17 likely refers to the 17mm format, half frame format which is 24x17 (same as Ricoh AutoHalf) and this could also be the Camera's name itself -> "Pentax 17" in lines of Pentax 67, Pentax 645

The designer, Takeo Suzuki aka TKO, is quite particular about the use of fonts, so one would expect the font on the camera to be chosen carefully. Given that the "17" at the end of the video looks like the same font as the "67" on the Pentax 67, my guess is the same as yours: that the name of the camera will be "Pentax 17", derived from the dimensions of the format. They released the teaser on the 17th of May simply because it seemed appropriate.

I agree, it’s a half frame film camera - if you look at the spool holes they are going in the opposite direction to standard 35mm

A total of 10 frames are shown. Then the number 17. If it's code for the date, then it would be mid October. Not sure...I'm probably reading too far into this? Edit: After a couple hours, I was thinking more. They show 10 frames taken > It's a half frame camera > 62 is what's left on the roll > 62 days from today is July 17th. Huh...

no this is definitely a new ARG with codes hidden in the frames clearly theres a hint in the orientation of the sprocket holes implying 35mm half frames, hold on i have to do some linear calculus to figure this out

oh no… will the new Pentax film camera be really this annoying to advance after each frame? I was expecting a smooth SLR-type frame advance lever that only takes 1 stroke. especially since it only needs to advance half a normal frame’s length. if it has a cheap wheel winder like a disposable camera I am not going to buy it. damn, I was getting excited about this one.

@@makanimike I'm not so sure there's a great benefit to be had so long as people shoot film but immediately digitally scan, digitally edit, and digitally present their (now 100% digital) images. And for those of us who do like to shoot film sometimes, and who actually treat film as film, there's a vast array of high-quality pre-digital gear in all formats just waiting to be cared for and used.

I get my negatives scanned, too. Even if I get copies, they are digitalised and printed. Still I love shooting film. It looks different from digital images. It feels different to shoot film (although I've got to admit it does so for the all mechanical feel of my Spotmatic II). I'd rather let Pentax (Ricoh) try it out. So far it seems, their approch towards niche markets has worked.

I would rather like to see K3 IV with articulating LCD, a bit more resolution, much better AF in Live-view using combined phase and contrast detect and of course MUCH larger buffer. Preferably you can introduce it with some nice HD-DA*16-135/4 DC AW
