As the story goes, Scott had absolutely NO voice leading up to this performance. He didn't know if he could make it through, but as you can see, he made it, and with aplomb. Apparently, the voice crack you can hear from him at the very end of the song is his voice literally giving out. Incredible!

I don't know why so many reactors think they only did 12 performances for The Sing Off. There are actually 15 for this season. This is NOT the finale. This WAS the last song that was judged, but they did two more performances (#13 & 14) after this one before being named the champions. Those two performances were strictly voted on by TV audiences and not the judges. They are on separate videos, as is the winning announcement (followed by the champion's song, performance #15), so you actually have THREE more videos to go thru to get to the championship. I personally feel they actually won the competition with #10, but #12 was the ultimate mic drop...and yes, they unleashed the Mitch Beast with this one. It was actually pure brilliance on their part to hold him back until this point as he was their secret weapon.

Whoo! They killed this one stone dead, didn't they? Congrats on making it through the whole series! Random trivia, because I'm nerdy like this: their dress rehearsal didn't go well, then Scott lost his voice (you can hear it break on the very last note), and they were all pretty rattled. But they went out there and did the thing anyway, belting for their life, and stars were born. All part and parcel of why I love them; they're the definition of "make your dreams happen".

Thanks for following through on all their performances. I have always loved this one only it makes me sad when I hear Avi at the end knowing he would eventually feel the need to leave. Hard to believe three 19 year old friends who are so talented started something like the Pentatonix we know today!

Yeah, Avi's comment makes me sad, too. I think his association with Pentatonix was the perfect thing for him and everyone else at the time. His contributions were integral to their sound and initial popularity. And I also think Avi got to explore the playful side of his personality with them, something he may never have had the chance to do if he had stayed on his original course. Some connections are just not meant to last a lifetime, and Avi's soul is too grounded in family and nature to tolerate the frenetic activity of early PTX. Too bad they couldn't wait for him, because I suspect they'll all be slowing down a bit now, with commitments in other areas of their lives.

That rasp in Scott’s voice from his illness actually helped push the intensity of the song. I heard he said he was pretty sure his voice would be gone by the end and he wasn’t even sure if that last note was going to come out

They definitely didn't freestyle this, it was prepared ahead of time. Did you hear Avi doing his overtones in the beginning? That is a talent that he brought to PTX! He is amazing, as is all of them! Love this one! Thank you for the reaction!

There are actually three songs from the finale night: Without You, Give Me Just One Night which they sang with host Nick Lachey (rather than one of the judges), and their victory song Eye of the Tiger. Of course, the announcement of who placed third and then crowning the winner is a video in itself and definitely worth watching, if only to see what they went through emotionally in those final moments before their name was announced as winner. Eye of the Tiger starts playing at the outro, but for the full song, check this link: kzread.info/dash/bejne/l2RpptNrY93IocY.html And following that is of course their return for the season 4 finale with I Need Your Love.

Forgot to say before! They came back as special guests on the last episode of Season 4 (the one Home Free won) doing a live version of "I Need Your Love" (I think you already reacted to the official video for that one). It starts around three and a half minutes in here kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZKSBxNuokZO1lNo.html if you want to check it out.

I think it's fair to say Avi did not WANT to leave. You can see in the goodbye video(s) he would have liked to always be in Pentatonix, but when he stepped down, he knew he couldn't come back. Life pulled him away, and he did what he had to. Both PTX and Avi are doing well now. Scott has some great side projects and Mitch is about to debut some solo stuff. Plus Superfruit. And K.O. Everyone in this group is still climbing They

Let's just say that there was a LOT more to Avi's departure than what has been said in the "official story". It had been building up for a while, and then after he left, the lawyers got involved and things actually did get nasty. All the talk of it being an "amicable" departure was quite a bit overstated. At this point, he would never go back unless some major mending of fences went on behind the scenes. He is still close friends with Kevin, but no longer has any apparent relationship at all with the other members.

That weird synth thing was Avi doing overtone singing! Where he sings a bass note and a higher tone at the same time. It was so cool that he could add that to the mix, almost like they had a 6th singer. He did it in the first performance, too, a whistle tone during Mitch's solo, and the whirring during Kirstie's solo. I don't know that the judges ever knew who was doing it, because they never mentioned it in their comments. There are videos of him doing it - check out Avi Kaplan Overtone singing. That clip with Avi talking at the end always gets me. There are actually two more performances, #13 Without You and #14 Una Noche. Hope you can react to those, too.

Avi was doing overtone singing when you stopped it near the beginning. Everyone, including the judges, always seemed to miss it. If you don't know what that is, look up Avi doing overtone singing. There are several demonstration videos where he tries to teach it - I think to A Cappella Academy is one of the better ones. This was one of my favs from the Sing Off. Thanks.

Fun Fact: Mitch is left-handed. I didn't notice until now but I think that he held the mic with his right hand for choreography purposes.

Fun facts: They couldn't get their act together during rehearsals. Scott had a cold and kept losing his voice. Their harmonies were off. They walked out on that stage thinking they were going to do horribly and that was going to be the end of the road for them. That's why they cut loose and let it all out. That was their do or die moment. All of Scott's voice cracking at the end there, how much effort and power he's putting into it, that's because it was starting to give out again and he was losing his voice. Mitch hadn't done any solo stuff before because he was too shy and he thought his voice was too high and girlish, and the group had to encourage him to do this one. His confidence has come a looooong way since then. And lastly, like others have said before me, that "synth" sound you hear is Avi's overtone singing. He's singing two notes at once and this isn't the first time that he's done it. It's part of what gave PTX such a unique sound prior to him leaving, which he did because he was trying to juggle their intense tour schedule while making frequent trips back home because his mother had cancer.

They had about half a week to prepare for this performance. Scott's voice was already tired; he'd been their lead singer for 10 solid weeks, belting it out in every performance, and he was coming down with a cold on top of everything else. They'd had a horrible, out-of-tune dress rehearsal, and they went into this performance convinced that they were going to blow it. The one thing they could retrieve from it would be to finally introduce the world to the wonder that is Mitch Grassi's voice (something that they'd been working toward but unable to do until then because the producers were afraid that if people heard Mitch's high register it would make it obvious that Mitch is gay, which is idiotic). So they went out there, and they gave it their all, for Mitch. And when I say that "they gave it their all" I mean that the vocal fry on Scott's last note was his voice giving out entirely. And their all was not just good enough, it was spectacular. _The Sing-Off_ provided coaches who could and would help out with arrangements and choreography and such; Pentatonix never used that resource. When you watch the performances in order you can see that they spent the season teaching themselves choreography from the ground up, and the choreography in this performance is nothing short of spectacular. The "choo-choo train" sounds that Shawn mentioned wouldn't have been nearly as effective if we hadn't seen Mitch and Kirstie emulating slow moving trains passing each other in opposite directions at the same time. Then their choreography got Mitch to exactly the right place for him to give his solo, at exactly the right time. It had the rest of the band turning their backs on the audience at the beginning of Mitch's solo, so that all attention would be on Mitch (and for those who knew how the producers had treated Pentatonix it was also a statement of exactly what they thought of the producers). It was just a fantastic performance in every way.

After you cover the 3 finale performances, you might want to consider (as one other reactor has) looking at the Opening Numbers for each Sing-Off episode, which combined all the groups remaining each week. They're short, they're fun, they don't need much comment, and you could cover several at a sitting. You can see Scott and Kevin featured from the start, Mitch and Kirstin getting more and more to do each week as they proved their showmanship, and Avi happy to just stand at the back. :) Most of all, they contain PTX's actual first moment on TV. These have been collected in a playlist: kzread.info/head/PL98CE639CD7C5566B

What you talking only ONE more? There's at least two, possibly three or four. One more song as a group song on the finals night, "Without You," and then a song with Nick Lashay, "Just One Night," at a minimum. They also sang a PTXed version of a Justin Bieber carol for the Christmas, "With you." You've gone this far, why stop now? Plus, there is their final song, "The Eye of the Tiger," which you have to see in its entirety, rather than in the abbreviated version in the final minute of the Sing-Off, (kzread.info/dash/bejne/l2RpptNrY93IocY.html)
