The first, second, and last songs were original songs. They write incredible original songs.

They refer to themselves as a band and to each other as band mates. I look forward to seeing them live. In less than a week!

Kevin and Avi are probably the hardest-working members of the band. They are non-stop through the whole set. That sharp drop at the beginning of Water? That's them together, synched up carefully to make a bass drum kick in time with the water drops on the video. And it's far more than 25 songs, because there are a bunch of things they *only* do in concert, probably because of copyright claims on recorded material. Even with just official recordings, there are more than a hundred unique PTX videos online. Of course if they got some special request to do something from their early days, they'd have to dig it up and practice a few times, remind themselves of how it goes. But it's like knowing how to drive to a bunch of different places: one turn reminds you of the next, once you're actually out there. And that's how it is with music: one note, one word, and you know where to go next.

Oh, they screw up. There's a fan-made video of bloopers on-stage. Tripping, dropping mics, audio equipment fails, forgetting choreography, wrong notes and screwed up lyrics. Scott is especially notorious for forgetting lyrics. There's also a pretty good video of them performing Perfume live... and Kirstin totally flubbed the background lyrics during Mitch's solo. You can clearly see it because the cameraman was ALWAYS on Kirstin and she made a face and glanced ar Scott like "oops, did you notice?" They also have teleprompters at the front of the stage. One of the 2019 PTXperience (mini-documentary) episodes has Scott and Mitch telling Matt about a concert where their teleprompter went out for 3 songs and Scott was freaking out because he didn't know the lyrics to the next song. And lastly, Mitch has said they have metronome clicks playing in their in-ears to help them keep time.

They are live performance pros. Before COVID they were on concert tours several months each year. And yes, they are a band. 😀

Yes, like every other singer they have spent alot of time singing that song. The fist one is on their second album. It is all their original songs. I love it. Thanks for this reaction. 😁😁😎

They do call themselves a band because even with no instruments they create the "music" part too (plus there's the small # of songs where Kevin plays his cello & there's 1 where Scott plays piano). Musicians all must have great memories to remember so many songs, cause like you said I sure couldn't do that either. But I've heard Mitch say that they all do still get nervous (especially him) before a live show. I guess with practice though performers are able to suppress it & once on stage they get into the music itself & forget their nervousness.

I swear some people don’t know what Avi does, it’s so interesting lol! KEVIN BEATBOXES (creates beats with his mouth) AVI IS A BASS SINGER (creates the amazing low bass guitar sounds you most likely hear in your headphones… not a beatboxer) Sorry if this sounded snippy, I just sometimes feel people have no idea how important Avi (and Matt) are, and how hard it is to be a professional bass… he doesn’t not do anything the whole time and then sometimes has a solo with his low voice. Hopefully that made sense, have fun exploring this amazing talented group! 🥰

I think that's why a lot of people encourage PTX reactors to view the Sing Off episode. It gives them a good since of their process. So many different reactors bring their own experiences from ones who were in choir in HS or college to those who have only seen Pitch Perfect. Then you have the ones who come in knowing nothing.

I sing in shows where I need to memorize a dozen or so songs, sometimes in foreign languages I don't know anything about (Russian, Finnish, Romanian). When you start working on a song, you don't know how you are going to remember it, but you just sing it over and over and eventually your brain just gives in and stores it for you. Then there is a period where you have it memorized but you have to really think to recall the words, and occasionally get stuck. But if you keep going, your brain just has it, and you can sing it on automatic without having to think at all. And remember, for this show they don't just have to remember the song, they have to remember where to move next, and whether to take the microphone with them, and what gestures to make with their arms.

Who else can fill a Tokyo concert stadium without instruments and be so popular that part of their concert is on MTV Tokyo Kirsten and Mitch are both dressed as Anime characters in a nod to Japan. I like that they are respectful of where they are in the world

Avi's (AH-vee) voice is like a simulation of a bass guitar or a double bass (the largest stringed instrument used in jazz songs). They rehearse A LOT!!! Kirstie wrote "Water".

they definitely have to practice but they are really really good at what they do, like you said. also i feel like kevin, avi/matt and whoever is not singing the lead have the hardest job. like imagine memorizing 20 songs where you don't really sing any words??? but just sounds. lmao that seems impossible to me but it is definitely possible for them. i've been a fan of ptx since 2013 and i still can't comprehend how they memorize sounds
