The fact that this sounds as good, or BETTER than the studio version, in this live performance, stuns me every time. They are so insanely talented and mesh sooo well, its bonkers.
Scott taking over the bass live is so impressive to me 😊

It is good that he learned to sing down to bass because until he did you will notice there was no bass line when Avi ever sang (think of Mary Did You Know) but it is something the other acapella bands all do. One band where they specifically recruited a baritone who could cover bass well is Homefree. Adam Chance had been singing bass in Streetcorner Symphony until Homefree recruited him to be able to take over for Tim Foust so Tim could sing in the rest of his upper range which, like Avi's (if you listen to what he does now) is very large.

@@gailseatonhumbert I think Scott covered the bass when they were a trio, there is also an extremely old video of Scott doing, tell your momma on ya (I believe that’s the name). I think sometimes they make choices that don’t require the baseline, and sometimes they don’t.

Besides how good their vocals are, it is their ability to connect emotionally with the lyrics that makes them outstanding.

I was really bewildered when I read a comment, I think on one of the reactions to the "Dear Evan Hansen" video, and the commenter said he preferred the original stage actor's version "because he conveys the emotions." Like Scott didn't. I was shocked, as that's one of PTX's strongest talents is making you FEEL.
As it's been said Pentatonix "HUMS" better than most people sing !👏💜💜
Being a true Pentaholic, I find myself constantly hearing someone else's song and wondering how PTX would upgrade it and take it to a phenomenal level. Can't they just upgrade them all?
I absolutely love this live the best bit is when the crowd goes wild when Mitch starts singing ☺️
I think this sounds better than the studio version. I think when they perform live they put more feeling in their songs.

When they have a really good sound engineer with them, the live performances are stunning. I find myself a little "meh" when I'm watching someone's phone recording of most performances, or worse, some random TV show that doesn't know how to deal with an a capella group. Sometimes they are pretty good - but not often enough, for me. THIS one, however, is unbelievably good. It's at least AS GOOD as the studio version, and better in a few ways.
Because PTX insists on being able to sing live any of their own songs and/or covers, we get unbelievable performances like this. My mind is blown every time I hear this live version.
They are in a league of their own. Absolutely amazing as a live performance. No one will ever be as good as they are. Very emotional to listen to it is really so good it’s very moving. Brilliant reaction smiler to an amazing group 👏👏👏
I love Scott doing the bass while avi is singing ❤️
Makes me cry every time. Wonderful group of people! Very blessed and using their gifts to the fullest.
Kirstin vocals are stunning...I agree. Mitch sounded great too especially with Avi supporting with his bass ....
I cry every time when it’s life. I have NEVER heard a cover of this song sang better! If someone can find one I will listen! This song on here is so much more touching because it is live. I’m still crying right now. Going to watch your reaction again. I think this version is so organic and not flawed. So glad that you did this live.
I like Scott's choices better in the first verse in the live version. It feels like he could let go a little more with a little less pressure here in keeping to the original. Also though ALL THE PROPS to their sound mixing crew because they are ON TOP of things at all times keeping their levels where they need to be so no one oversings anyone else.
They are talent personified. 🥰
Any doubters need to hear this !!
This is one all Pentaholics love. It’s nostalgic as it represents their first decade of how they approached a capella. As they move into their 2nd decade together they are experimenting a lot, which is awesome, but it means they now sing many songs with a backing track (of their own voices/percussion) which I experienced in concert a few weeks ago (and I know you did too) when they sang I Saw Three Ships and The Prayer. Absolutely phenomenal, but different.
That was gorgeous! Definitely more emotional than the studio version.
Nobody should sound that good live. Unreal talent!
I particularly love this video as it shows that Scott is the one doing the amazing bass while Avi is singing lead. There is no question.

This song gives me chills even after all this time! It’s amazing to see and hear how far they’ve come. I love them so much and truly enjoy spending time with you Travis 😊💕
How you reacted to this is why so many of us love you 💛
Here you can see Avi singing bass with the group, but you can see Scott singing bass when Avi does his part. Both that you can't see in the video. Love it.
It still amazes me that they can sound as good live as they do in their studio produced recordings. That's just insane talent. They affect me emotionally, too Travis. Thanks for the reaction!!!!
I swear I could listen to this one every day! Great reactions as usual.
Masterpiece
I love this so much, one of their best. You all need to check out Kirstin singing never neverland and PTX singing what is this feeling at the Wicked Halloween special. You'll love it!!
I was crying with you. That was beyond beautiful.
Always love your reactions. I agree, I think this sounds a bit better than the recorded version. Amazing. Watch Scott when Avi is singing and you'll see him singing the base line. Also ..love your shirt!!!

Yes you can watch Adam Chance do it in Homefree as well when Tim Foust sings melody. It is why they recruited Adam Chance from Streetcorner Symphony. Tim, and Avi as well, have very impressive upper ranges that they sing in as well as bass lines. Avi's you can hear in what he sings now.
It is so much better and Scott is doing the bass! This is my fave video from them!
Seeing how great their live performance is always blows people's minds. They really are just that good! And did you notice that their outfits were the same as they wore in the outro for the official video? The video was released on Oct. 21, 2016 (which was where I first encountered them and became an instant Pentaholic), so the final preparation of the video for release and the adding of the outro must have been done the same day they filmed the Christmas special.

Give Voiceplay a listen - especially "My Mother Told Me" or "Hoist the Colours" or "Queen in 5 Minutes." They are very theatrical and a lot of fun to watch. I sorta became a convert this past week and have listened to about 30-40 of the various reactors trying to cope with Geoff's bass (F1) in the first two. Great fun.
Because they are that good!!!
They are fabulous in concert!!
I am still pulling for "Valentine" Here's to a great new year.
Please let me be awake for this. Rough night last night. Family stuff. I’m determined to watch this live. Love you Travis. I made it and you didn’t disappoint. Gonna go to sleep happy now 🏴❣️
Thank you Travis!! Hallelujah was the first Pentatonix music video that I saw - they got me hook, line and sinker with it. Then I saw comments to watch the live version, and I did, and realized that Pentatonix is the real deal if their live versions sound as good as, or better than the recorded versions. I am in the waiting room for this premiere!!
BEAUTIFUL

Right there with you.
I missed this one so I'm glad you were able to repost it. Also, I see you recently posted a reaction for Voiceplay doing a medley from the Greatest Showman. PTX recorded a song for the movie soundtrack, a cover of The Greatest Show, which is AMAZING and includes a choir, which I know you love. There's no music video but I'd love it if you reacted to the audio!!
Just beautiful 💗
Excited to hear

Did you see Scott doing the bass when Avi took the lead?
I actually think this performance was acousticly better than the video! Just sayin! 🙂
Evocative...!
Congrats on 28K!!!
I saw you did Auld Lang Syne by Home Free..... would love to see you do PTX! As far as I know there isn't a video, but makes me cry every time I hear it, you can hear it come from their hearts
So. As I mentioned to someone down in the comments, I recently decided to take a look at Voiceplay - and gotta admit that they are addictive as all get out. I'm startled to see that you appear to have never touched on them; at least, I don't see a playlist for them. I am still a bit bewildered by their member list, as they've had two leave the group in 2021. But the core three are still there. Their beatboxer ... man, I'd LOVE to see some kind of tag team thing with him and Kevin. He makes some really INTRIGUING sounds. And their bass is ... well, let's just say that he hits notes that are even lower than Avi. They are insanely FUN to watch - check out either "Hoist the Colours" or "My Mother Told Me" which are two fairly recent drops and are full theater. Just amazing. But be careful - they knock most reactors right off their chairs.

Hey Travis, I don't know if you have heard of this group its call Within Temptation. The song you should do is Angels. The group has a very unique style with a strong female lead singer. I have suggested this song to several reactors to date no one has done it. If you dont do it perhaps you could just listen to it and let me know what upi think of it. Thanks Travis. Great reaction BTW.

For a little diversity try Ghost Love Score by Nightwish. They are a Finish Symphonic Band. You can try Sabaton also . They are a Swedish band that sings about military.
React to cologne, sorry not sorry, pray, the are so good in those songs!
There is a live daft punk from a private phone recording . I down't know how to send them on
Didn't they sing this at the concert you went to ?
Their live performance is stunning. You also have to take into consideration the sound system is top of the line. I don't know why these beautiful young girls feel the need to get botox injections. Our beautiful Kirstie looks like someone gave her a fat upper lip. Her voice was just as beautiful as ever in spite of it.😊❤
There will never be another Avi. Love Matt but really miss Avi.
As much as I love this song (this live version AND the official video) I will never tire of hearing it. However, after watching a few fan videos of them performing it on the last Evergreen tour, I think they may need to retire it from their live concert line-up. Matt and unfortunately Kevin seemed to get into “I can outdo your high note” show-off sessions.....something PTX is famous for NOT doing. It changed the whole mood, tone and feel of the song. I was really disappointed, it didn’t sound good, and I can’t believe the group as a whole supported this. But it happened at more than one venue on this last tour. Opinions?
