Tons of people are upset Avi left, but he left for mental health healing. Matt I feel is a fantastic addition. He has a wonderful range.

Avi's course needed a different track and Matt brings his own magic. He's a bass, but he's not the same bass Avi was - which proves the integrity of the group. They can absorb the new style and talent and work it into the whole instead of making the sound conform to what came before.

Avis mom was very sick and he wanted to spend time at home with her as well as being tired of touring..so he made the decision to leave. This from what I've read
Did you also catch that Scott takes over the baseline when Matt’s singing? They are magical. I love this version.
All five of them have absolutely insane ranges. It makes them so flexible! I remember hearing Scott talk about arranging "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" and he was like, "Can we start this higher and then key change up twice?" Yes, yes, of course they could, lol
The thing that still gets me is they do this with just their 5 human(inhuman) voices. Lordy I LOVE it when Kirstie goes to her power vocals, just LOVE IT!!!! Each and everyone of them is so special. Don't know about ranking but every version of this song i have ever heard is good. That's a tribute to Paul Simon's writing.
Not even a minute into the song and I am crying already I am a mess. I have never heard of this group before. Now I feel like I have missed something magical I definitely want to hear more More MORE from this group. Absolutely BLEW ME AWAY THANK-YOU SO MUCH

Oh, you are in for a treat! I recommend Hallelujah if you haven’t already dove into the Pentatonix channel.
You definitely need headphones when you listen to pentatonix. Sound of silence is incredible but amazing grace is unbelievable. PLEASE, PLEASE React to that one. 😍😍

Yes, their Amazing Grace from 3? years ago is wow and Kirstens vibrato is even stronger in that one
Their versions of Bohemian Rhapsody, Amazing Grace, and Hallelujah are not to be missed.
All 4 versions are cool. They are like totally different songs & amazing in their own right. That being said, this is still my fav. '
Props indeed to Matt! The fact that he made it into PTX says it all. Thanks for posting this beautiful rendition and your reaction to it. The goosies go without saying. Let’s have more! Subbed!
As a child of the 60’s I grew up on the original Simon and Garfunkel song. I knew the words but never cared much for the song. Then I heard Disturbed sing it and it made the words pop for me and I love that version. Pentatonix put out their version and I again fell in love with their version. On another video I read a message that said Disturbed’s version shows the helplessness of the song and Pentatonix version is the Optimistic side. Can’t agree more with that comment. I love both versions equally.
I can’t say how many times I’ve watched reactions to this song and every single time I get chills from their performance. I’m old enough to have been around for the original with Simon and Garfunkel but this will always be my favorite version. But I love it when the person react and gets blown away.
This is great live. Matt especially sounds exactly the same live.
This always gives me chills. Matt's velvety voice is always great to hear. Don't know if you have checked out their cover of Creep yet, but if not you must hear it, but the version after they were unmasked on The Masked Singer is the best one to watch.

Paul Simon wrote this on his own. In 1964ish. It was on his Paul Simon Song Book LP. Which I bought, I think, in 1965. And STILL HAVE IT! His quite, reflective; introverted, gentle vesion - with beautiful accoustic only accompaniment - is the antithesis of the the crude, hyped up 'made for cash' version subsequently put out with Garfunkell, under pressure from their management. Try and find it and have a listen. (And I love this version).

@@elizabethwakefield8894 Disturbed's is like the rage that accompanies deafening silence and PTX's is like the optimism that follows rage.
If you haven't checked out PTX's Amazing Grace, I highly recommend it as well.
You need to hear their version of the Leonard Cohen song Hallelujah! It's amazing!!!!
Acapella with headphones, so much better 😂
Each member of Pentatonix is uniquely gifted in the individual range abilities. Together they're a powerful, yet calming force to listen to.
Pentatonic,, they all are amazingly talented! They are the band the voices that does it all! Never be another group like this! Broke the mold!
I always say the Pentatonix version is the best. Love it ❤❤
Absolutely love PTX. Would love to see more of them on your channel!!
Unless your speakers are fabulous i suggest always wearing headphones. Makes everything more intense. Really lovin' your reaction videos.
They amaze me in everything they do. All of them are talented beyond belief. It’s hard to pick favorites but I think their cover of Shallow is better than the original. Kevin plays an instrument and does the base beat. I also love their version of “Imagine”. The video is perfect and brings tears to my eyes every time.
Gives me chills....
I grew up listening to Simon and Garfunkel. I liked Disturbed's version too, but this one resonates on a different level.
Don't know if you've heard "Kevin's 5th" yet. I was absolutely blown away by this piece. Just Kevin, his cello, and beat boxing at the same time. Matt comes in for some percussion, but honestly, it's a treat for the ears.
massive boots to fill and he fills them just fine. avi has phenomenal talent but so does matt. avi is making his own music now and his talent and soul are meant to be there and u can tell from the change of genre that is what avi wanted . matt has a voice that deserves to be heard for what it is and he deserves to be making music how he wants to. im just so happy we can hear such talent, wherever they choose to go with it.
I have heard it hundreds of times and still get goosebumps! Sometimes at different parts of the song.
Thanks Jamie for requesting this incredible song and thx for the reaction!! ❤
No matter how many times that I hear this…I get a full body shiver!!!
nice reaction! I agree that this is a great rendition...just as chilling as Disturbed's.I've heard that the original was a warning, Disturbed's was anger that the warning hadn't been heeded and PTX's is hope that finally the warning will be heeded. Whenever the bass ( Avi or Matt) sings verse or lead, Scott takes over the bassline. It's hard to catch in videos because the camera focus is mostly on the singer and much of the bass is humming or just a word or two.
I have chills on top chills. They sing magic ❤
I grew up in the 60's and always loved Simon and Garfunkel but this version left me in a happier place than other remakes I've heard
More freaking basslines from Matt: a sliding bass in „Havanna“!
Have you reacted yet to Pentatonix' Imagine? That's a great one to do...
Goosebumps every time! No one does it like PTX!
I got VIP tickets to see them for the first time this September. So excited!! 🎉🎉❤
I love Pentatonix. I listen to them every day. They are angels. Pleaee react to more. I suggest "Joyful Joyful" Live from the evergreen experience. Its an amazing Live performance.
I have listened to this song 3 times now and the reaction to their voices cut into my soul. and make me glad I'm alive. The words are so profound and beautiful This has made me very happy I have heard other versions and of course the original but this group by far nails it !!!
Their sound is referred to as "the wall of sound"...
Love Disturbed version
Headphones...! Listening without them is missing half the amazing sound!
I never get tired of this version - unbelievable ❤
Chills? Oh yesssss. I rate it A++++ 🌟
I love the way you displayed the guitars!
A Pentatonix rabbit hole would be great. I love your reactions and have been waiting for ptx reactions. If you think you have goosebumps now, use the headphones.
Great reaction 👍. Not many reactions i watch pick up on all the note changes from high to low and back again, it's crazy good.
Great reaction. I think you would LOVE their Amazing Grace. It is a spiritual experience.
I love listening to Matt in 'You're a Mean one Mr. Grinch'. "Come Along"' is pretty fun too...Matt sings a little bit in that one too.
Bohemian Rhapsody. Amazing Grace. Imagine. Hallelujah has 711 million views on the vevo alone. I’m sure I’ve read that between all of the postings it’s over 1 billion now. Be ready to get Mitch-Slapped in every song. Kevin is the beat boxer. All of these people have talents you can even imagine. They have yet to do a bad song.
this version of theirs is really great. who else has sung this version great is disturbed you will also be able to do that you will really love it.
This is a a great rendition. Love ptx they're all so talented. Listen to Elvis bridge over troubled waters (new mix better sound) love your reactions they're so authentically from the heart,
They all can sing and do many things. Kevin has a beautiful voice to and can play many instruments including the cello
The talent in this group is unbelievable. I love their version of Shallow.❤
PTX don’t do covers, they do upgrades. Subbing to see more PTX reactions!
You'll get this a lot, but headphones are a MUST while listening to Pentatonix! There's so much that can't really be noticed without them.
PENTATONIX really are insane, yes I had the chills too!! Love them to bits! xx
thanks to Simon & Garfunkel for writing this classic over 50 years ago, making it possible for Disturbed, Pentatonix and others to re-interpret the message....that society was becoming de-personalized, withdrawn and accepting of "silence" to the realities of the world.........I, like many my age, received by first singing instruction in school choir....since then, I have been partial to good a capella singing........Pentatonix is good !
Wow all have incredible voices n range love it
Matt is AWESOME! I love them all but Matt is so special with his insane range (Scott too) and funny, charismatic personality. This is my first time on your channel and I’m going to look right now at your other reactions 😊
So pleased you got round to watching this. Matt is amazing and a great addition when avi left. Would love to see you react more to ptx. Apart from the original this for me is the best cover version. Great reaction
For more goosebumps from Matt, watch Prayers for This World.
I know it's not Christmas time, But! You have Got to listen to they're cover of Mary Did You Know. This song is what hooked me and made me a forever fan of this miraculous group of singers. Just Awesome.
Since I retired, and about to be 68, I have been getting my affairs in order just in case. I have specified that the Pentatonix version of both Hallelujah and the Sounds of Silence be played at my memorial service. Cremation urn will have and open book with words inscribed. The time has come, the stories over. Thought I'd something more to say. (Pink Floyd quote from Time)
I've seen numerous versions of this cover and many of them are great. But of all of them, THIS is my all-time favorite version. I love it even more than the original Simon and Garfunkel version in NYC Central Park which blew me away way back then when I saw it on TV LIVE.There are certainly other outstanding performances i.e.Disturbed both their video and the one of them on late-night TV. But, NONE, IMHO beat this one. Thank you for all your delightful reviews. I've been following for a long time now and I'm always delighted to find a new one when I come online to see my music.
listen to their version weekly, at the very least, (obv after loving the original so fully), and never tire of the goosebumps. thank you for sharing yr reaction - biggest love from chicago :)
They crushed that song, that was A-MAZ-ING! My only thing is it always feels like Kirstin holds back a little, maybe that’s what they tell her to do but I just wish they’d let her really cut loose. Don’t get me wrong, she is phenomenal but I really want her to belt out in parts she clearly holds back!
Thanks hadnt heard this one yet so got to listen first time with you you and your beautiful wife have a fan ...
The Sound of Silence was written by Paul Simmon who first recorded it with his partner Author Garfunkel in 1964. By the time I heard it in 1967, it had become a hit worldwide. Simmon and Garfunkel remain heroes to me to this day 56 years later. Pentonix's version is the first I have heard since the original that like as well. Matt’s dad is the worship leader at their church. Matt grew up in church and has an absolutely beautiful voice IMO! ❤
every single time I hear this cover I get chills.
All 5 of them are incredibly talented on their own but together they are by far the best group to ever sing anything.
They are very Blessed,i always get goosebumps
Matt has a beautiful, beautiful voice. A great replacement for the original bass...AVI.
I disagree about the live version, the one at the Hollywood Bowl (2022) is amazing

I think she was referring to the first one. It was on Kimmel live and the show forced a whole frickin drum line on them in the closing verse. Universally hated by fans and PTX themselves. But yeah, the livestreams from Yale or the Hollywood Bowl are available now and are fabulous!
Pentatonix is one of those groups where you really need to watch the video multiple times and focus on a different person each time. That way you're "highlighting" each performance individually. btw, do yourself a favor and watch Pentatonix's version of Amazing Grace/My Chains are Gone. Absolutely stunning!
I've heard this dozens of times ... and I STILL get goosebumps. Absolutely fantastic version of this song.
I saw someone make the comment a long time ago that Simon and Garfunkel's original is melancholy, Disturbed is angry, and Pentatonix is hopeful. It's stuck with me all this time because it feels so true.
Have you tried the original by Simon and Garfunkel it’s really good and how this song came about was that Paul Simon had A dream about the future and that’s where this song came from.

Ahh! I'd not heard that. I was a tween when they released their original song, but I've never heard an explanation for why it was written.
You should watch their live performance of "Seasons of love" . It's epic. Also "My Heart With You " and "Run To You "is gorgeous. "New Rules x Are you That Somebody", "Gold" and "can't hold us" are totally different vibe and amazing... Also check out their originals!! SO. GOOD.
Bro wasn't ready for the rush lol 😂
Thank you for your great reaction to this beautiful Pentatonix video. I agree, they are awesome.
I call Matt the Lion King and Kevin is Special K!
I like the original and the covers you mentioned but PTX is the one on my playlist ❤️
When you start playing Christmas music for the Holiday season, check out "You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch". Matt gives a truly fantastic performance as the lead throughout the song, and it is loads of fun to watch!
Hello, I enjoyed your reaction to Pentatonix:s cover of the song, The Sound of Silence. You seem to appreciate various types of talent, so, I am requesting that you please react to Cab Calloway and the Nicholas brothers performance of Jumping Jive. Thank you.
You must listen to Pentatonic with headphones on - their layered harmonies are EPIC! You can hear every voice so succinctly and clearly. They are WICKED TALENTED!!! They have covers of songs that will bring you to tears!
Easily the most talented group of people in any genre of music
I love disturbed's version but this has been my fave since i first heard it!
I’d LOVE to see you go down the Pentatonix rabbit hole. They were on a show called the Sing Off.
tip! When reacting to Pentatonix it’s best to listen with earphones 😊 you’ll hear the blend, bass, harmonies alot better (especially the bass!)
The three main versions are Simon and Garfunkel which served as a warning. Then Disturbs version, which was anger that the warning was not listened to. And finally Pentatonix which says there is still hope. Listen to them back to back to back. It is amazing the different feel of each.
Pentatonix is one of a kind. Goes directly to the soul, from the first notes. AMAZING❤
This was posted by Pentatonix on February 15, 2019, over 4 years ago. Matt's range appears to still be growing. If you think it was fantastic in this video, I recommend doing a KZread search on "PTX Hallelujah 2023 live feed." That should get you several hits on extremely good videos of Pentatonix performing "Hallelujah" in concert during their recent world tour. Their current arrangement for the second verse seems to have been designed to let Matt show off his full range. He isn't QUITE down to basso profundo yet, but he's getting close, and on the upper end I believe that he can sing higher than Scott! Utterly spectacular.

Love this. Matt has great potential to take PTX to higher heights. His range is still growing. This is exactly what Kirstie has done after growing as a vocalist from her time on broadway. She’s now more dynamic, powerful and confident.
Had chills the whole time. Wow 😮
Everything Pentatonix do is next level! 💞 They even did a “100 songs in ten minutes” challenge and got 95 of them done , I’m pretty sure it’s still the highest record for it 👌🏽 They’re awesome at what they do as individuals but when they come together as a group it’s just incredible, and it doesn’t matter if there’s a change in the lineup, still 💯!
More Pentatonix please
They are amazing. That isn't even a strong enough word. I am blown away by how much true emotion is in every song they sing. You can tell when an artist basically 'phoning in' a performance and not feeling it or giving it their all, but that never happens with this group. It's always their 'A Game' and you just get lost in listening to them.
best cover of this song. Paul Simon even said that
