    I actually like this version better than the studio one. It highlights each individual voice better without losing anything in the ensemble. And yes a lot of the PTX artistry gets missed because they DO make it look so easy. Even back on the Sing-Off there were subtleties that nobody ever realized where there. Bravo!!

    Can we talk about the balance though ?? The sound is crystal clear, every single voice is distinguishable, the harmonies blend in PERFECTLY... Thanks a lot mic guys, it's the best live audio of this song I've heard. At last, tech guys who actually know how to record an acapella group !

    Personally, I would like increase the bass EQ for the C2s, but by far the most beautiful mic job i have ever heard for a live performance outside of their own concerts. I applaud both the mic job and Pentatonix!

    Scott and Kevin's parts in this song are so underrated. their clashing harmonies are incredible. and i will fully admit I'm hysterically crying and this is the 10000th time I've heard this song, but the first time I've heard it in a live recording, and what a difference.

    No one is mentioning how well Kirstie did in this, especially the building part (I guess it's like the bridge but not quite) where she was singing the highest part. She's so underrated in this group--everyone talks about Mitch or Avi (who are both super talented and totally deserve the praise) although the others deserve praise just as much! Kevin too, since this is the only song that he sings the entire time!

    Yeah, a few people give her a hard time but she, IMO, is hands down one of the top harmonizers of all time. That's not an easy skill and her backup vocals enrich the melody on every single song. As a front singer, she may not have a powerful voice like Carey, Houston or a few others but I like the accuracy and delicacy of her voice. And on songs like this, it's perfection.

  • @hegraditama

    @hegraditama

    9 жыл бұрын

    that's what i thought of her too! being a harmonizer is not easy, and with the high range of parts she sang in their pieces, often made her a 'measure' to make sure the whole group is still on pitch. and this is a cappella, which is a priority to be on pitch.

    universe93 Well, in this live performance he sounds good, but in the original track he's almost muted. You can't hear much of his voice--or at least *I* can't. He has a good voice; he's had a few solo parts in some songs and I really enjoy listening to him. And if he sounds good, I'm not getting why they wouldn't turn up the volume just a bit on the original track. I can hear Avi, Mitch, and Kirstie immediately in the track and because I know Scott's voice so well, I can pick it out. However, I can't hear Kevin's. In this live performance, I can pick him out pretty quickly. I know he's not classically trained, but wouldn't that mean that it'd be hard to pick him out in a live performance rather than a studio version? In the studio, the musical engineer can turn up or down his volume on the track, in a live performance, it's all up to Kevin. I'm just having trouble understanding why he would be (intentionally?) muted on the studio version. Or is that Kevin just progressively got better with the song and became more comfortable with his part that he eventually turned up his volume during concerts?

    It actually has little to do with Kevin's singing abilities. Part of the reason is because who ever mixed this performance is panning people based on where they're standing. So Avi's sound is coming all the way out the left ear and Kevin all the way on the right. It makes the blend a little imperfect but shows off the individuals. Maybe not ideal for this kind of arrangement.

    A.W.E.S.O.M.E. and I've listened to Run To You too many times to count since it was first released. This work demonstrates some new dimensions to their incredible individual & collective talents that were a COMPLETE SURPRISE. For example, K.O.'s vocal talent in creating those 5-part harmonies is stunning. Maybe I should have guessed that he could SING like that; but I didn't. As a group, these kids have SO much to offer that I expect "Pentatonix" to have some longevity. And, even should they go their separate ways, they EACH have talents to please us in their art for a long, long time!

    I love how beautiful this sounds. Most of the time, you can hear only parts of Avi's performance and can hear Scott and Mitch clearly, but in this version, I could hear everyone's part uniquely and uniformly. I can hear how amazing Kevin's singing voice is. We don't hear it much in songs because he's either supplying the rhythm or beatboxing, but his voice is amazing. It blew me away. I was at first confused because I have listened to this song multiple times and have never heard the sections he sung. These mics are really amazing and pick up everyone very well. I wish these were the sort that everyone could supply so we could hear how beautiful all 5 of them sound all the time.

    Wow sounds EXACTLY the same live! Watching a live video helped me pick Kevin's voiceout of this song, When I'm just listening to the song it's really hard to find him when they harmonize

    First it was "only" beautiful, but the more I listen the sadder it get's.. I think it's unhealthy to listen to it 4 days straight 24h.. and I can't stop

  • @razrv3lc
    @razrv3lc9 жыл бұрын

    It's not the mics. You can hear them all well because of the mixing. You usually can't hear one or the other well because most venues don't know how to mix for an acapella group and wind up mixing the same way they would a regular band.

    I really love this performance of Run to You. The pacing is perfect -- oftentimes their live performances drag a bit for my taste. The quality of the recording is just stellar, congrats to NPR for that. That chord transition at 3:21-3:25 just gives me chills. What an awesome composition and performance.

    I agree with you. When they perform this in concert is definitely is a bit slower and I think it drags. I like the pace here much better

    Well, wot do I say I'm not normally anyone to over-exaggerate but on ths occasion I can safely say that was f@$king awesome!! I keep on playing it back cuz I can't get over tht its human voices in live acapella rather than manufactured harmony done by computers, it's truly unreal!!
