Sat upon a hill overlooking the spectacular Three Cliffs Bay, Pennard castle is a picturesque place to visit. The castle itself is quite small and little of it has survived. However it marks the beginning of a beautiful walk over the sand dunes that follow and down towards the expansive bay.

---- Short History ----
- Henry de Beaumont conquered the Gower Peninsula in the early 12th century and made Pennard one of his demesne manors. He was earl of Warwick and granted lordship of the Gower.
- Built in the early 12th century as a timber ringwork following the Norman invasion of Wales.
- The Braose family converted it to stone in the 13th and 14th centuries including a gatehouse.
- Eventually, around the end of the 14th century, the sand drew too close and it was abandoned.
- Even in ruin it appeared to be popular, particularly for paintings.
- During the 19th century most of the southern part had collapsed and various cracks were starting to form.
- By 1922 the gold slug which owned the site, the Royal Institution and the Cambrian Archaeological Association, put together a campaign to raise funds for its restoration. However they could only patch up the gate house with concrete.
- In the 1960’s more of the southern wall collapsed and an archaeological survey ensued.
- Urgent repairs were needed which was paid for by various organisations, including a public appeal.
