Never been around a TMR mix wagon. When I worked at the feedyard we had Roto Mix feed wagons that had a paddle in the center of the wagon with 2 augers on the discharge side. We were feeding fat cattle so we had a finishing ration. Fed corn, corn silage and hay.

Howdy Jake. Those Penta mixers are pretty well made. Built here in Ontario lol. We tried one out when we had the dairy but we could buy a patz cheaper from the U.S. Feed looks great, cattle look great. Hope the mixer works good for ya. Have a good one.

Howard Younger good deal. I was needing something cheap to blend with the alfalfa. Corn stalks are cheaper but it would be hard to get the cattle to eat much of those and not sort through them. Thanks for watching

Moving up in the world, got ya a TMR mixer. Next thing you know you'll be chopping silage. You did the right thing going with a vertical instead of a reel. At the scale you're at 1 machine that does 2 jobs makes you money. If you are mixing 10 batches a day then processing the hay separately would be faster.

We bought the Jay lor mixer in 2006 and it's been a good mixer. They recommend that we use synthetic oil in the gearbox. We put the grain and minerals in first then the bales chop for half an hour, then corn silage. Takes about 90hp to chop un processed hay. That thing should run for a long time. I can see an ag bag full of corn silage in your future. Lol

massey man I gotcha this takes Synthetic to. I’ll have to try that to process hay faster. How many and what bales are u putting in? Haha if I got to about 80 head I’d probably start mixing every day and use silage

@@jakeziegler599 we chop 2 4x4 hard core round bales with it when we bought it and broke all the bolts off the gearbox on the bottom. Did that twice in about a four year period. Since then we put up silos and that fixed that problem. We put 1400 lbs of haylage in and 2300lbs corn silage 220lbs of ground soybeans 400 lbs of ground corn for the dairy cows

Maybe to avoid having to push the feed back, you could buy a small conveyall elevator to your storage area. You may have to make a hopper for narrower conveyors, but that would be easy. Where did you get the large straw bales?

When I first looked into vertical mixers I was reading on the dairy forums about them and the only brand people complained about was the kuhn knight.
