When you take self-autonomy away from a very elderly person and begin treating them like a child, that's when precipitous decline sets in. Ironically, having to fend for herself, probably kept her spark lit much longer.

Sainsbury's shops have that effect with their self checkout voice (treating their customers like children, I mean). "Goodbye! ☺️" Knew it was having the same damaging effect speaking to me like I were a 5 year old. I speak with everyone I encounter in *exactly* the way I've always wanted to be spoken with... normally.

I expect this crap in the USA, not in England. Except, there is no specialty place and no list to wait on. Poor lady.

70s UK was no central heating, outside toilets and one bath a week for many people.

We'll soon be back to the deprivation and abject poverty of the Victorian era, if us working class don't stop bending over for the establishment.

All those baby boomers talk about how marvelous things were back then. Of course, they're really talking about how wonderful being young was, which is the same in every generation. This woman underlines just how awful that era actually was. Things have completely reversed these days and pensioners own a disproportionate anount of property and wealth in the UK.

That's what I tell people. If you call social services/Doctor/Police, don't tell them you're name is Smith, say it's Mohamed and tell them you were trafficked. You'll be in a 4 * hotel by the end of the day. Tell them your name is Smith and you'll still be in a telephone queue by the end of the day....

The irony is it’s the immigrants that are looking after and taking care of the elderly white English in the care homes because those elders have been abandoned by their children as soon as they got old. Take care of your parents before taking attacking immigrant.

Pensioners nowadays are about the only people in the country who have any money. They certainly own a disproportionate amount of the property and the wealth. I don't know if you're some kind of troll with the "illegal immigrants" comment, or whether you're just an idiot.

Fortunately in my experience as a NHS Paramedic I've never seen this situation in my 10 years. On the odd occasion someone is seen lacking care and assistance, a safeguarding referral usually puts it right quickly, despite what the press say nationally. At least, that's in my part of the country anyway. I like referring to these videos occasionally as it shows that history is often not as good as people remember. A lot of elderly people died of hypothermia in the 1970's and before.
