Pentax K-30 Aperture Fix (Secret Revealed)

Ғылым және технология

I have to sorry for my English... It is far away from perfection :D
Here how to fix the aperture issue on K-30, K-50, K-70, K-500, K-S1 and K-S2 models (designed with plunger type aperture interrupter).
I show you where I got the white solenoid from and how to replace Chinese made solenoid to this white Japanese solenoid (ALPS solenoid).
Have fun :)

Thanks Michigo, My beloved K-50 camera is working again, I bought the same donor camera, Pentax MZ-50 , as you from eBay and went through your tutorial. The trickiest part for me was the soldering, I've never soldered before, so I borrowed one. A good tip of yours, the testing of the new installed part and when the aperture worked it finally put a smile on my face and the confidence to put it all back together. Many Thanks again Brian

Thank you! I've just fixed my k-50 using your video and some Pentax forum posts. I really struggled with the small screw to get the old solenoid out as I couldn't get the angle right on my screwdriver. When putting in the new solenoid I managed to strip the screw head... I ended up having the screw half in and using super glue! My camera works again now :)

The MZ-solenoids are slightly different. They are SLR 6V types while the DSLR solenoids are for 7,2V. Some MZ solenoids have a different impedance and some even have opposite polarisation.

@@michigo1726 I just recently got a MZ-Solenoid from a German ebayer (Kilo). It was offered to be the right one but had opposite polarisation. Having your Pentax disassembled and then finding out the solenoid won't work is pretty tough. So I had to get one out of my K-x which still worked but I hardly used it. My K-S2 works like charm now with the proper solenoid. I thought I try filing-sanding the green one. Inserted it into my K-x but now my K-x overexposes all the time.

Hello, I found a white one on a DVD/CD unit from an old laptop... you have to dismantle it (it lays near the opening button)... but I'm NOT sure if it works the same way (maybe it needs different voltage). For sure it looks exactly the same as the one that is mounted in the camera...

My Pentax Ks2 fix was a little less complicated. I simply use a Takumar 28mm lens with a manual aperture-focus as my fun hobby camera. A little more of a challenge and much more fun and usually I shoot in B&W, for times I must have Auto focus I use another camera that has great video also. But for Fun slower relaxing shoots its my Pentax all the way. ( I later fixed by filing the 2 legs of the horse shoe piece in the solenoid and it did work so far so good, however when removing the covers I noticed a paper thin black metal washer the same size as the wi-fi button that fell out. it would remind you of an o ring except metal, do you know where it belongs?

NIce! I did something similar with my K-70, but with an FA lens. Gave me an aperture ring and allowed me to autofocus.

@@GST90 Well I just seemed to have fixed mine today. while in AV mode I simply held down the shutter button while tilting and smacking the bottom of the camera against my palm about 5 times while keeping the aperature setting between f 5.6 and f 11. You can see the moment that the fix happens and it was during a tilted frame so my best guess is there is something that gets stuck due to sitting unused for long periods of time. mine only had 955 shots when I found out the problem on line. Im still going to primarily use this camera with manual lenses in fact Im on line right now shopping. do you have any suggestions for a descent manual lens?

Hi all. Had this issue on my K50 after not using it for 6 months. Nervous about about openiong it up and managed to find a trick that solved the problem. Put it in burst mode and fire off a load of shots. Delete them and repeat a few times. Problem solved.

MZ solenoid into K30 didn't work: it would not sit in position properly. Solenoid from dead istDS works a treat.

Why did you demolish the MZ-50 like this, Just to get the Solenoid? Just needs around 20 screws on all sides to open the side , where the Solenoid is, and you can solder it out. Also make sure that the MZ-series white Solenoids have different Resistance to the digital ones.

You are so right. Where's the recall from Pentax (Ricoh)? I bought a K-S2 body for $260 online, so clean and new, and shot about 10 images. Shooting pictures now only results in black images. And now I have to spend $45 for a Japanese solenoid? And take it apart? I don't think so. It should still work with manual lenses, will try that when I get home from work. And will never buy Pentax again. Or Canon. I bought one of their Pixma bulk ink jet printers (with a promise of not having to buy ink for a year), it stopped working after 2 months (I can't find the receipt), and no recalls either. All these Japanese camera companies are sucking now because they have all 90% of their garbage made in China. Makes me angry as I'm sure so many others are.
