Avi's course needed a different track and Matt brings his own magic. He's a bass, but he's not the same bass Avi was - which proves the integrity of the group. They can absorb the new style and talent and work it into the whole instead of making the sound conform to what came before.

The thing that still gets me is they do this with just their 5 human(inhuman) voices. Lordy I LOVE it when Kirstie goes to her power vocals, just LOVE IT!!!! Each and everyone of them is so special. Don't know about ranking but every version of this song i have ever heard is good. That's a tribute to Paul Simon's writing.

As a child of the 60’s I grew up on the original Simon and Garfunkel song. I knew the words but never cared much for the song. Then I heard Disturbed sing it and it made the words pop for me and I love that version. Pentatonix put out their version and I again fell in love with their version. On another video I read a message that said Disturbed’s version shows the helplessness of the song and Pentatonix version is the Optimistic side. Can’t agree more with that comment. I love both versions equally.

Paul Simon wrote this on his own. In 1964ish. It was on his Paul Simon Song Book LP. Which I bought, I think, in 1965. And STILL HAVE IT! His quite, reflective; introverted, gentle vesion - with beautiful accoustic only accompaniment - is the antithesis of the the crude, hyped up 'made for cash' version subsequently put out with Garfunkell, under pressure from their management. Try and find it and have a listen. (And I love this version).

nice reaction! I agree that this is a great rendition...just as chilling as Disturbed's.I've heard that the original was a warning, Disturbed's was anger that the warning hadn't been heeded and PTX's is hope that finally the warning will be heeded. Whenever the bass ( Avi or Matt) sings verse or lead, Scott takes over the bassline. It's hard to catch in videos because the camera focus is mostly on the singer and much of the bass is humming or just a word or two.

tip! When reacting to Pentatonix it’s best to listen with earphones 😊 you’ll hear the blend, bass, harmonies alot better (especially the bass!)

The three main versions are Simon and Garfunkel which served as a warning. Then Disturbs version, which was anger that the warning was not listened to. And finally Pentatonix which says there is still hope. Listen to them back to back to back. It is amazing the different feel of each.

Pentatonix is one of a kind. Goes directly to the soul, from the first notes. AMAZING❤

This was posted by Pentatonix on February 15, 2019, over 4 years ago. Matt's range appears to still be growing. If you think it was fantastic in this video, I recommend doing a KZread search on "PTX Hallelujah 2023 live feed." That should get you several hits on extremely good videos of Pentatonix performing "Hallelujah" in concert during their recent world tour. Their current arrangement for the second verse seems to have been designed to let Matt show off his full range. He isn't QUITE down to basso profundo yet, but he's getting close, and on the upper end I believe that he can sing higher than Scott! Utterly spectacular.

Love this. Matt has great potential to take PTX to higher heights. His range is still growing. This is exactly what Kirstie has done after growing as a vocalist from her time on broadway. She’s now more dynamic, powerful and confident.

Everything Pentatonix do is next level! 💞 They even did a “100 songs in ten minutes” challenge and got 95 of them done , I’m pretty sure it’s still the highest record for it 👌🏽 They’re awesome at what they do as individuals but when they come together as a group it’s just incredible, and it doesn’t matter if there’s a change in the lineup, still 💯!

They are amazing. That isn't even a strong enough word. I am blown away by how much true emotion is in every song they sing. You can tell when an artist basically 'phoning in' a performance and not feeling it or giving it their all, but that never happens with this group. It's always their 'A Game' and you just get lost in listening to them.
