Pentatonix “Vs” VoicePlay 2 out now
I like both groups. It just so happen that I like VoicePlay a lot better. They're so underrated.
Voice play for creativity and Geoff who just rocks that bass
Both are amazingly talented groups. I just happen to prefer VoicePlay.

Voiceplay ❤️🎼👑
Both good. But Voiceplay has more soul, more life ❤
Voiceplay all the way. I don't think its the talent as much as it is the arrangements. Also Voiceplay is so much more fun to watch.
My money's on VoicePlay. Before I ever heard of them, I was a PTX fan from their Sing Off days and after. They had that 'spark', and you could see them growing on the show each week, then after the show their catalogue developed in interesting ways, very inventive, always with that spark. When Avi left, something seemed to go out of the group besides his rich bass. Don't know if this is accurate, but it 'felt' like Avi wanted to stay more grounded in the real world, while the original 3 wanted to build on the fame as fast as possible, and Kevin wasn't necessarily driven like that but went along for it, or could have gone the slower pace also. It just seemed like the fun they were having with acapella transitioned into the 'music business', emphasis on the second word. With some notable exceptions, like 90s Dance Medley was fun, like the older days. But something just went out of it with Avi's departure, and more than his deeper-than-Matt's bass. Hard to describe, but the feeling is there, and is very real. VoicePlay, on the other hand, feels like they still have that fun element. They're a more mature band, not just from the ages of the original members, but while PTX won Sing Off in 2011, VP changed their name to that in 2012, and were 42Five since the 90s. Geoff's deep bass isn't the only 'speed' he can sing at, and he can get up into a respectable tenor range, plus he can shift _quickly_ between registers, in the same phrase even. In their Little Mermaid medley, dude does a nearly 3-octave slide down! Layne's a great beatboxer, and singer on occasion. Eli has a raspy tenor that could put him out front in any rock band he wanted. They've had some members come and go (former members include Scott, Tony, James, Earl, J.None, currently they're Geoff, Eli, Layne, Cesar, with a short list of featured singers in the 5th slot), but it didn't have the devastating effect that Avi's departure had on PTX (and maybe some of their departures did at the time, but I'm just going by how it feels now). VP kept that spark that PTX lost. They're a little heavy on the theatrical for my taste, but if that's the process that keeps it fun and inventive, then keep funding that greasepaint, costuming and set design budget! Maybe the difference is that VP is still running their direction based on what pleases and interests them musically, while PTX seems to be a bit more about the business and their standing in it. And if any of that sounds like an unfair criticism of PTX, I sincerely apologize, as it was not my intent to slam them, but to try and put a finger on how I see the two groups, without continuing to say 'spark' over and over. Both are very talented, always give a good time, and are easy on the ears. But in comparison, there's just a 'fun spark' that VP still (and probably always will) have, whereas PTX used to have that, or at least to a larger degree than they do now. When someone's having fun, it shows. Also shows when they're not having as much as they used to.

Pretty much totally agree. Much earlier on I didn't put Voiceplay at the top of the obvious A Capella triangle (Home Free), but honestly, of their later stuff, I think I might. The arrangement and performance Voiceplay just released of Whisky is just pinnacle level. The most unique take on the song I have heard to date, and so musically interesting and beautiful. I keep imploring them to do another Sea Shanty. Home Free's Shanty is a blast, too.

@@MrJdsenior Totally agree on 'Whiskey in the Jar'! Top shelf version of the old classic (see what I did there?). And to my earlier point about 'spark', check out this quote from VP's Description under the Whiskey video: "As far as we can tell "mush-a-rain-dum-a-doo-dum-a-dah" is the most fun lyric we've ever gotten to sing in the history of ever." Now those are some guys who are enjoying themselves. And it shows, and makes it more fun for the viewer.

Yours is probably the best argument ever for directly supporting artists through their own pay sites. Voiceplay relies on direct funding of their productions versus working for a Big Corporate entity. As such, VP self-produces and therefore maintains all artistic control and ownership of their art. I don't think the same can be said for PTX, and it shows in who has their heart more deeply involved with their productions. I can listen to PTX but I support VP and Geoff and Pattycake through their respective Patreon accounts because of what they produce. I enjoy having the interactions, to the extent I participate, but you know they're doing what they love, how they want to produce it, and I think that makes all the difference.
My heart and soul say Voiceplay for sure.❤
voice play is my absolute favourite.
Love both groups so so much. PTX are a force to be reckoned with and they have earned all the fame they have. Their harmonies and arrangements are amazing and I'm blown away every time. ❤ VoicePlay!
I've always been a PTX fan, ever since the Sing-Off, but lately kind of leaning more towards Voice Play. (And to my all time favorite, Home Free.) Both Home Free and Voice Play have a greater sense of fun, and are more entertaining to watch and listen to, while never sacrificing musical excellence. You just feel good after hearing or watching them. There's no doubt PTX is fabulous, with incredibly talented members. But they're not really 'fun' (at least, to me).

This is exactly how I think of them. PTX has amazing harmonies and I think they may be the more talented vocalists, but they're missing the "it" factor they used to have. VP puts together the more fun arrangements and you can tell they're having a much better time making them compared to PTX.
@kaygirly19

@@tonyfrance4100 i think both groups have different goals. I feel like PTX is really looking to get more and more famous. Their ethic work and crazy schedules over the last decade proved they want to be the next big thing and that didn't fit well with Avi's lifestyle I think. They are still unknowned to so many people. As for VP I don't have the same vibes from them at all. They are having mad fun and don't seem to look for fame and that makes them even more enjoyable to watch them. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe they do want to reach Hollywood.
Pentatonix gives me goosebumps, but Voiceplay's arrangements are so crazy creative! Both absolutely amazing!
voiceplay will always have a special place in my heart and the incredible vocals and utter silliness they have as a group. not to mention their videos are hilarious and always have a voiceplay twist whether its cesar with his iconic fan or layne and his carrots. pentatonix are amazing dont get me wrong but for me voiceplay is levels above!
VoicePlay ❤ always
Both groups are fantastic. In my opinion Voiceplay is better. They are more well rounded performers (acting out parts, expressions and costumes...) and they sing with more emotion than Pentatonix.
In mid October, I came in through Geoff Castellucci's Monster Mash, then hit VP and Hoist the Colours, was thoroughly wowed by whatever I heard of theirs. Found PTX and Hallelujah and Mary Did You Know? Thought that they are wonderful but a touch behind what VP is doing these days. Just about everything I hear is better than the last. I'm glad to have Cesar as a member and would happily take Omar Cardona and Ashley Diane although I have enjoyed the featured guests. Geoff's voice is something else - butter mixed with caramel. Elie's voice is so variable and can be used in so many ways. Layne is the best beat-boxer period, always improving skills as witnessed by Dream On. Based on the choices here I would give Christmas to PTX because it is one of my favorites of theirs, but as far as it goes, the rest lands with VoicePlay.
VoicePlay, hands down!
Voiceplay is overall more creative and slightly higher quality, but when i saw Pentatonix pull the megaphone for the solo in Bohemain Rhapsody, *chef's kiss*

Used to be quite into PTX when they first gained popularity, but fell out after a while due to certain songs losing emotion. Can't fault them on technique and skill though. Pentatonix : We have a group... voiceplay: We have a Geoff
I’m more of a music theater person so I like Voiceplay, but they’re both amazing.
Both groups are so great. I discovered VP recently and I had so much pleasure especially with their "hoogie boogie man" rendition I can't get over this one. And also "Can't help fall in love" is soooo beautiful and different from everything I have heard before. Like I want their version to play at my wedding. But PTX embraces everything that I love about music. They make everything sound better and I've been following them since day 1. Yes Avi's departure was rough but they are definitely in their best right now and Matt is amazing and they are having way much more fun with him. Their dynamic is precious if you look out their PTX experience episodes. I will always be a Pentaholic. I want both group to collaborate.
i love both bands but im a way bigger fan of the work voiceplay ahs done and im also a huge fan of goeff.gotta give it to vp
When I heard my first voiceplay song it touched my soul. Hearing ptx songs it isn't the same. For example when I listen to the original Halleluja I allways have to cry and when I listen to ptx Halleluja I feel nothing. Maybe their songs are sung perfectly but they don't touch me.

I adore Pentatonix been listening to them for years I recently found Geoff n through him Voiceplay... they have become my favorite acapella group
The musical arrangements + the creative settings, outfits, makeup to provide atmosphere make Voiceplay a favorite for me -- Dream On, Bruno, and My Mother Told Me are ones I watch/listen to over and over. Rotating guests keep things fresh and provide a little different feel for the ensemble of voices. That said, Pentatonix also has some masterpieces I come back to regularly -- Hallelujah of course, and also Prayer.
Definitely vote for Voiceplay!!!! Much more musically diverse and complex. And while Pentatonix is good, VP is much better.
The entire comment section is just how VoicePlay does the best, and I agree. VoicePlay owns Halloween and Disney Villains
I agree VoicePlay takes this totally. Avi may have helped Ptx, but the strength of the upper voices in Voice play still run away with it. And nobody can out bass Geoff.
Both groups are very talented but my vote goes to VoicePlay!!

I would love to see Penatonix and Voiceplay do something together. I think we'd all die from the musical perfection.
Yeah don't care what anybody says voice play Has It by a Longshot! First and foremost when Pentatonix start singing it sounds good but when voiceplay gets going because of Geoff Castellucci your speaker rattles and depending on what you're listening on it might rattle your walls. Geoff Castellucci voice get so deep it gets into the level of subharmonics. If you don't know what that is that's in the range of where elephants talk to each other at Great distances. That and he is just so damn beautiful! Like Fabio's youngest brother. And he can sing in a 5 octave range not many people can do that and maintain The Voice. Pentatonix just doesn't have that. They sound nice and all but they're not great. It's voice play 100%
Pentatonix are hugely popular with theatre kids, which is very ironic, since they are one of the only a capella groups out there that don't do theatrical videoclips or performances - with the rare exception (Making Christmas, Daft Punk, Love Again). PTX basically is the epitome of success - don't be as out there as you can - just do pop and what's current.
