This is one of my faves on the show! So theatrical, which is right up the trio's alley! Mitch blew me away because he was doing harmonies to Scott AND Kirstie, one right after the other! And if you watch Kevin, Mitch, and Avi in the background, you can see them looking back and forth between Scott and Kirstie while they were 'fighting'. Just so clever!!

From what I heard they were the only group to actually mash their songs, rather than just doing one then the other like a medley. So clever even back then

That's exactly right. The others just did medleys.

They actually WERE having some trouble getting this one put together because of how tough these two songs were to mashup...but they proved with this that they are literally the MASTERS of mashups and have been ever since. It should be noted that all the other contestants did straight-up medleys and not mashups. This is definitely where the "KAVI" rumors started. Despite all those rumors, they were never really a couple, but they sure enjoyed flirting with each other the whole time Avi was in the group (I think the two of them may have actually had little crushes on each other for a while but never actually acted on it). I've always believed that this is why Kirstie looked so absolutely devastated in the video where Avi announced he was leaving the group. After several references to Avi & Kevin as "Meat and Potatoes", this was where Shawn actually officially named them that, and would stick with them for the rest of Avi's time in the group. There are three more performances after this one before the winning announcement. They had basically won the contest after #10. I see #11 as icing on the cake and #12 as the ultimate mic drop. #12 was the last performance to depend on the judges. #13 & 14 were both dependent on the live TV audience's votes during Finale night. 13 was a bit rough due to technical problems with the live telecast that night, but they recovered. #14 is a real blast where they team up to sing with Nick Lachey.

They actually came back twice. Once the next season and once during a Christmas special.

Speaking of Avi - he announced today that he has been made an ambassador for Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. When you get to Avi's music probably Born in California would be appropriate under the circumstances 🙂

A well-deserved honor for him. I can't think of anyone more appropriate.

This, their 11th performance, is fully equal to their much-praised #10 and 12. It's genius-level arranging to figure out this kind of line-by-line mingling of the two songs and make it work both musically and dramatically. I've seen it dozens of times now, and I'm astonished all over again each time. Even their later mashups, like Daft Punk and New Rules, wonderful though they are, aren't more advanced than this. After you finish their Sing-Off performances, you might want to take a look at the opening numbers for the shows, in which all the groups remaining are mingled together. You can see Scott featured from the start (each group was required to designate a "lead singer" for this purpose), Kevin right away as well, Kirstie and Mitch working their way to the front quickly as they showed how easily and well they handled solos, and Avi happy to be buried in back where he didn't have to move. :) They're short, don't call for much comment, and can be grouped 4 to 6 in one reaction. This one is my favorite because of the drama in the songs and the way they told the story.

Yep! They knew very well that you couldn't say (or sing) that word on network TV, so they found a clever workaround that was also effective musically & dramatically.

Can't wait for #12! Looking forward to it!

They were out of tune several times in this performance, and I remember being nervous for them because of it. But the next performance made their win a 110 percent certainty. In my opinion, it is one of their best live performances ever. I will once again be stalking my KZread feed continuously for the next performance reaction.

I'm pretty sure it was intentional dissonance, not being out-of-tune, other than the one time Ben pointed out. PTX sure loves using complicated music devices like that!

Thanks for your reaction. This was a great one but now I'm on pins and needles waiting for the 12th performance. It is one of their all time best performances and in my top 3 even to this day. I'm so excited to see your reaction.

👋😐Dennis!! They did have trouble figuring this mashup out!! THIS IS THE FIRST TIME they tried this!! After The Sing Off they found the formula on doing the mashups and medleys! They talk about this later when they reflect on their journey! ....This is why I hate the fan or fans that make all the new reactors believe that there was a lot of made up drama. They were not perfect they were still figuring it out. If you listen closely they do get out of tune in some of the transitions. You can clearly see after The Sing Off, early videos where they are still testing/trying new things and ways of perfecting their sound, mashups, medleys...

But being tired and exhausted and worried...YES!!!

Great reaction! I’m so glad you are reacting to their return performances! They did I Need Your Love in Season 4 and an amazing Holiday Medley in Season 5 (includes a really cool breakdown and also their original, That’s Christmas to Me). Can’t wait for you to see how much they grew just in the couple of years after the Sing Off. :)

There were a few minor tuning issues throughout the series. Fortunately, the only time they really had an issue was after the voting was done and they did a song during the finale that was way out of tune. Number 12 sealed it for them, and both return performances in following seasons are phenomenal.

At pentacon with the parents mitch's dad said mitch wanted to come home too much stress and anxiety but they signed at 8 week contract.

There were some other really good groups, but Pentatonix was way above the rest.

When it first came out, it wasn't known as Forgit You. It was F##k You. Of course they couldn't put that on the airwaves so he re-recorded substituting Forgit.

How did Avi end up as "potatoes"? It sounded like it was all one song to me.

Scott lost his voice during the week. The last rehersal for the 12th one was a fail. Check their face at th begining of the 12th one during presentation.... they look not really confident. In the opening number of the show for the 11 and 12 performance if you check close often scott not sing when not in his solo part to try to keep voice for their 2 performances of the night

Nah they were definitely out of tune a couple of times in the chorus...mainly Kirsty I think.
