At 67 I'm just a babe, but I've been performing since the 70's and I agree. I'm also a recording engineer so I'm aware that they do get some help from modern recording techniques. But their talent and arrangements are profound.

Carole Drennan Then you must hear the Peter Hollens and TimFoust version. Hint...wear headphones. Goosebumps. Only two men a cappella. Also for a musical version, Disturbed did a fantastic job. I love Pentatonix, but these other two versions are outstanding.

I sang this song in choir in high school. I fell in love with it. I have heard many versions of it over the years, but this one took my breath away. I watched Pentatonix win the Sing Off, and I have seen them grow into the phenomenon they are now. By far the best version of this song I have ever heard.

""I'm 63, but this song still touches my heart! I have been fortunate to have had 3 heroes in my life. One rescued me from abuse..."" I never started, have never touched any drug or alcohol.... it is strange to me that the RECOVERED always get or ask for praise, but the ones who never started ,who had the fortitude or simply the ability to know better (didn't you know that crap was bad for you? and yet chose to do it) those never get the MORE recognition they deserve..... Each time I see a comment of story like this it Reminds me of the two sons of the father of the prodigal son in the Bible... I never understood how a father could be that level of stupid, how could the father do THAT to his GOOD son. He could have accept, but push, the RETURNING son. Damn it, give the feast or party and the best cow and clothing to the GOOD son, not The Ass who left with his inheritance and told the family to go F themselves, imagine how the good son felt for staying and helping al that time only to have his FATHER order his to give the best to the assh0le son when he finally spent all the money and had nowhere to go and returned "home" as a LAST resort... Go figure!! How is the person or son who RECOVERED from alcohol or drugs or anything more worthy of praise than the one who never started!! Society is Fked. But people who recovered always have to tel people in parties or any conversation how difficult and how they overcame it. Sorry man, but no sale. I am 58 and so far no addiction ever, and I don't go around telling people, I mention it here for illustrative purposes only, it is hard for people to notice what doesn't happen even if that is more important and worthwhile.

The Sound of Silence Lyrics - Performed by Pentatonix [Verse 1: Scott Hoying] Hello darkness, my old friend I've come to talk with you again Because a vision softly creeping Left its seeds while I was sleeping And the vision that was planted in my brain Still remains Within the sound of silence [Verse 2: Mitch Grassi] In restless dreams I walked alone Narrow streets of cobblestone 'Neath the halo of a streetlamp I turned my collar to the cold and damp When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light That split the night And touched the sound of silence [Verse 3: Matt Saelee] And in the naked light I saw Ten thousand people, maybe more People talking without speaking People hearing without listening People writing songs that voices never share No one dare Disturb the sound of silence Of silence, of silence, of silence... [Verse 4: Kirstin Maldonado] "Fools" said I, "You do not know Silence like a cancer grows Hear my words that I might teach you Take my arms that I might reach you" But my words like silent raindrops fell And echoed in the wells of silence [Verse 5: Scott Hoying] And the people bowed and prayed To the neon god they made And the sign flashed out its warning In the words that it was forming And the sign said "The words of the prophets Are written on the subway walls And tenement halls And whispered in the sounds of silence"

I just KNEW that the longer Matt sung in PTX, the better, stronger & more powerful he would get, because we're hearing that same development in Kirstie's vocals too! We all know that Scott is a Beast, but he was just leading the class with the showcase of his range! Matt and Kirstie were right behind him too! This song is not only a great example of what can be achieved with A Cappella music, but for the Pentaholics among us, it's a beautiful reminder of how Pentatonix NEVER rest on their laurels! I predict that we will see that Matt’s range will be on a par with Scott’s (probably lower, but equally as high), I look forward to the many demonstrations of this. I also predict a similar ’competition’ between Mitch and Kevin’s vocal ranges and, finally, Kirstin stunning us again and again with her surprising, unexpected key changes mid-song! There is so much to look forward to in the future evolution of PTX, I’m really looking forward to the journey! Exciting days ahead! 🤗

Kirstin takes the honors on this one, in my opinion. And I love that she and Mitch both kept it in their middle ranges. This song didn't need to impress with a bunch of high notes--though Scott certainly impressed with his low notes! Was that a respectful nod to David Draiman? Come on, people, there's room for plenty of different covers of this classic song, and each interpretation can have its own merits. I've loved Simon and Garfunkel since this song first appeared in the mid-sixties, and their version is still the standard for me. I'm in awe of Disturbed's cover, with all the passion that tympani and Draiman's voice can bring. Pentatonix has just made a somewhat quieter version, more in keeping with S&G's, but with layered vocal background that switches between lush beauty and eerie dissonance to remind us of the darkness of the message. I think they've done a magnificent job.

Absolutely! This really is the best demonstration of their vocal ranges I have seen, and all in just one song. Yes, Scott carrying the bass, while Matt took the lead... that was crazy fun...and I want to see the actual vocal recording video to see how he interacts with the microphone. He soars on the tenor spot while Kristin solos. Then, returns belting out the lead to wrap it up. Matt belts out s wonderful verse too. Kevin adds the sharp rhythm section and nails it with multiple parts simultaneously. The sound is big. It is hard to believe this is acapella.

This is a wonderful song that they have done. The emotions they put into the song is truly captivating and encouraging to all. Pentatonix was one of the first a capella groups I had listened to. I'm proud to say that they are who got myself into listening to the Acapella groups and wow, words can't even begin to describe how amazing that world of music is. I truly never knew how many different groups there were out there but I truly love and respect and appreciate what all of them can do. They bring joy into the hearts of millions. Thank you for being an inspiration in my life.❤❤❤ ❤ This group here keeps me from wanting to just give up, they remind me there's no reason why I should give up on anything or anyone. That is a true blessing right there. God bless you guys and all that you do.❤❤❤❤

Scott can also sing bass pretty good if its needed. I guess Matt also wanted a solo here. Scott does it also in their live performance of Hallejulah. For a Baritone he is pretty good in it. Not as good as Avi though, he killed it in their "No" cover multiple times... I miss him... WE miss him...

Can we talk for a minute about the guy doing all the percussion sounds? This guy totally completes the band. There are a lot of talented vocalists around, but to find a group that fits this well together, AND a person talented enough to blend perfectly as a vocal percussionist? WOW
