Reynolds definitely took inspiration from Penny there. No one was doing them like Tom in 1995..

Penny is the GOAT....PERIOD!

Tom purposely walked away from mainstream skating. He could have killed all the contests that came after his departure and made millions but that’s not him.

This is a really cool segment; the filmer's notes and first hand accounts make the footage and clips more enjoyable.

Rad. Tom still has it in there to pull out. Nothing more motivating than being reintroduced to Es I guess. Sometimes, when I think back upon things, I think it’s fucked up when the most talented people get off track and lose focus before the world truly gets a chance to see what they’re fully capable of. What we did see of Tom was truly incredible skateboarding, but with his natural talents, when I think back about it, I sorta feel like we never even saw him get to his greatest level. It feel like we only ever saw Tom warming up before he just sorta disappeared. His warm up in skating was more impactful than some who have fully focused careers. So, you can only imagine what would’ve come out of Tom had he decided to show us show us.

He found this like weightless moment in his momentum and in that second is when he popped, flicked, flipped, and caught everything, before gravity even knew he was there. The closest thing I’ve seen in the decades since is Curren Caples new footy release. That shit blew my mind. I’m putting Curren next to Tom and Carroll now with regard to style. He definitely is taking a page from Tom’s playbook.

Still think the golden era of 90’s and early naughties is yet to be surpassed. We had the greats; Muska, Thomas, Koston, Rowley, Boulala, York, Milton, Penny and of course all the others I have forgotten. Great times.

Wonderful people wonderful meeting and again wonderful Tom.

Tom has definitely achieved enlightenment.

He makes it all look so effortless. Legend.

I tried to emulate Tom Penny back in the late 90's. I was so stoked to land a frontside flip down this seven stair. At that moment with the same kind of beanie hat on, I actually thought I was Tom Penny. I was so happy I landed that trick I Busted out in tears of joy.

man, penny has always had "mirror" hammers /lines in his parts over the years....shit i can't remember the name of that sketchy bank with the chain on top...probably because tom landed just about every trick imaginable reg,swtch,fky,nlly, and pretty much ruined it for everybody else in one session. from how the story gets told it was mostly first try after first try also....anyway, it was guys like tom penny and of course salmon agah-Salmon i think was a huge influence on anyone coming out of that era's idea of what skating switch was supposed to look like and when you first heard people asking "what way does he skate?" after watching an entire part lol.
