB funkce, atd, ale třeba většina moderních karet má Backplate. Mně osobně se to líbí, je to moderní, ale tohle je osobitější. * Moc se mi líbí a nedovedu si představit Vaši trpělivost, smysl pro detail uskladnění těch komponent. Líbí se mi, že cokoli vytáhnete z krabice, tak se leskne jak nové a veškeré věci vypadají, že jsou ve velice dobré kondici. Jednou budete legenda...

The silver p4 build is one of my favorite computers I’ve ever seen.

I loved my ti4200 back then, and later my MSi FX5900XT did pretty good as well. It was 100% better than the earlier FX5800 launch and carried me thru until I bought a PNY 6800GS and managed to unlock the extra pipe, and shaders with RivaTuner. Great cards back then and fun to mod.

Those were the PCs of my Dreams, I had a Intel Celeron 1.7 ghz with 256 mb ram and my first GPU was a Geforce 4000 mx that turned out to be a nvidia rebrand scam. Later I got a gt 6200 and at least I could play games that used pixel shaders (Silent Hill 3). Still very limited in the cpu/memory side. I had to learn everything alone and in my country it wasn't easy nor accessible for a teen on their own.

Great work man! Are there gonna be any newer builds like Core 2 Extreme with an 8800GTX? Keep up the good work!

Very nice work! Like always. Only one suggestion for future propose: from GeForce FX and lower is better using Forceware 52.xx or 53.xx or Detonator 44.xx, 45.xx. Later driver are more DirectX 9.0c GPU oriented

Anytime drivers are lottery :-) Some are faster but unstable etc.

I was just looking at local local market page looking for XASER III i had one just like yours but i could not find it but i found XASER III lanfire and it looks like its packed with AGP ati 256 card, some MBO 478 socket and, Thermal take supply seller dint know or dint care about parts but i bought it. I want that case.

Its here and with case i got MBO : A7V600 CPU : Athlon 2000+ with weird TT cooler fan have only 3 blades and its rigged to power supply for controlling speed of the fan GPU : 9600 PRO 128 MB PSU : Thermaltake 480w pure power RAM : 2GB of Super talent DDR 400 MHZ with heat spreaders. Sound : SB LIVE 5.1 2x DVD DVD RW one white one black 2x HDD ( still didn't check capacity ) one IDE one SATA Floppy drive white Round cables for HDD and floppy 2x sata cables with caps that is first for me to see sata cables with caps. And Xaser III lanfire, And everything is in mint condition it seems that someone build it and then just left it. I was so surprised how well system is clean. I was thinking to put my old 2600k inside because i was expecting just the case and some maybe junk inside, but now i will buy generic case for my 2600k. And leave this system and use it. Its funny i just build new system for work Ryzen 7 2700, 32 gigs and other jazz, but somehow i was more excited to see how well preserved this case is. So not bad for 30 euros, and thank you for pinup and greetings from Bosnia.

It's impressive even a single core/thread can run games like this. I know 9800XT give an extra boost of performance but Cinebench shows how Athlon is powerful en behind P4s it still gives good performance.

Great video, but ATi was more suitable for the Intel at those times

Call of Duty 2 ran on DirectX 9, which is why the FPS was so low. However, you can change it to run on DirectX 7 by changing "Rendering Method Preference" (in options) to DirectX 7. Would be good to see the difference in FPS. :)

Maybe you might be able to help me with this quandary. I got a socket a build running Windows XP all patched up. Xp 3200+, Abit KW7 and a visiontekn hd 2600pro. Surprised as crap that seems to be the only board i threw that Radeon in that it didn't complain about. Anyway... My issue is i completely forgot that the Athlon XP cpu's lack SSE2, and thus cannot either install a current browser or antivirus program that still supports Windows XP. Do you have any suggestions to get around that (usability) limitation?

Oh I don't have experience with browsers in XP in 2019 :-) XP is only for testing or gaming in my office, no access to internet.

you could install firefox up to version 48 or chrome up to version 33... if i remember correctly. you could also use palemoon sse which is still getting updated.

Its a lot tighter race if a fx-51 was used since it was high end for 2003. I wonder y so many people love the 3200+ when it was basically put out there to give amd time to release a64/fx51.

FX51 ... this is quite uncommon CPU to socket 940.

what a bad buy were these fx5950s... I was always regreting I bought an fx5200 128mb in 2004, when I could have stretched the budget for an fx5700, but actually the right choice would have been the radeon 9600... or at least wait 4-5 more months and get the mighty geforce 6600

Heck, my first pc was a Slot A Athlon 750mhz, and i went from a TNT2 m64 to a Ti200, and even a Ti4200 before i was able to leave it behind completely. Yes there would be a bottleneck, but in practice, turning up the settings to put more demand on the GPU tends to balance things out. Or even some visual upgrade mods for that matter.

@@RETROHardware Ok. I just wanted to make sure since it has been a long time since I messed with older hardware. I do have a 64mb MX440 as well but I have the system built well. It lets me run 1.5gb of memory. I'm waiting on a 10000RPM HDD and I'm going to reformat the who thing for it's final config.

I hope Radeon separates from AMD and returns to be ATI only, with respect to the processors, The Pentium 4 HT & EE They have clear advantage over the Athlon XP, Very good video.

Fabián Marshall Nope, Athlon XP was actually better than Pentium 4, especially for the price, but Intel’s propaganda took over brains of people like you. Now, as to the P4 Extreme Edition, it should be compared to Athlon 64 FX-55 or 57. These two just dominate the P4 Extreme Edition.

Pentium 4 HT EE was a weak responce to Athlon 64, not xp

Can run CSGO, Dota 2, L4D2 (with mods), Diablo 3? 1280x720 of course.

для агп больше 9800 радеона и не требовалось, процы были слабы уже для них. В том же фар крае пень 4 не тащит, а карта может еще. Куда вставлять 3850 я хз ваще

Есть только бартон, который может в 2.5 ГГц, он-то наверное получше будет моего п4 3.0, но мне чет лень запускать, все же такому железу тяжеловато такое тащить, более того, 9800 уже не так уж легко найти, потому берегу свои карты, по сути у меня они для коллекции

My Pentium 4 PC doesn't look anywhere near as good as those :( Pentium 4 HT 3.0E Prescott s478 which got 314cb in Cinebench 2003 Gigabyte P4 Titan GA-8SGXL (SiS 648 chipset) 2GB DDR400 ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB with Zalman cooler 2x 40GB Seagate IDE HDD It's built in a pretty normal cheap case from 2003. I wish I could get some nice case for it. At first I was going to build an Athlon 64 with a DFI LANParty UT nF3 250Gb but a cat peed on the board...

FEAR is too heavy for this generation of cards, even newer like geforce 6800 can't run FEAR at max settings with decent fps, always have massive slowdowns ingame or benchmarking, also try test COD 1 instead of COD 2, COD 1 runs in Opengl like quake 3 and COD 2 use DX, huge difference in performance especialy for geforce, i believe FX can outperform the 9800 in that game!

Come on man, where is Doom 3, Half Life 2, Far Cry…Best games to benchmarks systems like these. Update: Ok, I found Doom 3, just wish at least one more game from the list was tested on these systems. Radeon 9800XT on the P4 EE could probably give even higher fps.
