I shot and edited this film on 16mm film thanks for giving it new life Train Man Productions. It aired on PBS in January of 1987. Thanks for all the kind words.
The Strasburg Rail Road rules! 😎👍
I don't care how many times I hear those Yankees pronounce it, to me "Reading" will always be pronounced like I'm reading a book, lol.
Most of these lines are longer sad to say here in 2020 and the new Hope and ivyland R/R, it's almost like you need to take out a loan just to take a ride!!!$$$$ very steep pricing + more for parking...
Sad that a couple of these lines are abandoned now.
RIP to Bill Jenkins and Hugo Lochman. Bill was 95 and Hugo was 91 IIRC.
Fireman making far too much smoke. Wastes coal, coats firetubes with soot which somewhat insulates heat from getting to water. Should have me do it.
Thank God that the New Hope & Ivyland (now the NHRR) abandoned the circus train livery shortly after this was filmed, and went with something more prototypical! The 40 is the only steamer that they have that is functional. They only go as far as Lahaska.
I hope that some "tech-savvy" railfan will do an updated version of this video. There are short lines in Kutztown & Auburn, Steam Into History, and others that I can't remember. I believe that one of the best and most underrated) is The Everett Railroad.
That dude is rockn those chops. 😂👍very cool video. I wonder how many of these lines are still running in 2019?
OMG I remember I had this video as a boy. I was lucky enough to have been born in 84, so I grew up behind 425 and Reading 2102. I have not smiled so big or for so long as when I was hoisted into the cab of 2102 and I got the blow that whistle.
Short lines and Pennsylvania my 2 favorite things how could it get better
I LOVE the EBT! Every time I hear
I wonder how many of those people looking at the Big Boy 4012 in frame
Very wonderful,Great history.Nice show!
And how did I miss this video…Barb…and Bill!! ❤️❤️❤️
This Is Great Watching Pennyslvaina Shortlines Featuring Wandermaker Kempton & Southern & Steamtown U.S.A & Pioneer Tunnel Coal Mine Indirusty & Bluemountain & Reading 4-6-2 Pacific's
This was really awesome.
That would suck having #40 breaking down and having to be pulled by a switcher. Part of the reason for going is to experience what it's like riding behind a steam locomotive 🚂. But that Christmas train deal sounds like a lot of fun.
Ashland is fascinating because of the long hill and the Henry Clay monument.
