✅ Hello my friends! Let's walk together by a ghost town in southern Italy: Pentedattilo!
Pentedattilo is a small village in Calabria, southern Italy.
The town takes its name from the shape of the cliff of Mount Calvary: a giant hand with five fingers (from the Greek pente (πέντε), or five and dactilo (δάκτυλο), i.e. finger). Right under this mountain the Castle was first built, and then all around the ancient village, surrounded by an extraordinary natural landscape.
Nowadays it is a popular destination for hikers and tourists from all over the world.
The Valle di Sant'Elia is part of this evocative setting, where the curious sandstone fortresses of Santa Lena and Prasterà are located, immersed in expanses of gorse, olive trees, mulberry trees and prickly pears, almond trees and mimosas: a great show in spring.
Pentedattilo is an ex-Greek speaking village in the Calabrian region. Ιt lost its Greek language during the late 19th century.
Pentedattilo was founded as a colony of the Greek city of Chalcis, in 640 BC. A flourishing commercial town during the Greater Greece and Roman eras, it declined during the Byzantine domination, when it was sacked by the Saracens and by others.

In recent years, Pentedattilo has ceased to be a ghost town, restored by associations, artisans and private parties. Currently only two people live (permanently), while in summer it is filled with tourists, artists and lovers of the natural beauty of the town.

I appreciated the narrative . It was filled with a treasure of information. What I did not like was the over saturation of color to the images.
My favorite part in every video is when you greet us with your first words "Buongiorno Amici", and then you pop your face in. The Best! I usually don't care for people chattering nonstop on their vlogs but you are the exception. Your natural accent and knowledge of the area bring so much authenticity that it keeps me interested and entertained. As for Pentedattilo, I don't think I will ever visit there due to my two-week limit I have for taking vacation every year So thank you for bringing it to me and to others who will not make it there. I wonder why the town was abandoned. Very picturesque, the panoramic view of the mountains is awesome. You can see other towns from afar which are thriving I suppose. I enjoyed it, another expedition of yours. Thanks.
